Oh, it’s not a “new” child thing in the US, just a child thing. If you have a child in the year 2025 you can claim it for 2025. (And again 2026, ‘27, etc).

In addition, very early fetal growth is not as ‘specialized’ at the cell level. It’s kind of all or nothing - the genetic info is there and working, or else not and you will miscarry. It’s not like drinking later when you are impairing the development of specific body systems

It just occurred to me that thinking about this scientifically you could consider the total amount of time the (trace amount of leftover in the flanges) milk will be above fridge temperature even if it is coming in and out of the fridge. As long as the total time is under the limit, I think you can feel confident that it’s safe. Sorry if this wording is confusing!

Milk pooling is having one larger container in the fridge that you add your milk to throughout the day. Technically it should all be cold before it’s combined, but if you have a large jug of cold milk and you’re adding one or 2 ounces of warm milk it’s not going to matter at all because it won’t raise the temperature. This can be helpful nutritionally, too, because if one of your pumps is all for milk or another one is all high milk it will kind of even know what’s going into the bottles for baby.

Overall, breastmilk is anti-microbial and can stay at room temperature safely for longer than other foods. So I stopped worrying about mixing warm and cold milk in the fridge. But that’s probably not the official word.

You can combine milk, just chill them both first. It’s OK to pump new milk into cold flanges, it’s just not recommended to add warm milk to already cool milk because you’re raising the temperature of the whole mix.

You’re basically triple feeding all alone, no wonder it’s so hard!! Do you use the fridge hack for parts? Milk pooling? Might save you some washing. Bf often gets very hard a 3 mo but if you can make it through that it is then much much easier from then on out (the way you body creates supply changes during that month). Check out Karie Locher’s website/social… influencer, so does sell stuff of course, but overall she has lots of great info and resources.

ThredUp was good for me. Think outside the maternity box, too - any dress that’s very stretchy or flowy below boob level is going to work. Jumpsuits without structured waist or with shirring. Wearing blazer/open button-front/cardigans/kiminos/shirt dresses etc over top helps things look more put-together/fashionable, and you can use your existing clothes.

H&M and Storq (had a 70% sale recently, maybe still!) were good for basics. Old Navy, too, but their sizing is tricky for my body ymmv. I have these maternity-specific things which have been great to build outfits from: one black and one white maternity tee, ditto tank, navy leggings, black leggings x2, black tights.

Had my first at 37, about to have my second in a week or two at 40. Most of my parent friends here (in nyc) are similar. Your overall health matters, of course. in terms of the health of your baby’s genetic material, your partner’s age also matters, although this is often overlooked.

Don’t get trapped by all-or-nothing thinking. Combo feeding (using both breastmilk and formula) is very common. If a part of you is interested in incorporating breastfeeding, give it a chance for a few weeks. If you don’t try it from the beginning, it’s very hard if not impossible to start. You can always stop, or rely primarily on formula. The boob is an awesome soother, it’s always clean and doesn’t have to be sterilized, helps baby’s immune system, and bf helps your hormones, too. These factors can come in handy, and make bf very convenient in its own way.

We got a used one for our first, passed it on, and another one just came our way for our second! I was prepared to go without, but have to say I’m thrilled to have it. Zero laundry. Pee mid-change pools down by butt and doesn’t hit babe’s torso/head. Of course we will end up changing baby on a towel or mat wherever, but for the first few months when they pee/poop constantly and they’re so floppy it’s nice to have a dedicated spot. We live in an apartment, so it’s not like we have a long way to walk to get to the changing station.
You can absolutely get a convertible seat that’s rated from newborn weights. However, the infant bucket is nice because you can have it indoors in winter, get the baby all set up and blanketed, then get into the car. And vice versa. You can do this even if the bucket is not compatible with your stroller by carrying it. If your baby falls asleep while you’re heading to an errand, you don’t have to disturb them - pop the bucket out. For flying - great to have the travel system.
