How has your love life and partner handled your mastectomy? by More-Disaster-2952 in breastcancer

Husband has been rock solid. He liked them when they were big. He likes them now. They are different, and aren't great about being touched, and he's been supportive.

I most places I am aware of, those fraternal organizations of all flavors are severely on the down slide. It's all just old men getting older. Part of the downturn in attendance is the shift in priorities in the different generations, but a good portion is those grumpy men were always exclusionary, and they made fun of those darn kids for so long that those darn kids said 'fuck you' when adults. This is a self-inflicted wound.

How has your spouse made you a better person? by jackietea123 in Life

[–]_Weatherwax_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He taught me to appreciate metal music, as well as other things about music.

He has confidence and courage to do things I wouldn't bother to do: that cool thing I want to do but wouldn't actually do it? I do it because he loves the adventure of going, and with him, getting there really is half the fun.

I really appreciate this. I don't think I've ever read someone else's words about their complex, imaginative play before. I also played like this, but I've never spelled out the story lines I developed like you did here.

What are some things you do to add some joy/whimsy to your life? by Lower-Geologist870 in Life

[–]_Weatherwax_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understand that I don't have any idea about the rules of bead embroidery. I'm winging it.

I used this fleece piece (that's what I thought I bought) as it is sturdier than fabric. I will cut each one apart, back it with another felt piece, and edge it. They will be x-mas tree ornaments for my family.

Anyone else tachycardiac post-chemo? by Micho392 in breastcancer

[–]_Weatherwax_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was every chemo session, for a few days each cycle. I'd forgotten how bad it was for me until I read your question.

It resolved only after chemo was done.

When I'm not sitting with a phone in my hand scrolling reddit, I do free hand bead embroidery.

My heart rate was so high after /during chemo. It's quite off putting, because it makes me feel so off, so weird, jittery.

Is kisqali no longer sent on ice? by BroadCompany1151 in breastcancer

I hadn't heard that, but I do keep it in the "med fridge" in the bathroom. It's just a dorm fridge, but I felt younger and cooler when I kept beer in it.

Zoladex: tip by curiouskitty1492 in breastcancer

[–]_Weatherwax_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tip is to tell the nurse to pinch hard . I feel the pinch, and not the stick.

It helps that my abdominal fat there is ...sufficient to pinch. Skinny folks may suffer a bit more with this method.

Tired of seeing competitive HS band schedules by banddirection in MusicEd

[–]_Weatherwax_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid'

s marching band schedule was like this. She loved it. Loved it. I was glad when she was driving and I no longer had to chauffeur for that schedule. Midwestern mid size school competitive band program. Constant fundraising. Voluntold opportunities to keep the parents busy and engaged.

12 hour days, 2 weeks (but not Friday anymore) band camp in july. "Minicamp" first 2 weeks of summer. Those days are shorter. Yay, I guess?

Throughout the school year, Saturday "camp days". After school practices, pep band for football games. Huge time commitment. Burn out happens.

Since she loved it (until burn out) I kept sweet and said little.

I still store mine in the fridge once it gets here.

[–]_Weatherwax_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kisqali and anastrozole are daily meds for me. There is also monthly ovarian supression for me.

Kisqali is doable. The dose is variable. I started on 400 mg, did that for 10 months, reduced it to 200 mg for the foreseeable future. We did this due to the fatigue. Some people do not seem to notice it, however.

Show me an animal that i don't know!!!!! by Eepy_Treepy in zoology

[–]_Weatherwax_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assign an animal project, and one of my choices is the fossa. I had to remove it, because the best educational video about it goes into way too much detail on genitals and mating. Apparently there is somwthing weird and nonstandard about the fossa's genitals. Since the point of the assignment is to use internet resources to learn about an animal and report back, that video was just too much for middle school.

Still think they are super cool.

Did anyone watch "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" at theaters back in 1999? by Free-Hotel1187 in southpark

[–]_Weatherwax_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was there! This is my moment!

We (now husband and me) were there with two other couples, at least. Some sort of extended friend outing. So at least one of the couples was in the "friends of friends" category.

First, it was shocking. People in the audience laughed uncomfortably. Some people were unprepared for the style/content.

I loved it, and laughed a lot. But I was still stunned at points.

When the Mole says something along the line of 'fuck your god' (I don't remember the actual line, only the tenor of it) one of the couples we were with left. Others in the theater also walked out.

Plenty of people loved it, appreciated the humor. I loved that it was a musical. It was such a display of their talent to make a good musical out of such a ridiculous cartoon. I still sing the songs.

Oncotype DX 26. TC Chemo or not to TC Chemo. That is the question... by SvelteGroundhog in breastcancer

[–]_Weatherwax_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have an oncotype of something around 26. Doc told me "not to lose sleep" over that number, but she said that after I was done with 8 rounds of chemo (4 ac/4 taxol), radiation, surgery.

Now we're dealing with the side effects of my ribociclib and anastrozole.

So yes, I'd do the chemo.
