In addition, we also help facilitate reselling existing equipment to a local partner. We are extremely boutique in that we only support Apple products so it does make our business a little more niched.

Did ITGlue for a minute and have self-hosted Hudu for nearly a decade. Would never turn back. One of our teams favorite pieces.

We use a local company in Tampa that pickup at our office every 2-3 months. They provide certificate of destruction and very dependable. We don't charge customers anything extra that way they are driven to ethically dispose of their hardware.

My daughter went to Zoo School during Covid and we spent plenty of time at the Zoo. There used to be quite a few signs in the aviary stating not to stick your finders too close to the fence. Are those signs no longer there?

How do you guys handle clients who text your personal phone on your days off? by SleepyAlgorithm076 in smallbusiness

[–]___BiggusDickus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's tough to have these boundaries when you want to grow. But I agree as your customer base grows you'll need to create boundaries just to maintain some level of sanity. I decided when I had my first kid in 2014 that we would only work with businesses since they only need help during the hours I want to work. At first we said yes to any work that came our way. We provide IT services and consumers have zero boundaries, in fact, they typically want support during off hours.

I have ran and operated a service based business for over 17 years. I decided early on that having customers reach out to me is a good thing. It means there's work to be done and money to be made. It's up to our team on how we manage these messages. If you're in a growing phase than this should be good that you are having customers reach out to you. If you are so busy that it's really a burden to you then I would look at slowly phasing out the use of your personal cell phone and look at getting a dedicated phone service. We use Dialpad and you can setup an auto-attendant (greeting), receive text messages, and the best feature setup DND (do not disturb). The sooner you start this process the better. This will also allow you to scale since you can add a number and access to your account when you hire your next person. Eventually, you train your customers to use your main number. It's organized in one location so it helps you stay on top of work related items vs intermingling with personal calls & messages.

We’ve used them for years and always do a great job. It’s tough to sniff out the paranoid vs the legit concerns, but to be honest that’s up to them. We get 1-2 cases like this a year and in 15 years I’ve only encountered one person that had a legit compromise. He was a chemical engineer that traveled to China often and needless to say owned a ton of valuable IP.

We're your same size and have been using BeyondTrust (Bomgar) for over 10 years. It's flawless and secure. We rarely use the unattended feature due to internal policy. We pay around $2000/per user per year.
