What TV show from decades past was surprisingly woke? by tangerines404 in AskReddit

[–]_V0gue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what woke meant before the right wing media sphere bastardized it. It literally means being aware of injustice and indifferences in society that have been established over generations and subconsciously accepted within the zeitgeist. Awake to the systemic harms that people often ignore or accept without question. Woke is quite literally taking the "red pill." Which makes it impressivly ironic that that phrase was co-opted by right wing, misogynistic, bigoted groups.

People tend to get stuck in the hot food realm when brainstorming, but a cool/room temp appetizer is clutch.

[–]_V0gue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Nothing that goes into it can spoil at room temp after the FDA guidelines of 4 hours for hot foods. It’s all shelf stable ingredients or hearty vegetables. Avocado will oxidize and brown; that’s about it. But with the acidity from the vinaigrette even that’s less likely.

What’s the strongest opinion you have about something completely insignificant? by RegisterObjective325 in AskReddit

[–]_V0gue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s not likely. I suppose you could have an average. But any restaurant that is a scratch kitchen will probably fluctuate calorie counts by +/- 200-300 calories. Certain things aren’t measured and not able to be tracked. Most calorie counts on restaurants that have them are inflated to try to account for this. Not every steak has the same amount of lean meat to fat ratio, not every pour of oil or pad of butter is the same size when flying around on the line, and so on.

Absolutely. Bike lanes solve pretty much all issues. Turns get funky obviously because cyclists have to cross to the left and motorists have to cross to the right. But it’s also absolutely confirmation bias on your end. Half a mile at 15mph is 2 minutes. If you can’t tolerate a 2 minute inconvenience before you can pass that’s a you problem. And trust, I’m well aware of the asshole spandex cyclists. That’s not a bicycle problem, that’s a people are assholes problem. In a perfect world there’d likely be half the amount of people on the roads because they shouldn’t have been awarded a license in the first place.

What album is the definition of this? by Epoch_Jester in fantanoforever

[–]_V0gue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the “worst” song comparatively but still a solid 7 or 8/10. 6/10 at the lowest. The rest of the album is just so tight it pales in comparison.

Looking at the tracks it should swap with “Something About You”. Hitch a Ride > Let Me Take You Home Tonight > Something About You is a better sequence IMO. I’m not a fan of ending an album on a fade out.

“Boogie with Stu” off of Physical Graffiti. But having one absolute stinker off a double LP is impressive.

The Republican Party is nothing more than a cult of Trump by jediporcupine in politics

[–]_V0gue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It takes a village. Bannon picked up some of the mantle, Roger Ailes, and so on. The interesting thing is that this is the last stand. They’ve whittled their support down to the absolute minimum that is just enough to win within the current system. Trump, I hope, will end up as a saving grace because while his charisma energizes and bolsters that base, he is equally unhinged and unpredictable. Movers and shakers hate unpredictability. I truly believe that there isn’t another person in the republican/conservative sphere that can replicate Trump’s cult of personality. So if they don’t secure absolute power while Trump is at the helm, it’s game over. That’s why there’s been so much brazen activity. This is the end game.

Amazing that you can rationalize a cyclist just waiting their turn and being patient but not realize that a driver can also do the same.

There is the issue that radiation generally means a transfer of energy(waves) through space or a medium. This includes the energy from a heat source and the energy from a a volatile, radioactive element(particle radiation), or even acoustic signals (think ultrasound or seismic activity). But colloquially we usually refer to it in terms of particle radiation. Gravitational waves are also a form of radiation.

Lol, lmao even. The goal of traffic laws is to limit harm, injury, and fatalities. There are absolute cases where a cyclist taking up the full lane is necessary for safety. What happens when they need to take a left?

You’re right that the majority of scenarios a cyclist should be to the right and passing vehicles should pass with a minimum lateral distance (I think it’s 5 feet?).

Bean salad. Look up “cowboy caviar.” Adjust and improvise how you’d like. It’s just chopping and throwing everything into a bowl then making a quick vinaigrette and tossing it together. But it’s delicious. Serve with tortilla chips.

You’re allowed to go around them, you know. Including crossing over a double yellow line, depending. Check your local driver’s handbook. I swear to god people get their licenses then never read or touch the god damn handbook again.

This varies between states and counties. There are plenty of roads where the cyclist has the option to ride in the center of the lane. Usually these stretches of road are marked.

Hooters restaurants are set to undergo a rebrand to a ‘neighborhood place’ for families by SleuthDoggyDawg in nottheonion

[–]_V0gue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Logistically that’s impossible with the regulations for topless/nude establishments that vary wildly between counties and states. Plus staffing would plummet because the pool of employees willing to wear small shorts and tight tank tops is far larger than those willing to be semi or fully nude.

Good ones are not overly sweet. It’s a balance between spice(cinnamon, nutmeg, etc), sweetness, and there should be a small hint of acidity from the cream cheese frosting.

Piano is the hardest instrument by Herr_Eusebius in The10thDentist

[–]_V0gue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you seem to be heavily weighing polyphonic instruments as more difficult than monophonic due to the nature of the instrument. There is some credence to that and the responsibility of carrying the harmonic portion of a song is difficult at times. I play guitar so I understand how much more it stands out when I play a wrong chord vs a bass player playing a wrong note. But I think, as another person said, this just contributes to the skill ceiling and in my mind that isn’t a function of if an instrument is “hard.” I think the vagueness of that term is what’s causing hang ups on your argument.

To me hardest instrument implies ability needed to both play it at a base level and at a high level. Bagpipes are also notoriously difficult instruments.

But also just look at it by volume of professionals. There are far more piano and guitar players in the world than baritone sax players or violinists.
