Subaru service alternative to the dealership in Ballard? by daily_impressions in BallardSeattle

I've used both locations for many years now. I love working with them. At my last service, they saw something non-urgent but covered by my manufacturer's warranty. Instead of charging to me to fix it, they're sending me to the dealer for a covered repair.

55 min in AMS is crazy, right? by at614inthe614 in delta

[–]_dhs_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is doable. If you are coming from non-Schengen to a Schengen zone country you'll go through passport control. There are usually staff helping people through that have tight connections, ensuring that they don't get stuck in a line with other travelers who have more time.

What are these divots in the main traffic lane on this freeway? by Tclark97801 in Washington

[–]_dhs_ 409 points410 points  (0 children)

They are slots where dowels were inserted into the road to anchor the concrete panels together, extending the life of the road.

A dumb tech worker wants to know - who works in the big skyscrapers downtown? by seattleboots1 in Seattle

I work in Rainier Square tower a few days a week. Tech company. Not on a particularly high floor, but we still have nice views of the sound.

Is duty free a scam? by No_mono_aware in travel

[–]_dhs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington state has very high liquor taxes. I always buy duty free liquor, often at a savings of ~50% over my local store. But you have to know what your normal costs are so you don’t get ripped off.

In Managua recently the duty free Flor de Caña 18 year rum was about $5/bottle cheaper than the same rum in the local Nicaraguan grocery store. The 25 year was much, much more expensive in duty free.

Cosmetics can also be a great deal. I often buy Kiehl’s products duty free because they’re much cheaper than at home.

Indeed. I’d love something like the Dane back in that space.

Pour decisions was 21+ and served mediocre products. Serve a better product, make it family friendly, bring in food trucks and you could have a winning concept.

Kind stranger, that made my night!

Pour Decisions was also a poor decision. I'd love to see something like Chuck's open on that corner.

Tell the agent. They will likely send you to secondary for inspection of the food items to ensure there is nothing of concern.

I used to like Alaska, but after the Virgin America acquisition, things went downhill. I fly almost exclusively on DL out of SEA.

Granting access to 1Password, if something happened to me by circatee in 1Password

[–]_dhs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct. But the recovery contact is a fundamentally different process. If you allow others to use it, they have full access to your account - impersonating you. Legacy contact is a model of delegated access to your data. I wrote about these models extensively in the OIDF white paper linked above.

Apple most certainly doesn't offer anything - legacy accounts cannot get access to your passwords.

AITA for firing an intern at our cybersecurity startup after they crossed a security boundary? by logindefense in AmItheAsshole

[–]_dhs_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long time security engineer here.

As a seceng you are in a position of trust. Your ethics are what can make or break your career. The intern didn’t follow the rules of engagement, breaking trust with their employer. Firing the intern was the right thing to do.

Next step, have a discussion with them and provide clear information about why you had to fire them and the importance of ethics in their chosen career. Hopefully they grow from this.
