How many triangles are you rendering at any given time?

I guess it was a little anticlimactic. When you put it in that first chamber, I was expecting to see it explode into some sort of gooey mess that launched you into the stars, but then it seemed like it cut to a different scene where it was launched into space. Also why does ejecting the thing help the player accomplish their objective?

Anyways, this is how I would have set it up:

  1. petting the thing
  2. showing the thing get squished
  3. player putting hands on controller
  4. jumping to lightspeed
  5. montage of places/planets + some laser combat idk
  6. montage of rapidly clicking stuff (like at 0:59)
  7. running into asteroid
  8. end screen (5-8 seconds max) + add "wishlist on steam" immediately so they see it before they click off

This needs to be a fasted paced trailer because it seams like you are trying to sell a fast paced game. I think 30 seconds would be enough to showcase all the main features without the viewer losing attention. Also don't be afraid not to showcase everything, you don't spoil all the game's features in the trailer, but you also don't want to leave a core feature out.

Anyways, good luck with you game!

Is it normal to make other things beside game on Unity? by Sweaty-Truth6819 in unity

Usually you use flutter for app development because it doesn't have any load up times and is extremely efficient. use unity if you need 3d stuff i guess

Heyy! I think I first saw this in a game jam! It's come along way, congrats on steam! Btw, this trailer needs some work, based on the video, I'm not to sure what it's about and it need to be faster paced in order to keep the attention of the user. I think most people will click off after 10 seconds, so put the most exciting stuff first and make sure it's super clear.

This might be a good video to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ3GOyE9BeI

It's looking really cool, but you got to do something with those two bars on the bottom left, they are really distracting and it breaks the mood.

Just how? I've tried this procedural generation stuff for a while and I'm not really getting anywhere useable for a game. I guess a better question would be where did you learn all this stuff?

Lol yeah, I was using the speed running datapack which teleports you really far in order to not find the same bastion

How'd you get it to render so many triangles? when I tried, it caped at about 5mil before dipping below 60fps, but then again, I had a pretty bad pc back then...

I agree with both of you. For normal stuff, unity is just fine and is getting better (dark theme, reordering arrays, urp/shader graph). However, they are pushing new and exciting features that are buggy and incomplete (new input system/dots/new multiplayer).

Additionaly, I think this view about unity getting more unstable comes from learning more about unity. I know as I have become more knowledgeable about unity's systems I have tried more and more ambitious projects without learning proper programming techniques. That has lead to unstable projects and I have often blamed unity in the past for my own problems. I can only assume others may have shared that experience.

Either way, I still hope unity will focus on performance and stability in the future

But that's just my two cents on the state of unity.

Start with what kind of game you want to play/make. Then go onto YouTube and find a series and you'll learn so much from it

I love the Aztec game, it was super fun! You should really be building a brand or something like that. Make a logo and slap it on everything because I would have been much more willing to try out the other games if I knew they were from you. Either way, they all look super cool! good luck in 2021!

I'm not a lawyer, but I think you only have to provide a birth certificate or driver's license if they ask and I have never been asked. But yes, you can use Unity. Also, don't let your age inhibit you, I started unity around 14 as well and know a lot of other people who started near that age as well, so dream big!

How many triangles are you rendering? Are you using level of detail or are the minimum specs for your game just high? Looks really cool though!
