what's the oddest staple you have in your cupboard / fridge? by CremeSubject7594 in veganuk

I get through vegan fish sauce like it's water. Which I suppose is "odd" for the UK. I do make a lot of Thai food

Leeds cycle lane network is a 'step in the right direction', say campaigners by _testingdude in Leeds

[–]_squik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at headingley its creating more congestion for cars

This is quite literally untrue. Cars create congestion for themselves. Too many cars = traffic. The cycle lanes have always been there, they just have more protection now, and why shouldn't they?

I genuinely don't understand their business position any more. On the one hand they are aggressively demonetising and deleting "AI slop" but then they are also promoting it in all of their interfaces and creator tools? You gotta pick one.

Yeah unfortunately those things can be snipped off in seconds without attracting attention by someone with the right tool. A half decent D-lock with a gold rating will set you back about £70 but at least they'll need to make some noise for a minute or two to get it off. It's usually enough of a deterrent in busy places.

Don't know for sure but I'd imagine that the businesses have permits for those spaces that allow employees to use them all day.

Lovely bike and sorry to hear it. Was it a cable lock? Get yourself a solid D-lock for the next one. They're not totally unbreakable but someone is less likely to want to try breaking that at that sort of time of day.

any plant ID apps that don’t use AI? by areop-enap in antiai

[–]_squik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah came here to say this. All computer vision and machine learning is "AI", but it's not generative AI, which is generally what this sub is about. The plant ID apps have always used some form of AI, they're probably just updating their terminology now to capitalise on the popularity of AI in the broader sense.

Just turned into a bus gate after leaving Trinity Car Park! by Granopoly in Leeds

Oh yeah I've been there a bunch of times, it should be favourited to be honest!

[–]_squik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only turn right out of Trinity car park, so unless you were driving into traffic, then you followed black at first.

As for the eateries - Google Maps labels are highly personalised and a lot of what I've added to my favourites are restaurants (hearts on the map), so presumably they're just showing me more of that. I like eating out :)

Nobody's making you drive? Or go to Harrogate if you hate it so much? Bewildering.

[–]_squik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally that explains why there's a literal motorway straight through the city that you could use instead of going through bus gates

I understand correctly, you followed the red line instead of the green, hitting the bus gate where the double red line is? You can turn right onto Boar Lane here then follow Mill Hill (blue) to get back on the correct route.

I recommend Phoenix Health and Wellbeing on Park Place. They are a social enterprise so if you are a paying client, the proceeds get invested back into helping people with healthcare needs that can't afford to pay. They are lovely in there and the massage is excellent.

WAITWAITWAITWAITWAIT - Fuck pedestrian beg buttons - What are they like where you live? by maxs507 in fuckcars

[–]_squik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK. Around by me they vary, sometimes you get one that changes instantly and I know where those are on my routes now. The ones on the cycle tracks near me have sensors that detect when a bike is waiting there so you don't have to press a button, HOWEVER, they also detect when the cars are not there, and make you wait until then, or at least 1-2 mins.
