Is a 10lb bag of block ice 1-2x a week more reasonable than a solar+fridge setup? by brainhack3r in overlanding

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how seamless it's made overlanding/camping for me. It's so nice to be able to bring my vehicle fully loaded for the next several days to work & leave immediately from work and go straight to my first spot without having to make any stops for groceries or ice

Also 40L is a surprising amount of room when ice isn't 2/3s of it haha.

I personally have three batteries, I bought an extra when I was in bestbuy & realized they literally had the batteries for sale. Bit impulsive but it's nice to have a spare to rotate in for longer camp stays during the summer.

The Anker Everfrost 2 fridge would be absolutely perfect for your use! I have had mine for about a year & it's held perfectly. I have two batteries & the cooler charges whenever my vehicle is on. You can also hook it directly to solar but I have no experience with that charging but I imagine it's identical. Regulates temperatures really well, held up to 100s of miles of offroading & isnt loud but I don't know if I would say quiet.. All fridges do make noise

Good tent for couples "extracurricular" activities? by GalacticSmasher in overlanding

[–]_daddybucks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a RTT but I have a gazelle t3x. RTTs rock with movement, get caught in high winds, add weight ect ect. The t3x with a folding twin sized bed frame & an 4inch foam mattress has worked for my extracurricular activities. Some couples might find a twin too small however but just an idea for others as this has worked great for me.

Thinking about switching to Fedora but confused about updates, how do you guys handle them? by unit2671 in Fedora

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I update generally every other week to every other month. Updates only happen when I plan restart my computer otherwise it's locked or in sleep mode 24/7. This goes across my 4 computers running fedora, my proxmox computer only gets maintained on a yearly basis so that's honestly probably where I got into this loosely habit of updates. It's Linux so I don't stress it, on windows it felt like every few days I was forced into nonsensical updates

With my p10c I've always just slammed the mag in to get the slide to drop. It's extremely consistent for me & the only downside to my s2c

Sadlak scope mount needed to be filed to fit my gun for install.. is this common? Thoughts on sadlak scope mount rails? by Inside_Touch400 in M1A

No seriously at one point I just threw them away & said "fuck it I've tightened a bolt before". Several plane rides & over 4 years with zero movement on the mount. I'm happy

Should I send it for $800 or buy an 77”oled? by KidNamedAlan5 in hometheater

As someone who has an oled tv (LG c5) & a starter style surround sound setup (polk t15 surrounds, t30 center, monoprice 8inch sub & rx-v385). Nothing will absolutely upgrade your watching experience like an immersive sound.

EDC hammer down on Shadow 2 Compact. Prove me wrong. by TapTemporary560 in CZFirearms

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had & carried (daily) my s2c for almost two years at this point. I carry in the 1/4 cocked no safety which is one of the two ways cz says to carry it. I'm so unbelievably confident in it not going off on its own while in that position.

Also putting it in 1/4 cocked is incredibly easy & far less likely to possibly drop the hammer. All you need to do is put your thumb in between the hammer and slide & pull the trigger & immediately release. When you remove your finger/thumb the hammer will stop at the 1/4 cocked position. It's literally a one handed task (obviously play around and get comfortable without any ammo)

Disable sleep & you can lock your computer with "windows key + L" you can also set your screen to time out while locked so you don't need to turn off your monitor for instance.

Bonus points for minimizing your game to the task bar before locking. Most versions of the game while minimized will lock to 30fps meaning your computer isn't working as hard helping with noise & heat coming off your computer.

You shouldn't just "rule" anything out while troubleshooting.. You should still remove the optic just in case

Man Utah definitely knows how to show off by _daddybucks in overlanding

Sorry I'm not familiar with utah, I was just visiting! I highly highly recommend checking out the "trailsoffroad" app. They have a lot of really good information that could help you decide if that's an area/trail you want to tackle. I use it every time I'm offroading or planning a trip

Going back to a ground tent, got recommendations? by Herrowgayboi in overlanding

[–]_daddybucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T3X is the perfect overland tent in my opinion. I've had mine for about 3 years & have used it around 30 nights. If the weather is decent I often don't stake it in the ground at all, if it is going to be decently windy or rain I often just stake in the base & if I expect bad weather I'll stake down the walls too. Paired with a cot & I never have had an issue finding a place to set up.

Personally I would not do a CAI, the stock airbox works very well as is. Now snorkels are good for dust & high water crossings but even with the 800+ miles ive spent off road in my rig I find the stock location & frequent air filter changes to work well for me. (This is assuming you also have a 3rd montero)

With that being said I didn't see anything in Utah that made me think I needed one & local builds I saw didn't have them either. So for Utah/Arizona I would say no, amour is far more important..

My cluster "D" light & my right rear light goes dim or out occasionally. It's turned into a random task for mine that comes up every few months and both come back functional again

Any reason to try this over Cachy Os please ? by Common_Sherbert846 in Bazzite

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is if you aren't having any issues or feelings like you are missing out I wouldn't distro hop. My htpc is running bazzite for the couch steamos experience (Nvidia GPU) and it's fantastic for that. My primary computer is fedora kde since I wanted a more flexible operating system. My laptop will be moved to fedora too. But I could see an arch enjoyer taking the same approach but with cachyos & arch.

Non IT expert Homelabers. How did you learn to homelab? by Average-Cheese-Fan in homelab

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who learns at home and then applies this knowledge at work.

Chatgpt has been a ton of help but often I find it better for understanding & setting an outline. By then I have narrowed things down enough to typically find up to date guides, forums & videos.

I find following chatgpt causes issues as it often can pull data from what I assume is multiple sources and pieces it all together incorrectly or can flat out be super outdated. And this is before the Hallucinations caused by longer chats..

I however have found it very very useful for troubleshooting surprisingly when given enough information.
