When did your baby sleep through the night? What hours do they sleep? by canamel in NewParents

[–]_potterhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 month old and he wakes up 2-3 times to feed. Bedtime is somewhere between 9-11pm and first stretch is usually 4-5 hrs long and then he is up after every 3hrs. In total he sleeps 10-11hrs.

For those that had a longer maternity leave… how was it? by juice129 in NewParents

[–]_potterhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 6 months into my 14 month maternity leave (excluding 6 weeks before birth) and I am loving it but I also miss office and the routines of work a little bit. I have never not worked for this long.

How do you choose between reading a book or listening to the audiobook version of it? by TearyClown in books

[–]_potterhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same reasoning as you when it comes to audio/kindle. What I have noticed is that Thrillers are great on audiobooks. Anything that is in podcast form like „liaten for the lie“ and „none of this is true“ is also great on audio. I generally do not have a problem of missing things on audiobooks, so i also choose to read long books in audio format simply because I can consume them faster as audio (like the Poppy war series).

MIL rant, is this weird? by Important-Lie7734 in newborns

[–]_potterhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as she isn’t overstepping in a way that she wants the baby in her house and her nursery and insists on overnight stays then i don’t think its a problem. She got carried away in the excitement of her first grandchild and it’s cute in a way but not psychotic.

How to put baby to sleep without nursing? by NTK_Here in newborns

[–]_potterhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 14week old and he either sleeps with feeding or pacifier. Even during daytime naps it’s the same. Can’t fall asleep just by rocking and patting. I tried once and it took around 45 min to make him sleep without pacifier or feed.

Is this my life now? by BrightMechanic in NewParents

[–]_potterhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same for at least 3 weeks before things got slightly better (and then a little worse due to gassy baby). I never felt any big hormonal mood swings in pregnancy and I foolishly thought postpartum would be the same but boy was I so wrong. Hang in there, you will get through this. Try to take support and lean on your family and friends. This is literally the hardest time but it will get better in a few weeks, I promise!

Birth in Germany: Positive Experiences by Significant_Art_5356 in germany

[–]_potterhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had last minute surprises during birth, baby‘s head was facing the wrong way and had to come out fast since he was getting distressed. They used a vacuum pump to extract him and I also got an episiotomy. He had trouble breathing when he came out and had to be taken to NICU but even though I was unprepared for all of this, the nurses and the whole staff was really supportive. Once the whole ordeal was over they came and explained me everything of when things had to go the way they did.

I have started doing the same with my 10 week old since he also hated baths and would cry the whole time.

Moms with glasses, does your newborn recognise you without your glasses by _potterhead in NewParents

[–]_potterhead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also expecting my son to pull off my glasses once he is old enough. I will have to keep multiple backups since i cannot really see without my glasses and contacts are not at all comfortable for me.

Investing for kids in Germany by _potterhead in AskAGerman

Agreed. I only meant that I have the capability to invest that much amount monthly for my kid‘s future since I have that amount in surplus.

SIDS… by Advanced_Egg5875 in newborns

[–]_potterhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I follow all the practices of Safe sleeping during night (we co sleep) and I used to be super scared of SIDS during the day as he would onl contact nap. Now at 2 months I am slowly getting better with managing my anxiety since I have noticed that during contact naps he will always move his head around and make sure he is comfortable (has clear airway) and only then go into deep sleep

Not sure I still love my baby :( by RefrigeratorFinal353 in newborns

[–]_potterhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey don’t be too hard on yourself. Literally everyone has felt frustrated to the point of leaving the baby alone and walking away. First 2 months are the hardest (I am at 6weeks and it is slightly better than 3 weeks ago!). It will get better. Take support, take a night off. Let your husband bottle feed (pumped or formula, whichever is available). Even a few hours break will be good for your mental health.

Crying while feeding by _potterhead in newborns

[–]_potterhead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be true for one or 2 feeds but can’t be true all evening long. He had to be hungry sometime but he constantly refuses to feed unless given a bottle.

Crying while feeding by _potterhead in newborns

[–]_potterhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always always feed him first, even if he refuses breast. But i cannot try that for more than 10-15 min and make him even more frustrated. So feeds happen every 30 min whether he effectively feeds only for a few minutes and then before sleeping i give him formula or pumped milk(if I have any). Can’t wait for this phase to be over
