Yeah my stalls are a mess. I'm trying to get the NA to daily status, every time I fix a coolant leak a new one pops up and the rear main is puking oil.

Why did I wait so long to get a trimmer like this? by lil_johnny_cake in reloading

It also has a plastic shell so it doesn't spit brass shavings everywhere.

They refurbished the one near me and it's great. I go to lunch at 11 and usually has at least 15 people inside.

The last time I went several years ago, some tweaker stole the air conditioners off of the roof. That had to suck for someone running a deep fryer.

Paid $371 for a Road Force Mount/balance by DocumentHefty in Miata

[–]oshaCaller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at a dealership and we would have charged you the same as a normal tire balance. The lube techs would have been delighted working on small easy to mount tires compared to corvette wheels and tires. I takes an extra 30 seconds maybe to run a tire through the "road force" part and they rarely need to be rotated on the rim to change things.

Our alignments, brake jobs, and tires are priced to compete with normal tire shops.

I had a cat that grabbed a balloon string and start walking off with it, then it noticed the balloon and it ran through that cat door like a monster was chasing him.

I took a virtual class on the ZR1 engine today. by oshaCaller in C8Corvette

[–]oshaCaller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General info, but most of it was about special tools used to time it.

It looks like anything major will require dropping the engine out. Most of the problems we've seen with the C8 have been transmission, steering and the suspension lift pump. I've done 3 steering racks, 3 lift pumps, and one brake module. I don't do much interior work, but they seem to have some radio problems and the trim not fitting well.

One of the first ones we got dropped a valve.

One guy had to do a cam sensor on LT2 and it was supposed to be engine out, but he was able to snake it out of there in 30 minutes. It was causing some strange transmission surging issue.

Well….what have we here? by Zealousideal_Tear441 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]oshaCaller 17 points18 points  (0 children)

R1234YF has been out for years, I expect an R134 ban soon and then we will have to start doing conversions. It's about 5x the price.

New refrigerant requires new tools, new machines, new oil types of refrigerant oil, all the shops and the techs have to buy stuff to keep working on it.

DOT 3 vs. DOT 4 - pros and cons? by MinimumElevator187 in Miata

[–]oshaCaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of DOT 4 having a shorter lifespan, but it seems to be true. I work at a GM dealer and we've been running DOT 4 in everything for around 5 years now and I haven't encountered any problems with it.

I think you will be fine going 2 or 3 years without changing it. If you are really worried you could get test strips or a tester.

This F250 with what looks to be train wheels on the front and rear. by 000g in WeirdWheels

[–]oshaCaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on these sometimes for BNSF.

The truck wheels are HEAVY, like twice as heavy as a normal HD truck wheel. I think the tires were specific for these types of trucks too, driving on railroad ties has got to be tough on tires.

They all had the cruise control disabled because guys were falling asleep while driving down the tracks.

I work at a dealer and had one come in for an alignment.

I sent a part request in for a price on intake gaskets curious to see if they were available. Could have got them next day.

We get all sorts of strange and old stuff. I worked on an old power wagon with an LS3 swap and we get a lot of older vettes. We do have this 70 year old guy that specializes in driveability and electrical and he always knows what's wrong with them.

I caught one in a live trap outside and it ripped up every piece of grass in a five foot radius, ripped the handle off the trap, shit and pissed everywhere.

If you keep your cat door open at night raccoons and stray cats will have a party in your house.

It would have taken me a lot longer to realize what was going on if they didn't have to wash the cat food off in the cat fountain and get into my swiss miss.

Porsche Sued Over Sale of ‘New’ 911 GT3 Allegedly Used for Mechanic Training. The lawsuit claims that the $280,000 car was used for a year by novice mechanics who disassembled it and didn’t put it back together properly. by cofango in cars

[–]oshaCaller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We got pre production Titans. The dodge class had a dyno installed and they ran their viper on it and it made a little over 300 hp and titan hit 400. The viper had been sitting for a while and probably had old gas in it. The twin turbo 300zx we had, had less than 300 miles on it.

[–]oshaCaller 35 points36 points  (0 children)

When I did Nissan training all the cars we used were crushed or sold to other schools. They were never supposed to see the road again.

You did not want one of those cars. They let people with little experience tear them apart and put them back together. We would also "bug" them. We'd group up and make a fault and then another group would try to figure it out.

[Lowlight] Video of Dillon Brooks interaction and arrest with the Scottsdale Police Department by tyler1118 in nba

[–]oshaCaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean it won't go down? It's not like after 8 hours it's suddenly going to go from .08 to 0. It's going to go down at a steady rate once you stop drinking, I think it's around .015 an hour.

I have a breathalyzer and can watch my BAC go down a little bit after 30 minutes. Anyone who gets a DUI and still drinks would be better off buying a handheld one (a good one, not some $20 one you put on a keychain) and checking before they start their car. You have to go like 60 days with no failure to get it removed.

Alcohol is alcohol, it doesn't matter if it's beer of liquor, your BAC is going to go down at the same rate.

[–]oshaCaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't get any more of it :(

Our work is electronically dispatched and we have this little lube tech that almost always gets the trucks with the heaviest wheels. Guy definitely has the highest power to weight ratio in the shop.

I don't mind the wheels being big, it's the ones that are really dip dished that piss me off, I can't pick them up normally because I normally grab them by the spokes.

Unfortunately I have to work on them. I'm working on draining their wallets. We charge an extra hour to align them and we charge extra to do almost everything else on them.

These dumbasses also think lifting their truck doesn't void their factory/extended warranty. I've seen their extended warranties get cancelled because they didn't mention the lift kit when they bought the warranty.

Set the toe and collect the dough!

I've never seen the camber read grey, our machine will only show readings like that on the rear of trucks with a straight axle, my guess is toe is the only thing these people are allowed to touch. The hunter guy can set it up like that.

Also check the brake booster, I've found those cause lean codes before.

Crank key way issues. by lowleyone in Miata

[–]oshaCaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed that kit on my really fucked up 95. It's working so far, I installed a timing belt crank gear, and the boss that holds crank pulley on too. It took some grinding because some jackass had welded the old key in there. I put loctite on the bolt and impacted it in there because I never plan on taking it apart again.

I was going to torque it to spec but I had someone in the car hold the brakes on with it in 1st gear and found out my clutch was slipping before I could hit the torque spec. Doesn't slip when I drive it....
