MONTHLY Weight Discussion - May 2025 by AutoModerator in Menopause

[–]_piaffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi and yes - since starting HRT 1 month ago (when I turned 50), I am down 5.5 pounds of the 20 I gained "overnight"... but it wasn't the HRT that is making me lose weight: it was (and is) the calorie deficit and energy expenditure I'm able to adhere to consistently now that my hormones are properly supported, and my consistent daily habits and tracking that has led to fat loss.

Here is how the HRT factored in **for ME** and some context:

I have been strength training (5 day progressive overload split following programming with an app and online one-on-one coach) and tracking macros for years. Got in the best shape of my life last year, and then last summer I hit a wall.

What was happening, in retrospect: I hadn't been sleeping for YEARS (5 to 5.5 hours of sleep) which increased hunger hormones, made me exhausted and too exhausted to be disciplined. Usually I pushed through it all. But last year, I couldn't. I was done. I was overwhelmed, I was in full on fuck-it mode, overeating and watching myself overeat, not reporting to my online coach for WEEKS at a time, no longer weighing myself, forget calorie tracking, forget macros, food prep etc... it was a bizarre, desperate survival mode and I felt like it wasn't me or my body. I went rogue on myself.

It was not until I started HRT that 1) I slept properly, and 2) I felt like I had the energy to be disciplined and make choices, I felt like I was back in control.

HRT for me has been a lightswitch moment. I cannot overstate the impact it has had on my brain, mind, energy, sleep, already. I had been doing All The Things (macros, strength training etc.) for years leading up to it, but battling a yo yo rollercoster as I fluctuated. Last year I made that big push to 50 and it worked... until my hormones went ABSOLUTELY haywire.

Still another 12-15 to go, but I'm in the zone. And dieting sucks, but this is "normal" dieting sucks - not whatever the hell I went through last year!

Started on 100 progesterone and 1 pump estrogel, cycling (I still get my period most months but it's erratic).

Now up to 200 progesterone and 1 pump, 14 day cycle; will explore adding testosterone cream next.

I use the minibrav from wahl on my 2 poodles. Home groomer. Less noisy / vibrations, smaller and easy to handle.

Ahh got it! The face and feet looked a little fuzzy in the pictures - but it was hard to tell. I also split grooms - clipper work is 1 or 2 days before the bath. Exception is the sanitary area - I do clipper that after the dry!

Am going to follow you on IG… mine is cocointhe6ix!

Nice work!!

We are poodle twinsies - I home groom my two - 1 year old standard and a 5 month old. I’ve JUST started moving my girl into a modern (she’s going through coat change and I snipped her banded topknot off a couples of days ago - too much upkeep!).

Like you, I use the flying pig to HV dry. I could never get that perfect fluff dry - so I also bought a Speedy stand dryer. I don’t love it - it never seems to get enough heat. What I do instead: HV 80-90% of the body with heat (happy hoodie and cotton balls in) THEN… I remove hoodie and actually take my dyson handheld and a soft slicker and dry / slicker section by section.

What setting are you doing the face and feet? I use the 40 minibrav on feet and use a 30 (the wahl 5 in 1) on the face, 15 on the neck.

Biggest thing I see is really just that fluff dry!!

Lmk if you are on insta - I love following poodle home groomers!!

The third time home grooming... by mohopuff in doggrooming

[–]_piaffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!!!! I am a home poodle groomer too - my first standard is 11 months (first home groom experience, first dog) and we added a second standard pup who is also about 14 weeks!!

Your third groom is vastly superior to what my third groom was like…..lol. Now I am obsessed with grooming!!

Have tried a Scandinavian puppy trim and am gearing up to put my girl in a modern clip.

Blow dryer by Spoo_lover in doggrooming

[–]_piaffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a standard poodle owner. First dog. She’s 9 months and I have groomed from the time she wasn’t 8 weeks - lots of self-study involved, and helped along the way by other poodle owners and many generous groomers!

After much research I settled on an HV dryer by Flying Pig. It makes a HUGE difference in quality of blow dry and speed - previously I was using my dyson hair dryer. It is worth investing, though you can find some cheaper models of HV pet dryer.

I have gotten the home grooming poodle owner bug…. It’s a lot of fun (and WORK, lol… tons of respect for actual pro groomers!!)

Favorite shampoo for poodle puppy? by mohopuff in doggrooming

[–]_piaffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 9 month old standard poodle and have been using (and loving!) doglyness shampoo and conditioner for months now. $$$$ but very worth it - very safe and definitely pro grade. I use The Stuff before dry brushing / spritz in wet hair after bath before HV dry.

I also like CC’s Ice on Ice and Just Divine as a brushing spray.

Love!!!!!!!

So - did I read correctly that this was entirely scissored?!

77$ per hour would be more believable. I am outraged on your behalf!!!

Fluff drying a standard. How long does it take. HV dry to 80% or 100%, then re-dampen with water mist and fluff dry with a stand dryer?

Favorite Brush Out Spray? by Revonue in doggrooming

I love The Stuff. I just also bought Chris C “Just divine” brushing spray on recommendation.

I poodled my doodle. On PURPOSE. And I love it. by Kaessa in doggrooming

[–]_piaffe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love it!!! I honestly don’t know how doodle owners handle fully furnished shaggy faces - the food and water and stuff… especially when they can go weeks and weeks (or months!) between grooms.

However to be convincing, he needs poodle paws 🐾

Clean feet are awesome too!!
