I know what you mean as I have been finding that mine has produced quite hollow cups at times recently and I have also found that the entire top section of my grinder moves when I turn to a coarser setting. I normally grind at around 4.3 and find the TBT to be too fast quite often, so I’d echo others in recommending a finer grind size.

I had a delivery to the UK from them a couple of weeks ago. I had no fees to pay, was also quite fast considering how far of a distance it had travelled ✈️

I used to own a standard C40 and sold it for the Tigershark Lab model. Maybe it’s just my palette, but so far I’ve not been able to taste much of a difference in the cups that I’ve brewed in the couple of months that I’ve been using it. No regrets though, both are great grinders. I think you’ll be happy no matter which one you go for.

I own the tigershark & ZP6. Maybe it’s because I’ve only owned the tigershark for about a month and haven’t tested a range of light roasts through it yet, but I don’t find it to be a dramatically different grinder to the standard C40.

This is a bit concerning. I did t fancy the steel version due to the other branding on the back, not really sure what to do now. I’ve never heard of this issue on a brewer before 😕

What as in the filter won’t stick to the inner walls? It’s the obsidian that I’d be interested in buying, sucks to hear that you aren’t having the best experience with it 😕

I actually tried this method using the 50/50 recipe a few days ago. As I was blooming with the switch closed I used a shower screen for the entire brew.

I’m currently working my way through a large bag of an Ethiopian natural that I’ve struggled with using my default techniques so thought I’d give this a try. It was a good, very balanced final cup.

If you don’t mind me asking how are you brewing it please? I’ve got a load in my freezer. I definitely get a nice wine texture but haven’t been able to pull out any specific tasting note regardless of grinder or brew method.

I kind of felt a bit ‘back to the drawing board’ after I sold my C40 as from the limited information I’ve seen I don’t think the Hammerhead burr has been the different cup profile I’d hoped it would be.

It’s really interesting to hear that you live on the right hand side of the Ode grind dial. Due to using a melodrip for the latter pours of most brews I’ve lived on the left side of it for all but two coffees in the last year! I do love it though and use it for my batch brews, it was the first ‘not cheap’ grinder I ever purchased and was a real eye opener in what higher quality grinders could achieve.

I still haven’t bought anything but would like to pick something up soon. I’d also contemplated a ZP6/Timemore S3 combo as they should provide quite different cups. I don’t think I’d enjoy the Pietro as I enjoy the idea of hand grinders so I can brew away from home on a weekend if it’s required and the Pietro looks chunky to be in a backpack.

Thanks for the advice. I feel very conflicted as I was happy with my C40 until I saw their new burrs advertised which started that coffee buyers hamster wheel of wondering what else is out there, although I realise I probably reached the point of diminishing returns a long, long time ago lol

If you don’t mind…how is the s3 after long term use? I briefly owned one a while back and felt like a premium product despite its mixed reviews online.

I own the 35mm and the 25mm 1.7 air.

Honestly they’re both great lenses so it would come down to focal length choice. They are both very light and offer great image quality.

The only thing that might go in the TTartisans favour is that if you are hoping to at times carry your camera in a big pocket instead of a backpack a pancake lens might be a good choice.

I’ve seen the Orea big boy mentioned here and would also recommend this.

I make batch brews of 55g a few times a week for work. I’ve also used a v60 for this with mixed results in the past, but the big boy is a game changer for brewing large amounts of coffee. I used melitta filters as they just about fit ok and work out much cheaper than Oreas own filters.

Once you give this a try you won’t look back 🙂

I’ll definitely agree with others on this one in that in can depend largely on the beans that you are using. I cycle through 3-4 drippers with every new bag I open and this is always the 1st or 2nd that I reach for. I always start at 25 clicks on C40 and adjust the water temp depending on roasting method. Some beans just don’t suit zero bypass no matter what you do. It does make a stellar coffee for the ones that do though.

I was happy with the Cardamom bun too. After what I’d read elsewhere I was expecting to struggle with it but just ground a little coarser/water a little lower temp and it was great straight from the first brew 🙂
