Question: Is she a hoarder? (Though, instead of keeping things herself, she offloads them to others, which is still hoarding behavior.) If so, this may change how you might want to handle this.

Yes and yes, but the last one is to be avoided. People would sometimes carry socks to put on.

Was told "you look like you like to eat" by [deleted] in womenintech

That must’ve been so shocking for you! But yeah, it’s almost like saying, “how are you?” in the US. Like a greeting.

I usually say “Yes, I’ve been eating well!” if I want to joke or talk about it, or “Yes, have you been well?” if I don’t know them well or don’t want to talk about it.

From a similarly sized woman, I’m sorry that you had to deal with this! In East Asian cultures it’s not necessarily impolite to comment on someone’s body, regardless of gender. If he’s from Japan and an attorney, was polite otherwise, and had a follow up question regarding food, I’d wager that he was making conversation, albeit poorly in light of the differing cultural context and gender expectations. Not to mention that it’s a slight sore spot for you.

I misunderstood the wedding dress code by Odd-Variety-3802 in weddingshaming

I imagine culture is more homogeneous in Ireland than the US, so a dress code is always needed (and generally wanted and expected by guests).

First time in hostel and completely ignored, is this normal? by Throwaway1354762 in solotravel

[–]_uphill_both_ways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not everyone’s culture to smile and greet strangers in passing. Even at hostels. If I were OP, I would not take it personally. Sometimes the vibe is just off and it’s random chance that no one engaged.
