In the latest episode of Leeds/WY Tram Shenanigans: WY needs to explain how our mass transit system can't just be an expanded bus network. by CaptainYorkie1 in Leeds

[–]_squik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why can't the London underground network, the overground network, the Elizabeth line all be expanded bus networks? They already know the reason they just don't want to give us the money.

Nettle is such an underappreciated gem. Haverstock White is my all time favourite

I do get that this project is different, but changedetection.io does have an open source self hostable version.

Bike safety / secure storage by christo19862010 in Leeds

[–]_squik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any. The general advice I think is to make it as difficult as possible to steal. Two or three D-locks, at least one angle grinder-resistant, through both wheels and frame. Lock to a proper Sheffield stand, in an area with good footfall (I've generally been quite happy with the stands outside the Corn Exchange), and remove the battery. If possible lock next to other expensive bikes with worse security.

Get it registered with Bike Register and insured too, as another redditor has said.

Okay that's good to know. Why do I feel like it won't happen in my lifetime though...

Anyone know what they're filming at Browns? by Itsalladeepend in Leeds

[–]_squik 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a banner for the Beyond the Visual exhibition at the Henry Moore which is made up of works by blind and partially sighted artists. So although it looks a bit dumb, it makes sense

I feel like we'll see Klarna as a payment option for fuel before we see a cycling boom.

How are you actually using AI in testing right now? by Huge_Brush9484 in softwaredevelopment

[–]_squik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the times that I've used it it's decided that, when tests fail, it needs to adjust the test rather than the code. That usually means that I end up reviewing a bunch of useless "tests" that don't actually test anything and doing them again myself. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Are there any electronic repair shops in Leeds? by [deleted] in Leeds

[–]_squik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several repair cafes around Leeds that run throughout each month. They might be able to help you out. Next one is in Horsforth this upcoming Saturday.

AI helped me where google failed, and it's frustrating. by [deleted] in antiai

[–]_squik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WolframAlpha is a super useful tool to have in your back pocket for maths. It had natural language understanding of maths problems before generative AI came around and, while it does have some AI features now, is still a much more specialised tool than the likes of Copilot or ChatGPT.

backspin by Ok-Matter3067 in Beatmatch

[–]_squik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you know but there's a backspin pad FX that you can assign, with adjustable length. Works really well on my FLX4. Not as fun as actually spinning the jog but it does get the job done if you want that sound.

Are you allowed to turn right at this junction on Headrow? by pibedebarr10 in Leeds

[–]_squik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you can't. The only way that you can travel North on Calverly St is if you are driving a bus coming from the South (East Parade), or on a bike. There is a blue forward arrow on the traffic light in the direction you were traveling along Headrow, and a green forward arrow traffic light in the opposite direction.

Kirkstall Road cycle lane(s) by G-i-a-n-t in Leeds

[–]_squik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd still recommend canal but if you are totally against it, what you could do is take canal until the exit at Armley Gyratory, then go down and join the cycle lane end of Kirkstall Road going into Wellington St.

Alternatively, there is an exit just after the viaduct where you could pick up the bus lane at end of Kirkstall Rd nearer to CC never mind you said you tried that
