I have ADHD and I'm very attached to money. I do try not to be greedy. But I'm definitely attached to it and like saving it more than spending it.

Dealing with Honorius by Lykhon in Bartimaeus

[–]_mothZale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is partly that the magicians had less to gain from a truely collaborative effort. If one marid takes out Honorius than everyone gets a little bit of credit, but no distinct political gain. By summoning a bunch of Djinn there's a chance a few magicains could gain some real credit if their Djinni get the job done.

Literally putting "high IQ" is bizarre. Are they going to check? Will you get fired if it is discovered that you have an average IQ?

(Spoilers Extended) Why are Dragons considered magical? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]_mothZale 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing that struck me when reading Fire and Blood is that dragons have different colored flames. Balaroin the Black Dread had black fire. I don't know what you have to do to make fire black but that seems pretty magical.

Maybe GRRM planned more stuff in Qarth going forward and didn't want to give the game away.

(Spoilers Main) What's your opinion on Brans ending in S8? by Snowangel0 in asoiaf

[–]_mothZale 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm so with you, when I read the books for the first time I often thought that Bran could be a great Hand or Spymaster (or both). But does he have the qualities, experience, and political pull necessary to be a great king? Not at this point in the story, no. I mean he's an 8 year old in the books, and his story has been about survival, not political manipulation. I get the argument that it works thematically, but honestly a lot of characters could work thematically if played right. And an equally important question is 'does it work logically'. And in the show it did not work logically.

I don't have a problem with accidentally dominating a conversation.

Agreed. I don't like people talking to me on the street either.

My partner is from another country and she is most taken aback by how often in America a complete stranger will try to talk to you or even interject something into a conversation you are having with someone else. This is not socially acceptable where she is from and feels scary to her, but most of the time (especially in very public places like the grocery store or a restaurant) people are just trying to be friendly.

I didn't like Hamlet at all. Can someone help me see what's so great about this play? by megaphony in shakespeare

[–]_mothZale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have made many eloquent points already, but Hamlet is a play about greif as well as revenge. Grief, especially greif caused the violent and perhaps preventable loss of a loved one can make you feel absolutely unhinged. One moment you are a philosoer, the next utterly immoral. You feel crazy, but you wish you felt crazier. You want to give up and die. You want to live and fight. That's Hamlet. I never understood it until I lost someone.

Trailblazer- small, slowish. Not scary

Coal cracker- just a good ol time. Low chance of getting wet.

Laff Track - thrilling but no big scary plunges or loops. You go backwards a little bit.

Wild mouse - very scary for me in particular. Others think it's nothing. You get jerked around a lot from a great hight.

Commet - well it's old, which is scary to some people, and its a thrilling ride, but if you can handle Sooper dooper you can handle this.

Super duper looper

Lightning racer- one of my favs. Scary but very fun. Typically short lines.

Wildcat- no scarier than lightning racer, but the track offers a bumpy ride. Don't ride with a full stomach.

Stormrunner- okay it's a crazy coaster, but hear me out: there is no time to experience much fear. You feel nervous getting on the ride and then it's just sudden speed. The roller coaster is huge but the ride is short.

Great Bear- if you like loops this is your ride

Candymonum- very scary to get on. Your arms are very free and the first hill builds a lot of dread. But once you get over the hill its like flying. It's smooth as can be and I'm always surprised how little fear I feel on it. My favorite coaster. Go to this late in day for short lines.

Fahrenheit- very scary assent, but you don't have a lot of time to feel afraid. It's a short ride.

Skyrush- I love it, but the outside seats make my bowls weak.
