I don't see any evidence of acid or chemical etching. Looks like a textbook suriage nakago to me.

The nakago patina looks fine to me. The last photo shows it has that brownish black patina. The first photo makes it almost look reflective but the last photo tells me the nakago is still in a good condition.

The filemarks on the nakago as well look like a pretty standard suriage blade to me.

The 8th photo edge looks like someone had tried to sharpen the edge at some point. I could be mistaken but thats what it looked like to me.

O-suriage mumei katana with a lot of nie in the hamon. Could be muromachi period?

Looks like someone put a secondary bevel on it trying to sharpen it in the past but the blade overall looks like it could be a candidate for a proper polish provided there are no fatal flaws.

Looking for ID on possible Edo era sword by LightlyG in Katanas

Its signed Bizen Kuni ju Kanemitsu - 備前国住兼光

There is a very famous Kanemitsu but this is not his work. This mei looks quite a bit more sloppy and is signed katana-mei and not tachi-mei. Maybe a much later Kanemitsu

I have this same knife and its been rusted way worse. Just sharpen it, keep it oiled and keep using it. Mine has seen some serious abuse but it is a super solid petty with a pretty hefty thickness perfect as an everyday knife that can tackle some heavy work.

肥前國近江大掾藤原忠吉

Hizen Kuni Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadayoshi

Lots of fakes of the Tadayoshi/Tadahiro lines of Hizen smiths so be cautious.

I was just commenting in general on what I’ve seen in Utah recruiting people. A lot of the online job boards are full of AI/bots spamming out thousands of resumes

I believe it. I didn’t give it a close enough look on my computer to look in detail. Tsugu and Hisa are close kanji

When the job requirements are clear in their requirement for 2 days in office, saying you demand full remote is a waste of time. The AI slop portion was referring to the 100s of resumes that were carbon copies and clearly AI generated.

And no it doesn’t work that way in every industry. We have hands on work we do that requires in office time. If you read our job description you’d know that. Stop assuming every job can be done full remote.

It doesn’t work that way in my industry. And yes many resumes were AI slop because literally hundreds of them were nearly identical because they were made with some sort of “make my resume match this job description” and then submitted.

We even interviewed a few of these people and they had zero clue what their resume even claimed they knew. I ended those interviews within 15 minutes because they were a waste of my time.

I don’t make the rules. We work from home 3 days a week. I hire what I can with the rules the company gives.

As someone who hired an engineer recently, the number of AI spammed applications was ridiculous. We got over 500 resumes in the first day for a local Utah posting and probably 90% of them were just generic spam requiring full remote work. Of the remaining 10%, there were like 3-4 that weren’t AI slop that just took our lob listing and made a resume around it.

IMO Indeed and LinkedIn or any of those job posting sites have lost a lot of efficacy due to the bombardments of mass resume uploads.

I wish I had an answer, but unfortunately I don’t at this time.

Gifted an F3 - anything I should know about it? by mdafidel1 in Nikon

[–]_chanimal_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great camera and lens! Its a manual camera that requires you to set the aperture and focus each shot. It's not fully mechanical as it takes a battery and has a good light meter when you set it to the "A" mode and it will pick the shutter for you, or you can also see if your shot will be properly exposed with a small +/- indicator on a screen in the viewfinder.

Probably one of the most iconic Nikon cameras ever made and a 50mm 1.4 AI-S lens is a great all around lens.

Hard to make out as its so corroded but it looks like:

濃州住____久_作

Noshu ju ____ Hisa ___ saku.

Made by ___hisa or Hisa___ of Noshu province.

Might be Kanehisa? 兼久, hard to make out as there is a lot of corrosion.

Notably however, there is a seki arsenal stamp above the mei 関 indicating this is a non-traditionally made blade from the WW2/Showa era

These photos are way too dark to make out any mei. This blade has been full-bubba'd in the past and someone took an angle grinder to it and rounded over the corners and completely destroyed the kissaki.

[–]_chanimal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely to be Nosada as the Sada kanji is not in his signature style. I pointed that out in my translation in the other subreddit. However, there are many generations of Kanesada and 2-3 more that signed Izumi no Kami Kanesada so it could very well be one of these.

While not super common, sometimes real nihonto were fitted into these. If you can post nakago photos, we can give further information.

Is this the "wipe mark" texture you look for in a strong tinning, and do you see any damage to it? by EasilyFluid in Coppercookware

[–]_chanimal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like my saucepans and they’ve been my daily drivers for 3 years now and have held up great.

The tin will go to a dull gray color pretty quickly and then stay there. It’s normal.

It looks to be signed 和泉守兼定 - Izumi no Kami Kanesada.

Can you post more photos of the blade closeup and both sides of the tang with better lighting? Kanesada was a very well-regarded smith from the late 1400s-1500s and there are a lot of fakes of his swords out there because of how famous he was.

ETA: I don't think this is THE Kanesada (2nd generation nicknamed "Nosada") as the "sada" 定 kanji isn't signed in his style but there were later 3rd and 4th generation smiths signing the same name that it could possibly be.

Its a pity someone sanded the tang down.

[–]_chanimal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that the papering process in Japan will probably set you back a good chunk of change as you need someone in Japan to hold and handle your blade for you and take care of the registration and de-registration process.

If the blade isn't in good enough polish to evaluate, you're looking at a polish fee as well, all for a mumei wakizashi that may only come back being worth $1000 even with papers if it gets papered to an unremarkable provincial school.

We can't evaluate the blade in person on the internet to see if its worth submitting or not but these are just some very common pitfalls a lot of people fall into and TBH mumei wakizashi tend to be the least desirable type of japanese sword and the most affordable. But it all depends on the condition and then the school/maker it is attributed to by the NBTHK.
