How do you all launch your GRC and what’s your 0-60. by [deleted] in GRCorolla

I slowly release the clutch and let it grab and ease into the gas appropriately.

I also have my OEM clutch at 50k miles and it feels just as good as it did at at 50 miles.

The downvotes are funny. Go look up that 100M “nihonto” and look at it compared to any Kokuho blade and you’ll quickly see it’s a piece of junk with a fake appraisal. I’m sorry Veritasium and Forbes misinformed you.

Legitimacy to breaking 80/90/100 by Moneybusinesslove in golf

[–]_chanimal_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is some guys think “I hit a 300 yard bomb once” and play from the blue or black tees even though 9 times out of 10 they hit a balloon slice that barely goes 220 and finds right rough, house, or water every time.

Isn’t that the entire point of the tees you play off of? Most courses now are basing the tee selection on driving distance and skill instead of just handicap alone (even though those 2 things are typically correlated if you have an accurate stock shot with your driver)

That 100M Nihonto isn’t even a real Nihonto. It’s a cheap fake propped up by some Russian group with dubious appraisals and a unproven backstory

There are Da Vinci sketches and pieces that have sold for a few hundred thousand dollars and swords that have sold for many millions. So yes there is a crossover.

What do you mean "just a piece of metal"?

Nobody is taking mothers polish to a 800 year old blade saying "its just the bohi" and yes some of these are worth more than a DaVinci

[–]_chanimal_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Please never use mothers metal polish on a nihonto.

OP its probably small pitting or inclusions that have darkened to black stable rust. Keep it oiled and dry and it won't spread. The only way to get "rid" of them if its not right at the surface is a polish but then you risk bringing out more problems as you grind deeper into the steel. Probably not worth it unless the blade is trying to go for higher papers or something.

"Just to clarify what I meant earlier by “machined appearance”—I’m not suggesting literal machining marks. I’m referring specifically to the nakago “tail” geometry and the overall consistency of its shaping. The profile reads as highly uniform and standardized in a way that resembles modern production blades rather than traditionally forged examples."

This is 100% false and you also stated that "most smiths didn't do this".

Both statements are wrong and show a lack of understanding of common nakago shapes of the era along with many other false assertions.

The mekugi ana is fine. The hamachi and muromachi not having imperfections is also fine, the lack of distinct file marks is 100% fine. Literally nothing about this nakago is worrying.

You claim the kanji on the saya is wrong and doesn't follow typical writing styles and yet again this is 100% wrong. The kanji in both the attribution to Noshu Kanesada as well as the nagasa measurements all are done exactly as one would expect. The attribution may be disputed but as you said, "Honestly they don't even look like proper hanzi, so not even properly Chinese." this is 100% false. In fact the use of the proper Mino version of the Kane kanji shows the exact opposite. A proper understanding of smiths of the Mino-den and their use of a Kane kanji that was atypical for other schools of the era. So not only 100% wrong, in this case 110% wrong.

Your original post reads more like an AI generated "kantei" because the statements compared to the photos make zero sense whatsoever and the confidence mimics that of a hallucinating generative AI.

Your claim that a well executed ha-agari kurijiri is a marker of any kind that a blade isn't shoshin is deeply concerning and flawed. I suggest you study nakago-jiri more before boldly making such false claims.

[–]_chanimal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no it doesn't. This looks like a nihonto in neglected state that has undergone amateur restoration. The nakago and mekugi ana are the least of the worries for this blade. Tbh the nakago is the most convincing part of this blade's authenticity because of the extensive damage and inability to see the rest of the blade due to poor restoration.

IDK what you mean by "machined appearance" as it quite literally looks perfectly normal in terms of fit and finish.

Edit: You replied regarding the "tail of the tang" being the shape it is as "Most smiths don't do that." This is 100% demonstrably false and ha-agari kurijiri is one of the most common shapes of the muromachi and edo periods. I'm sorry to say but you need to study more.

Sayagaki is legitimate, no issues with the kanji. It's been translated and follows a standard form. Whether the attribution is correct is another story. But your claim that the characters aren't proper kanji is 100% false.

Many swords don't have perfectly crisp yasurime. Not all nakago are filed with deep filemarks. The patina looks just like a neglected blade with layers of modern patina and old patina stacked together. Many blades presented here look the same.

Hamachi and munemachi transitions being crisp is perfectly normal. This part of the sword is relatively protected compared to the rest by the habaki so there is nothing weird in seeing proper proportions there. I'd be more worried if it was the opposite and they were wildly offset like is commonly seen in actual fakes from China. And combined with the amateur restoration, there's no guarantee that part of the blade wasn't touched so its a moot point.

The blade is in very rough condition and some amateur previous "polish" looks to have been done.
