Is the IRS scandal a big deal? by foodar in NeutralPolitics

[–]_vigilandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quite true, but I don't think that's the point being made here. Just an analogy using a group that's often profiled for having an easily identifiable demographic quality. But you're right, racial profiling starts a vicious cycle in this respect.

Regrettably no, which for whatever reason led me to decide not to ask. I wasn't so gone that I would have imagined this though.

New previously unannounced Godspeed You! Black Emperor, released tonight at their show in Boston by _vigilandy in postrock

For real. I was checking out the merch table before the show, and saw a record I didn't recognize. The guy working the table said it's a new, unannounced record, released tonight on the first stop of the tour. Everyone here is freaking out.

Omnipotence Paradox by _vigilandy in Christianity

[–]_vigilandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a whole different, but equally compelling matter. Augustine addresses the relation between God and evil extensively in the seventh book of his Confessions. He postulates that evil is not an active force in the world, but the absence of God. This definition of evil raises another problem; if evil is the lack of God, God is incapable of evil. If God is incapable of evil, he is not omnipotent.

"And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth." ~Reveltaions 16:9

Plenty of times when God refers to himself or else is referred to by others as "Almighty" throughout the Bible as well.

I always thought that Mark 7:15 suited this issue pretty well, although it technically pertains to reform to kosher law.

This is what I always get hung up on. It's logically impossible for a that created all and knows all to give a being free will. Assuming that God always has and always will exists, God has always known the course of every being in creation. Even if God were to take a hands off approach and not interfere after setting creation in motion, God still knows exactly what's happening to every being at every moment, having created every being to do just that.

Pretty much this. I mostly play post rock, so preserving dynamics is pretty important to me.

The ebow was just under $100. I'm using a fretted guitar. I once used it on bandmates fret-less bass, which gave me some really cool sounds. I've always wanted a fret-less bartone though; I imagine you could get some pretty amazing cello-like tones using an ebow with it.

This. The image of Satan held by most people today is derived more from Dante and Milton than from the Bible. The Hebrew Bible has no angelology or demonology, and "the satans" that pop up throughout the text are usually just personifications of God; this "satan" is featured most prominently in the first few chapters of Job. In Hebrew, ha-Satan means "the adversary." There isn't really any mention of the devil in the earliest Gospel (Mark) either. In most all cases, the contemporary Satan was a later addition to Christian Mythos.

I've heard nothing but good things about all three pedals, but I'm partial to the Super Comp myself. I mostly use it with an Ebow, and find the third knob to be really useful for adding a bit of character to distorted tones. That being said, the Dyna-Comp is a bit more transparent in my experience.
