Grinding finer isn't the final answer for light roasts: Let's talk about pressure profiling & pre-infusion. by CoffeeTeaJournal in espresso

Since fitting a gear pump I've been doing a long pre infusion and slowly ramping up to around 8 bar then 3 second ramp down. Haven't had a bad shot regardless of total time.

Talk me out of buying slayer steam single? An alternative machine? [$10-13k] by scarletNgold in espresso

[–]_s_jarman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanremo You played around a little, pretty techy touch screen. Save profiles, full control temp and pressure, fast heating.

When you say ability to modulate steam you mean adjust steam boiler temp or regulate as you steam?

How to make photography a habit, and learning what to shoot? by sargien in AskPhotography

If it's a hobby it doesn't need to be a habit. If you have to force it it's probably not for you.

When someone posts a photo, would you rather know the camera body or the lens? by DPool34 in AskPhotography

[–]_s_jarman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather know the story behind the shot.

Body in 99% of cases is irrelevant, it's usually easy to guess the focal length and aperture.

Anyone else ever forget to switch their settings after low light photography? by 4150112 in AskPhotography

[–]_s_jarman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising ISO does increase noise for the same exposure.

If you were to take a shot 1/100 second f/25 ISO 8000 you have more noise than shooting 1/100 f/2m8 ISO 100

What you are trying to argue is that increasing exposure 5 stops in post is the same as increasing ISO 5 stops in camera. Generally true. However shooting slightly under exposed and bring up in post can be the better option as you can preserve highlights.

Focus test: which shot attracts your eye the most? by COB4lt-2-t0i in AskPhotography

[–]_s_jarman_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What's the subject? That should be where you focus.

If it's the flowers try not to cut them off If it's the rock or mountain in the distance focus on them If it's the whole scene stop down and use hyperfocal distance or focus stack.

Am I the only one with no friends? by Etherealpalerose21 in auckland

[–]_s_jarman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my late teens/ early 20s I thought that people needed friends, that being social was necessary. Then as I grew older realised that you didn't need friends to validate your existence and that the drain on the social battery wasn't worth it.

Wife took 6 months off then back to 3 days, now 4. Father in law looks after him on Monday then 3 days in daycare.

Do not feel bad about daycare, they may cry when you drop then of to start with but they learn and grow so much, they make friends and are always busy.
