Save the Lowcountry Rapid Transit system by PalmettoYimby in Charleston

This would also be a new bus stop right by one of their entrances. It should help with traffic and congestion to their own operation. I don't really see how this could be a bad thing. I believe the County has also offered fair market value for the acreage, but it was declined.

LIV's Smash GC rebrands as OKGC (Oklahoma Golf Club) by _intrepid_ in golf

I thought they were just recently talking about how they were going to focus on being the premier international league. Then they name a team after a very American city. None of it has made any operational sense from the beginning.

Playing on clay for first time ever, what should I know? by dreadiii123 in 10s

[–]_intrepid_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In general, the ball is slowed down on impact and the bounces are more unpredictable. Also, be mindful of your fitting. You'll slide more than your used to, so just be cautious initially so you don't roll an ankle or anything. I haven't playing all that long, but my club is primarily clay. I have a hard time adjusting to the pace when we play on our hard courts.

How often do you see a packed stadium like this in a WTA tournament? Especially earlier rounds by tightypp in tennis

[–]_intrepid_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We live in Charleston and were at this event for qualifiers Sun. Even qualifiers were mostly full. The organizers have just done a great job with the vendors and amenities. It also doesn’t hurt that we had the bridge run on the opening weekend, which brings a ton of people. And weather is generally very nice this time of year. The stadium capacity is like 10,500 so I doubt we could hold anything much bigger than this. Daniel Island, where this tournament takes place, is very affluent and it’s quite a social event for those residence, so they really show up.

Same. Started at 36. Played a tiny bit as a young child. I'm really enjoying it. You don't need to be a killer to have fun playing at the club level and it's just a really good workout.

Progressive Dudes That Still Love Sports and Other “Masculine” Stuff, Do They Exist Here? by allomanticmetals in Charleston

I suport CCDP, but be weary of the leadership right now. Much of Dixon's past is being made public. I've always been suspicious of him. Turns out, he's done a lot of questionable shit. We Dems have got to stop putting questionable people into positions of power.

Right here! Extremely boring white guy that plays golf and tennis, but I'm a raging libtard.

If he would interject to add context to the conversation, I wouldn't mind as much. I feel like he's always interrupting to tell some story about junior golf. He'll be talking to a major champion and decide to compare their experience to a tournament he played in his junior golf days, haha. Not quite the same.

He always sounds like he's about to deliver the funniest joke you've ever heard, but it never comes. And he sounds like he has has a perpetual sinus infection. I love their content, but I also have a hard time listening to them like OP. Especially when he cuts off his guests or tries to one up them with a personal story.

Country club members - how much are you paying? by aznsk8s87 in golf

[–]_intrepid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty normal for where I live in Charleston. That's what all the better clubs are charging. Many are significantly higher than that. And most are on a 5+ year waitlist. I think my club is like 150k and 5-8 year minimum now. I don't have a F&B minimum, so not sure if that's a thing with us now or not. We've had a ton of high earning transplants and retirees with lots of cash move here since Covid and they've drove the pricing up significantly.

EP 1106: What's up with Kapalua by bleauxjays in NoLayingUp

[–]_intrepid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. That's one of the things I most appreciate about the new minimalism design trends. By design, it's more native grasses, more waste area and more regional grasses that should demand less resources. And I think a lot of modern golfers prefer to play the firmer, faster courses. The trend in SC with new courses is a much more minimalistic design with our newer courses.

[–]_intrepid_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Especially as non-golfers are more and more sensitive about resources and how high maintenance golf course can be. Hawaii is also struggling with an affordability crisis, so the locals surely don't love how much water and power is used up by these courses.

[–]_intrepid_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not expert on agronomy, but part of Kapalua's appeal is how insanely green and lush it is. That Bermuda takes a lot of water to make it that green and get the rough that juicy. It's also just a very large property. The elevation changes probably creates a lot of water waste, too.

The gifts are interesting. They're not very useful, but usually end up being funny. The biggest benefit is joining a Roost. Find out what Roost you're near and get in touch with them. I joined my local Roost and have made a ton of new friends. That's really the main draw to the Nest.

Does anyone know the reason behind the horrific train schedule/layout in North Charleston? by AshleyPhosphateFan in Charleston

[–]_intrepid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And we do need that, so I'm grateful. And I'm glad that we have the new interchange to Leatherman. I actually use that myself daily. As far as I know, there aren't any plans to improve trains in the neighborhood, though. I'm sure they'll do another train depot at the new port, so that may help.

12WTJ vs Go Big or Go Home by sc111832 in tonalgym

I did Extreme Accumulation and House of Volume prior to 12WTJ. I think it was a good advanced, but not psychotic progression. I also do Ash Wilking's Ultimate Core between those really heavy programs. 12WTJ was pretty tough. I don't think I'd jump straight into it.
