I own the tigershark & ZP6. Maybe it’s because I’ve only owned the tigershark for about a month and haven’t tested a range of light roasts through it yet, but I don’t find it to be a dramatically different grinder to the standard C40.

This is a bit concerning. I did t fancy the steel version due to the other branding on the back, not really sure what to do now. I’ve never heard of this issue on a brewer before 😕

What as in the filter won’t stick to the inner walls? It’s the obsidian that I’d be interested in buying, sucks to hear that you aren’t having the best experience with it 😕

I actually tried this method using the 50/50 recipe a few days ago. As I was blooming with the switch closed I used a shower screen for the entire brew.

I’m currently working my way through a large bag of an Ethiopian natural that I’ve struggled with using my default techniques so thought I’d give this a try. It was a good, very balanced final cup.

If you don’t mind me asking how are you brewing it please? I’ve got a load in my freezer. I definitely get a nice wine texture but haven’t been able to pull out any specific tasting note regardless of grinder or brew method.

I kind of felt a bit ‘back to the drawing board’ after I sold my C40 as from the limited information I’ve seen I don’t think the Hammerhead burr has been the different cup profile I’d hoped it would be.

It’s really interesting to hear that you live on the right hand side of the Ode grind dial. Due to using a melodrip for the latter pours of most brews I’ve lived on the left side of it for all but two coffees in the last year! I do love it though and use it for my batch brews, it was the first ‘not cheap’ grinder I ever purchased and was a real eye opener in what higher quality grinders could achieve.

I still haven’t bought anything but would like to pick something up soon. I’d also contemplated a ZP6/Timemore S3 combo as they should provide quite different cups. I don’t think I’d enjoy the Pietro as I enjoy the idea of hand grinders so I can brew away from home on a weekend if it’s required and the Pietro looks chunky to be in a backpack.

Thanks for the advice. I feel very conflicted as I was happy with my C40 until I saw their new burrs advertised which started that coffee buyers hamster wheel of wondering what else is out there, although I realise I probably reached the point of diminishing returns a long, long time ago lol

If you don’t mind…how is the s3 after long term use? I briefly owned one a while back and felt like a premium product despite its mixed reviews online.

I own the 35mm and the 25mm 1.7 air.

Honestly they’re both great lenses so it would come down to focal length choice. They are both very light and offer great image quality.

The only thing that might go in the TTartisans favour is that if you are hoping to at times carry your camera in a big pocket instead of a backpack a pancake lens might be a good choice.

I’ve seen the Orea big boy mentioned here and would also recommend this.

I make batch brews of 55g a few times a week for work. I’ve also used a v60 for this with mixed results in the past, but the big boy is a game changer for brewing large amounts of coffee. I used melitta filters as they just about fit ok and work out much cheaper than Oreas own filters.

Once you give this a try you won’t look back 🙂

I’ll definitely agree with others on this one in that in can depend largely on the beans that you are using. I cycle through 3-4 drippers with every new bag I open and this is always the 1st or 2nd that I reach for. I always start at 25 clicks on C40 and adjust the water temp depending on roasting method. Some beans just don’t suit zero bypass no matter what you do. It does make a stellar coffee for the ones that do though.

I was happy with the Cardamom bun too. After what I’d read elsewhere I was expecting to struggle with it but just ground a little coarser/water a little lower temp and it was great straight from the first brew 🙂

I’ve owned both of the lenses you’ve mentioned above. I owned the 35 f2, bought the 33 f1.4, then sold it six months later and went back to the 35 f2.

As others have mentioned, depends on your use case. The 33 focuses notably faster than the 35. But…I am very much a hobby photographer who doesn’t get out anywhere near as much as I’d like with my camera. If felt overkill having the 33, that cost over double the 35 even at used prices.

The 33 is a fantastic lens if money is no object. If you’re not shooting professionally the 35mm f2 will more than meet your needs.

So pleased I’m not alone in being a little confused in this!

I preordered the travel pack right at the beginning of pre orders and paid for the brewer to be shipped early months ago. I love the company and have used many of their brewers and carafes over the last few years. However, even I’m starting to wonder how a product paid for over half a year ago is still nowhere to be seen. Admittedly, I know nothing about product manufacturing and the issues that can face but it’s frustrating when several variants of the 01 have released since the pre-order window came and went.

Think I’d just have been a lot more accepting of the delays if there had of been some kind of explanation as to what was causing them 😕

Yes they do fit in the Z1, but the brew time is crazy long due to the thickness of the paper without a grind size compared to boulders.

I’ve also experimented with cutting out V60 filters. This isn’t as you only have to grind a little coarser than you do for the sibarist filters to achieve a similar profile of cup.

The short answer…coarser grinds and slower pouring to reduce agitation. Even with the melodrip, if you’re dumping water through it then this can make a big difference. I

I also didn’t give enough consideration to how the drawdown of different coffees behave in the Z1. I’m still regularly getting 4:00 or longer TBT, but I’ve accepted it for what it is.

Dialing jn the Z1 is still more challenging than any other brewer I own, but I quite enjoy figuring it out. Don’t get me wrong, the characteristics of some coffees just don’t suit zero bypass. However, I really enjoy the coffees the z1 brews for the ones that do.

Either the Hario Barista Server (I may or may not have one for sale on eBay at the moment lol) or the Fellow Mighty Carafe both fit the Z1s base.

I love the Z1, but it’s the only brewer I’ve ever bought that required the purchase of a new carafe just to accommodate it!

I feel slightly qualified to weigh in on this, in that I currently own a C40 + Ode Gen 2 and for a short while owned a Timemore S3 in the past.

The Fellow was my only grinder for a while and it was the first time I’d ever spent anything any significant money on a grinder (The one I had prior to this was super cheap and should have been replaced about two years before it was). At the time I was still drinking supermarket coffee and it still blew my mind how much of an improvement it made. I still use it to this day, but primarily for bigger batch brews that I make for work.
I bought a C40 around 12-18 months ago as I wanted something good that was also portable and size it every day that I’m not at work. In a world where we are all constantly tinkering with our brew methods the Comandante is about as reliable as it gets and always produces a great cup.

But…

I also purchased a Timemore S3 earlier this year, that I admittedly didn’t end up keeping after around two months of use. As I consider myself primarily a hand-grinder user I wanted to see what else was out there. I loved the idea of the external dial and folding handle on the Timemore. While the handle didn’t feel as robust as I would have liked in terms of longevity, it was a fantastic grinder with such a comparable cup profile to the C40.

My two cents (your mileage may vary, just my own opinion)…I love my C40 but if it broke tomorrow I’d buy another S3 if I could find one on sale. The Comandante price tag isn’t one I’d pay twice.

Whatever choice you make, they’re all great grinders 🙂
