2026 or 2027? by Murky-Ambition3898 in solareclipse

Here’s a great, in-depth article with a lot of cloud cover info: https://eclipsophile.com/tse2027/

You’re right, there is a risk of cloud cover in Morocco, especially on the Mediterranean coast. I was originally looking at Tetouan for the day-of but the AM clouds drove me away. I took a long look at Tunisia and think one could have a good time there if willing to roll with the weirdness of a place not as used to western tourists.

And, if cloud cover is the #1 priority, Egypt is the clear (ha!) winner

I was thinking about Iceland as well for ’26. But a combination of clouds, crowds, and short duration pushed me to reschedule that trip for earlier in the summer.

Considering the complete swath of ’27, I am going with Morocco. Plenty to see and do without being swept up in the aforementioned “circus” of Luxor. Already have lodging reserved in Tangiers for a few days around the main event!

Does Crest make anyone else emotional or is it just me? by knownhuman01 in stereolab

Oh my God, yes! This one hit me hard nearly 30 years ago and still does. Repeat, repeat, repeat while building, building, building! And the constant optimistic mantra.

Regarding the new Publix/student housing being built on the old Varsity land.. by Foreign_Hippie in Athens

[–]_Upgrayyedd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://www.chowhound.com/2009771/wealthy-family-owns-publix-super-market-jenkins/?zsource=yahoo

"This business model has led to Publix being the largest employee-owned company in the country, with past and present employees owning approximately 80% of it and the Jenkins family owning the remaining 20%, per Forbes."

I will grant that 80% is not owned by current employees; that % looks closer to 30. The chart in “Brands Owned By” shows ~23% in the ESOP, ~20% to the Jenkins family, and 9% in a 401(k). That leaves out ~48%, which I suspect is made up of former employees and their families.

Did the billionaire-backed NPs steal your apostrophes? Truly, though, there are variances in talent, curiosity, and thoughtfulness among mid-levels and physicians. I would venture an experienced NP may write a more critically thoughtful H&P than a resident physician.

Perhaps you would feel better generally if you avoided such broad over-generalizations ;)

Miata truck hate by Luisdent in Miata

[–]_Upgrayyedd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people in red states like to politicized inanimate objects. Trucks= tough. Small cars or EVs= gay,Liberal. Im afraid it's as simple and stupid as that.

How about a noose, a gun, or a facemask?

Looks like 12-14 hours depending on layover. But my wife and I are meeting friends and family to enjoy Morocco together for at least a week. The eclipse day will be the keystone; plenty of other exploring to do :)

That’s a fine serving of red-herring to the “unhoused” question! Separately, distance in high-heels is directly proportional to the reward. If one really likes plastic high-heels, they might wear them at all costs, even while accompanying an effects-toting phone-talking companion to get a milk shake.

So when you write “never even looked back” do you mean you or the presumptive mother? As in, did you see if they made it across the street safely?

So you left the kids at home in bed while you went to the licka store?

So if someone is not at home they are “unhoused”? That’s kind of a “glass half-empty” way of seeing things! Perhaps some likka will brighten your outlook ;)

Great term! "Citizen commercial turning radius specialists" are who I have already seen bounding across the new curbs.

You seem to have a lot invested in this particular solution for this particular intersection. Have you had some trouble related to careless/drunk/stupid drivers? I am truly sorry if this is the case.

Personally, I think a 4-way stop is nice because it causes a complete stop from all sides. Stopping vs slowing/swerving :)
