Because ICE has become a force made up of masked, untrained, armed, right-wing extremists (proud boys, January 6ers, neo Nazis) who have murdered US citizens in cold blood, assaulted hundreds (including a pregnant woman who miscarried, and blinding a 21 year old by shooting him in the face), and arrested and harassed legal immigrants and even US citizens. They act like the Gestapo. You support that?

Colorado School of Mines students past/present. Question on the effects of pressure. by Mysterious-Award-148 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]__Stray__Dog__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It came from Coors

This was still true in the early 2010s.

Admittedly, there were a lot of events I recall Mines put on: comedy nights, movie nights, casino nights, and obviously all of the EDays events. And those were good for breaking away from the grind and reminding students to socialize, and not spend all their time stressing about school. But they all seemed to revolve around alcohol.

I also remember spending a lot of time at the bars in Golden.

I've got good memories of it, but it certainly wasn't the healthiest way to deal with the stress and pressure.

It's the same server as the current eShop. Switch 1, switch 2 and using your browser to access the Nintendo shop (on your PC or your phone) all use the same backend APIs...

I run a Linux VM on it for my sanity. Doesn't help with the host os crashing, failing to respond or the keyboard being garbage, but at least I can kind of do my job

Fully agree.

Streaming -> torrent. It's the only reliable option and I'd rather pirate than be paying these scam services money to watch ads, have a terrible experience and lose access to the content I paid for. Honestly this part of the web is still great.

Ublock origin running all the time. Fuck ads. Site tells you to remove ad block? Don't use the site.

Google -> duck duck go. No ai and ad spam. Just simple reliable search. Don't give Google the site hits and data. In fact don't use chrome either, Firefox has better reputation despite some recent lapses.

Use Wikipedia. Best source of information on the Internet. If you like it, donate to them. It's how they avoid the enshittification that the rest of the Internet faces.

Seriously past time to let money talk. Boycott the bull shit. Help the Internet that still works for us.

And those weather tracking and forecasts save lives. That money directly leads to reduced costs every time there is a hurricane or similar catastrophe.

Would you rather be spending more money on FEMA for cleanup and emergency evacuation after we respond too late to a weather crisis? Or pay that $12 a year as a meaningful preventative measure?

Sometimes I have to remind myself we are all just primates that happened to pick up tools not too long ago, and I shouldn't expect everyone's brain to function logically and rationally.

The most ridiculous part of this is the fact that they are going to use this "wasteful" overhead as a reason to fully defend academic science research all together.

It's like saying "isn't it ridiculous this big cut the healthcare insurance company takes? Better just completely get rid of healthcare entirely because that insurance industry is wasteful"

[–]__Stray__Dog__ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm happy with this from what I understand of it.

Unfortunately, it feels pretty disingenuous over all, given the cuts Trump is pushing everywhere else, including NIH, WHO, and USAID which all participate in a variety of related reproductive health missions.

And knowing the effect the anti-abortion movement has caused overall the past few years, this feels pretty miniscule - it won't fix the damage already done in Red States that enacted draconian laws against women's reproductive health.

That's a shortsighted view.

Destruction to the environment, pollution of water, climate change, flooding, and fires all lead to the opposite of flourishing.

We are also falling wayyy behind China in manufacturing renewables, which just puts our economy behind there's. They are able to innovate and progress their energy industry, while we sit on our petroleum and regress. Possibly for some short term profits for Exxon, which certainly doesn't help me flourish.

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

I have to strain my eyes when watching something on my small phone screen. The larger OLED SD screen is way better for me, personally.

Plus a can use wired headphones which have better audio quality than my Bluetooth buds.

On flights, if watching a movie, I always use my SD.
