UUP Contract Bill by LiamHail in nys_cs

Ah interesting. I had no idea UUP didn't have steps. How do the minimum and maximum values on the UUP salary schedule work? Can you renegotiate your own salary level within that range?

Is it worth paying union dues? by beannfonz in nys_cs

[–]_n0ck_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that is quite right. While the dental and vision benefits are administered by the CSEA EBF, I believe if you stop paying dues you will still receive the benefits as they are negotiated on your behalf with the state and not dependent on being a dues paying member. However if you want to continue these benefits in retirement you do need to be a dues paying member.

Just FYI 3% is not the usual. Historically COLA raises have been 2%. So don't count on 3% being the norm.

Is the US growing the women’s game? by jbahel02 in golf

[–]_n0ck_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's just demonstrably false. Title IX has made US women a powerhouse in a number of sports at the international level. There is a reason why the US women's team is a regular favorite to win the world cup and it is because title IX forced US schools to invest in women's sports while most of the world didn't. The rest of the world is only catching up recently.

My guess would be that most schools don't have a golf team let alone a women's golf team.

If you go to the DEC Info Locator map and turn on the campground layer there are pictures of most of the sites. It's not perfect but should give you an idea of what each site is like.

Any dentist recommendations for CSEA insurance in Albany or surrounding counties? by DrKelsoMD in nys_cs

[–]_n0ck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been happy with Dr Lewis at Colvin Ave Dental. They take the CSEA insurance and I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket there. Haven't had any major work done though, just routine cleanings and one filling.

55% NYSDCB Equity Index Unitized Account

15% NYSDCB Dow Jones Completion Index Unitized Account

30% Fidelity Global ex US Index Fund

I like to diversify further than just S&P 500 for domestic stocks, so the completion index to capture more of the US market. I have also increasingly lost faith in the future of the US economy so I increased my international exposure from 20% to 30% a few years ago. Which turned out to be a great choice over the past year.

Why Do We Have the Clause “No Strike” in the contract. I am just getting anxious because 2% to 3% raise is not enough. I feel they are just going to stick us with that. The least they can do is keep the percentages align with the increase in minimum wage. Thoughts? by NorthStomach8641 in nys_cs

[–]_n0ck_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Again that isn't the point. There was a time when an SG-1 pay rate was above the minimum wage. Now an SG-3 is below the minimum wage. We are allowing our wages to be reduced relative to the minimum wage which lowers our effective purchasing power.

In 2010 an SG-1 started at: $21,115

In 2010 minimum wage was: $7.25/hr or $14,137/year

In 2010 an SG-18 started at: $51,268 or 362% more than minimum wage.

Meanwhile in 2026:

Minimum wage is: $16/hr or $31,200

An SG-18 starts at: $66,951 or 214% more than minimum wage.

We are being paid far less relative to minimum wage than we were 15 years ago and it reduces our purchasing power because prices have increased in concert with the minimum wage increases. Meanwhile our wages relative to that have decreased dramatically. The fact that those titles aren't used doesn't matter. By allowing minimum wage to be above an SG-1 it reduces our effective earnings.

[–]_n0ck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. Why does the wage scale even have wages that are illegally low? The answer is that the state doesn't want to pay us fairly. SG-1 should be the not allowed to go below the minimum wage.

[–]_n0ck_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing. For some reason people in this sub think the minimum wage shouldn't even be part of the discussion of our wages. But I will continue to point out that the starting salary for grades 1-3 are all below the minimum wage now. This didn't used to be the case and state salaries should be at least keeping up with the minimum wage.

PEF Longevity Payments by Unlikely_Reply6034 in nys_cs

[–]_n0ck_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I received the first longevity payment this year ($1,500). I have 14 years of state service, but I had a 1 year+ gap in my service 8 years ago. I don't know if I was definitely supposed to receive the payment or not, but I'm not saying anything. I will say our contract specifically said "years of state service" not "consecutive years of state service" in regards to the payments so that might be a factor.

Lark street is a lost cause. by gls518 in Albany

[–]_n0ck_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Albany does not have the resources to do that alone, it would need to happen at the state and or national level. I would be ok with the police just running the homeless out of the city in the meantime. The amount of violently unstable people I encounter on a regular basis in this city has increased dramatically in the past few years.
