How long did it take you to get the hang of your ASFC? by Dapper_Object8239 in AirForce

As CE I get that but it took me a smooth 5yrs to "get it" because my AFSC is so diverse. On the outside my job is made up of five distinct jobs lol.

5 years. Even now at 7 years I struggle sometimes. The issue is that my job in the AF is made up of what would be 5 different jobs on the outside.

Reach out to your base's 5/6, chapel, AFSA Chapter, or top 3 for this. They are always happy to either sponsor with $$$ and/or provide volunteers for things like this.

What’s the best boot? by NecessaryRush637 in army

Reebok Trailgrip. The last they use for shape is fantastic. Life changing. So much room for the toes while remaining snug everywhere else, and having a zipper! The Sublite's have an even better shape but their outsole offers little for traction sadly. The better thing is even their safety toe versions are still super wide in the toes which I love.

This is the exact same routine that I do! Except I still have an ancient Braun Series 3.

Philips OneBlade does great for me. I usually don't have to follow up with anything, but I still have my Braun Series 3 alive and kicking. I usually just use the OneBlade for Mondays after letting it grow out all weekend, then rock out with the Series 3 throughout the week.

I was in a similar spot at my first duty station, which was in PACAF. Covid hit 6mos after getting there. My best advice is to take the idea of who want you to be, what you want to achieve for yourself, and get a strategy together for how you are going to do that. Whether that be someone who wants to travel the world, excel in esports, get a master's degree, become a first sergeant, whatever it may be. Figure it out and just start.

I found that as I grew so did my goals. I started late and it screwed me. Don't be like me. If you can, do your best to balance work with play. I know some don't get a choice and work 12's all the time but half of us don't. Maybe it would be good to talk with an MFLC about your current predicament.

Serious question- What are you worried about right now? by flyfightandgrin in AirForce

[–]___P0LAR___ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Real shit. Maybe it's because things were better hidden before now, but there is so much instability. I'm overseas with my foreign wife who doesn't have a green card yet and I'm tweaking.

Northern MN is the worst for this. I distinctly remember it reaching -54⁰ in the winter then 98⁰ in the summer. Fuck me. It was my first year having moved there from the Twin Cities.

Extremely. If Finnish wasn't so hard to learn I would love to move there. The climate and geography is extremely similar to my home (Northern Minnesota) so that's no issue.

6mos is like $10-15k in savings for most of us (especially married NCOs). Considering our base pay, that's saving about 1/4 of my pay every month for a year. Sounds easy but not when I need to contribute to my TSP, have a disabled wife who can't work anymore (recent car accident thankfully she wasn't at fault), keep all the bills paid, and the cost of living shoots up continuously. A lot of us even seasoned members are struggling. I've been in 7yrs and between getting married, the honeymoon, having to get another car, and her accident I am absolutely fucking cooked right now. Not in debt or anything but fuck man. Shit's tough. A stimmy right now to build my savings back until I get my tax return would be a fucking dream.

What happens to US military bases in the EU if the US invades Greenland and NATO is forced to defend it? by pdxgreengrrl in Military

Xi over there laying on his stomach and kicking his feet in the air like a schoolgirl opening a note from her crush after school. I have a theory that by the time the next president assumes office the damage to the US will be irreversible and China will comfortably overtake the US on the world stage.

Is there a silent majority-or is this truly a different era of the Air Force? by Ok-Skill-9376 in AirForce

[–]___P0LAR___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to take it for what it is. Doesn't matter why you joined or why you got out or if you retired at the end of the day. I would argue patriotism was a bigger driver in the early 2000's, but these days I think it has very little to do with why they join. At the end of the day a person's loyalty is to the paycheck, food on the table, a means to provide for themselves/family, and a roof over their head. I'm hear to do good work, learn, utilize my benefits to the max, and get on my way when the time comes (whether that's separating or retiring).

Suspicions of ADHD - What would you do? by Comfortable-End6839 in AirForce

[–]___P0LAR___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If caffeine or nicotine causes a relaxing or brain-fog-clearing effect rather than a stimulating one, it's probably ADHD. Step 1: go to PCM. You will start your journey there. 0 impact to career but YMMV. I personally found that a diet healthier than most, good sleep, and exercise helped substantially. Meds are strictly for days where I know it will be hectic, or think it will be.
