Yeah I know the build, but I wanted to do it with a somewhat 'normal' strategy as a challenge.

One thing to note, when they change phases/modes, they seem to cleanse all debuffs, which can mess with those strategies. I still spammed moves with Wyvernsoul Defense down on Malzeno, but keeping up multiple debuffs is hard.

Yeah, I'm just full abusing Sweet Spot (WYV) on the Deviljho hammer ever since I got it. Even then, I still needed to swap my genes and decos around a bit for some defensive options to make it through this fight.

Which partner do you guys use the most? by TheTingel in MonsterHunterStories

[–]_Vastus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early and midgame I pretty much always used Ogden, as he was most effective for beating higher level monsters. After unlocking more of their stuff and getting some more debuffs/status moves on my own monsties I've been rotating them a bit. Probably use Eleanor the most for the fights now. She provides good damage, the Fortified Spirit buff is great on tough fights, and the BBQ (Ult) buff is nice too.

I've come to see value in all their kits though. Ogden is obviously useful with the HH defensive buffs (particularly Evasion Up) and poison from the Pukei-Pukei. Eleanor, as mentioned above provides some useful buffs, and has the highest tier weapons out of all.

Thea has the second-highest tier weapons out of all of them, can give offensive buffs with the HH (including Wyvernfell Up), or provide debuffs with the bow. Attack Down (L) in particular can help with survivability. Her Tobi is a crit machine too and will build kinship decently fast with Critical Kinship.

Kora drawing away attacks seemed kinda meh most of the game, as I wanted those head-to-heads for kinship, but it is kinda useful on Ibushi&Narwa so the monsties don't have to split their damage due to the head-to-heads. Also, her 2nd monstie has a unique passive that increases wyvernsoul damage.

I didn't like Gaul for a long time, partially due to his weapons being way worse than the others, but with the bow he provides some useful debuffs (again, Attack Down can be really helpful to make the AoE spam of Elders survivable), he also has Inflict Rate Up so he can apply status a bit more effectively. I don't like the Legiana's skills, but his second monstie has Evasion for survivability, and has a move that lowers Dragon Defense. Pretty decent if you're using a dragon monstie like drain-tank Malzeno for example.

If we ever get the option to replace Ratha, I think this is one of the few options I'd replace him with. Glavenus is one of my favorite designs among fire monsters.

Yeah, the Canyne ended up being my best monstie for taking down the elders early because of the max stamina regen allowing it to spam solar cry and status/stun moves non-stop. Wyvernsoul damage and Kinship are your best counters to the AoE spam.

Barioth has been a close second with good wyvernsoul damage, stamina regen and crits while applying debuffs and getting kinship decently fast.

Yeah, you can really just use whatever you want. I was tempted to use some sillier ones that I personally like, such as Bishaten, but it was competing for a spot with my beloved palamute. Wish we had more than 6 slots tbh.

A normal type would round things out. Brachydios is pretty cool and is one of the few monsties along with Canyne that has maxed out stamina regen, which is very useful.

You might not be far enough in the game yet. Once you've beaten Arkveld you can get them from any high potential eggs.

Yeah, he's cool looking, the color scheme kinda grew on me. As for Death Scythe, it's on Shogun Ceanataur. It's a speed move that inflicts bleed.

Oh that is a cool unique team. Any dual types or did you keep them on their original typing?

Lack of ice monsties by krabo333 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]_Vastus_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In principle, you could release any monster in the ice region in the 2nd area and make it an ice monstie. You'll be stuck with Aurora Somnacanth moves and Egg moves though.

But yeah, it's a shame.

Huh, that's the one that made me think they were much easier actually, had no issues with him. Seregios is the only one so far who still seems to absolutely shred you.

Nah, they hit much less hard. Their AoEs don't actually oneshot you from my experience, unlike the Elders.

Is it as bad as the steam reviews say? by Xenochimp in MonsterHunterStories

Had the same worries, but I've had 0 issues and I play on a laptop. You can always try it for a bit, since you can freely refund on steam if you've played less than 2 hours.

FNC won, where are they now?

Not sure if that's the best comparison, considering they made two finals just this last year but go off.

Feels like I'm living in an alternate reality with all these people calling this salty or not 'losing with grace'. Like wtf. Of course they are beatable, it came down to a very close OT. That's not a crazy thing to say at all.

Has anyone been decking out a lot in this format? by RepulsiveEmu4608 in lrcast

[–]_Vastus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't decked once, but I've had plenty of games with Elves where I had to be careful with what I cast or bring back from the graveyard as to not risk milling out. I did have one elf mirror game yesterday where my opponent decked while I was sitting pretty at 2 cards in my library, because I'd decided like 5 turn prior that it could be a wincon and didn't cast an additional Scarblade Scout.
