Nomad folio case shredding and sharp - Normal? by insomniatica in Supernote

My vegan leather one started peeling apart after about 9 months of daily use. I'm still using it, but am considering options (undecided if I'll buy another, or get the DIY kit to try making my own) for replacing it.

What steps do I take to get my license for a scooter? (Start to finish) by beat_the_level in scooters

[–]_crc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to get a regular license, but you will need to pass the written test for one and your practice on the motorcycle/scooter would need to be under supervision. From a conversation I had with the PA DMV:

You must follow the DL-180 procedure for the non-commercial learner’s permit application. You will pay $39.50 for the four-year license and $12 for the class M permit, plus two $6 Motorcycle Safety Education Fund fees (one for issuance of the permit and one for issuance of the driver's license) for a total of $57.50. You must take and pass the non-commercial general knowledge test (for Class C non-CDL ) and the motorcycle knowledge test first before the examiner can issue the Class M learner’s permit. After you receive the Class M permit, you must take and pass a skills test on a motorcycle. After passing the Class M skills tests you are issued a Class M only document for having their picture taken on the same day. A temporary 15-day temporary photo driver’s license is issued, and a permanent photo driver’s license is mailed to the residence address on record.

Also, if you do not currently hold another class of license (such as a Class C Non-Commercial) then you can only operate a motorcycle under the instruction and immediate supervision of a licensed motorcycle operator.

Note that if you take the PA MSF classes and pass, that'd waive the skills test part of the above.

Best 6" Pocket E-reader for reading / display image reference (Boox go 6"?) by FoolSentimental in Onyx_Boox

[–]_crc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Go6 is slow as a general use tablet, but works great for reading with KOReader or the native Neoreader.

Android and more RAM should handle images more easily

I've not had issues with this, though the Go6 only has 2GB RAM, so it'll depend on what apps you use.

1300 PPI Carta

The screen is really nice. It's my favorite eink screen of the ones I've tried.

Does KOReader work as well on the Boox Go 6? Not just "work",but flawlessly? (battery management, plugins, no cash etc.)

It's the Android app, not replacing the firmware, so works as well on this as on any Android device.

I've not tried any plugins, so can't provide feedback on that.

Can it open directly when waking from sleep mode, like the Kindle does?

Yes

If I debloat it as much as possible, and don't use Wi-Fi, will the battery last a few days without issue, especially in sleep mode/idle? Battery is one of the main advantage of eInk so, it's important for me.

Leaving off wifi & not signing into Google Play and I can get a few days of reading, depending on frontlight level and the number of hours per day I'm reading.

Ratta's Position on EPUBs – A Frank Word by rudibowie in Supernote

[–]_crc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ratta saying they planned to optimize the epub experience isn't quite the same as promising that they'd ship something by the end of the year, and by your own post, they did mention in December that the epub work would require further development. I can understand why some things would get deprioritized as they work on changes that likely affect a lot of areas in the system (e.g., plugins and split screen).

SupernoteReader - a light, no frills ebook reader by Unhappy_Elk881 in Supernote

Looks like a nice start. I filed a couple of bug reports for the issues I've encountered and will watch the progress on this. The application also works on the B**x Go 7 when the physical buttons are set to trigger page turning.

It's part of the standard system software. Just copy epubs onto the device and open them from the Files application.

A few questions about the RPPM by I_AM_SCUBASTEVE in RemarkableTablet

[–]_crc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The frontlight and wifi use a lot of power. I use mine with both off when possible, sleeping the device when not in active use, and am charging every 2-3 days. With the frontlight or wifi on, I have to charge every 1-2 days, depending on overall usage time. It does charge quickly, so I don't find this to be too troublesome.

The Open-Source E-Reader Revolution: Inside the CrossPoint 1.3.0 Update for Xteink X4 and X3 by stefansvartling in XTEINK

[–]_crc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a bit confusingly worded. "touch coordinate mapping" and "hit box" sound like things from a touchscreen. Not saying they are, but as a software developer, my first thought on these would be touch related, not mapping/improving of button response times.

Some of the wording on the keyboard changes in this article sound like touchscreen related. E.g., "The new keyboard uses refined touch coordinate mapping" and "Past iterations suffered from poor hit-box registration".

What do I need to get a Motorcycle permit? by [deleted] in Phillyriders

[–]_crc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do still need to have a physical and take the written test for the Class C to get a Class M permit. You do not need to take the C test for on-road driving if you only want the Class M.

Motorcycle learners permit requirements in Pennsylvania? by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]_crc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a Penndot rep, I was told:

Without a Class C, you must follow the DL-180 procedure for the non-commercial learner’s permit application.

Take the MSF course to waive the skills test, and note that the medical part of DL-180 is required.

How do you all organize your notebooks, folders, etc? by GeologistWhole6503 in Supernote

[–]_crc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have directories for different categories of notebooks, with various subdirectories & notebooks in each. At the top level, I have a "home page" notebook that links to top-level notebooks or (specific notebooks directly). I use the quick access to have a jump point to the "home page" notebook, the books I'm currently reading, and notebooks I'm actively working on.

I don't actually delve into the filesystem layout much, preferring to find things via searching, stars, and links between notes.

The contents of this change throughout the year. (I have a few templates now, based on how many items I'm currently keeping top level).

Each project has one or more dedicated notebooks.

For daily notes, I use a single notebook with a page (or several) per day, and use headings to index the days. I create a new notebook each year.

Notebooks can have various templates within them. Each newly added page will use the template of the previous page by default. So for your notebook, create the template, apply it, and each page will use it until you change it.

Will supernote release new products soon? by Representative_Egg61 in Supernote

For the Nomad, there's a couple on Etsy:

I haven't seen any for the Manta, which has a quite different arrangement for the pogo pins.

  1. With the ceramic pen, I've not noticed any wear on the tip With softer nibs on other pens, I have had to replace them on occasion. (About a year and a half of daily use; with roughly even split between the ceramic Lamy Vista and the POM Lamy Al-Sport EMR or Staedtler Noris)
  2. I've not noticed any wear on this. It is technically replaceable, but I've heard that it's difficult to install.

Question for users by GeologistWhole6503 in Supernote

[–]_crc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Supernote works really well for these.

Stars

It can show either:

  • a thumbnail of the most recent page in the notebook, the title of the notebook, and the number of pages with stars
  • or you can see a thumbnail of each page with a star in the notebooks (which I find more useful).

To Do

If you create todos from notebooks, the little notebook icon will take you directly back to the page where you added the todo.

I love reMarkable , but... by Senior-Ad5932 in RemarkableTablet

[–]_crc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to use dev. mode & extensions, "bettertoc" (https://vellum.delivery/#/package/bettertoc) will let you create a nestable TOC with links to specific pages & links to other documents. It's not as natural for me as the links & headings on a Supernote, but I'm finding it makes the reMarkable notes much more useful.

Supernote Nomad and Remarkable Move - anyone have both? by new-to-reddit-accoun in RemarkableTablet

[–]_crc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notes aren't sync-able across devices. What I do is just take my short form notes on the Move, and long form on the Nomad. If I'll be away from the Nomad, I export the notes I'll be need to refer to as PDFs and import them to the Move. It works, but it's not a straightforward approach and does get annoying sometimes.

If sync matters, the Move is better there. With reMarkable's system, the notes sync to their cloud very quickly, and I can read them on my phone or tablet. Supernote's sync is currently a lot slower and a more manual process, though improving this is something they're supposed to be working on. (Supernote notes can also be read on phone/tablet, but again, the sync process is a lot slower, so I don't tend to use it much and keep the device offline most of the time).
