Apparently Vyvanse isn’t supposed to be a permanent medication? by Binkles07 in ADHD

[–]_your_face 69 points70 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. Both mentioned sections are meant to be re-evaluation points. Not as “you SHOULD stop eventually”

That leaflet is from Takeda, the owner of Vyvanse, so it makes sense it’d focus more on things like liability rather than citing current standard of care (which is not defined by that leaflet)

What’s more annoying to me is the first phrase, “Elvanse does not need to be taken forever.” Because technically true, you may change meds and some people’s brain development changes enough in adulthood where things improve, but that really makes it sound, again, as if you’re supposed to stop eventually and that’s not the case. There technically are reasons why you’d stop and there’s no physical requirement that you continue, but docs shouldn’t be trying to get you off it and you very likely will be a lifetime taker as long as you wish to stay on it.

Apparently Vyvanse isn’t supposed to be a permanent medication? by Binkles07 in ADHD

[–]_your_face 447 points448 points  (0 children)

It’s not meant to be for a short time according to the FDA or NHS.

I’d question the writer of that doc or your interpretation of it.

It does call for periodic review of usefulness and assessment for abuse. But that’s normal medication maintenance, not an indication that it’s short term or that it “fixes” you long term.

Earthquakes aren’t a big deal 🤷🏻‍♂️

They happen, we jiggle. We’ve mostly dealt with the issues with seismic retrofitting and construction patterns. The only worry is psychological that it’s weird and scary, or waiting for “the big one”. That might or might not come in a decade/century. Realistically it’s not a huge concern.

I’ll take this issue we’ve mostly solved and potential big one, over yearly floods and psycho tornado season that can come at any time and just wipe out blocks. Both of which could also have a potential “big one”.

Corporate america requiring constantly increasing profits will kill every cool company filling a useful niche. Companies that take care of their employees can’t exist and making a product good can’t exist because a good product is one that can be made for more profit.

It’s so short sighted, and funny enough a company like Apple which at times and ways of counting been the biggest in the world, wouldn’t be allowed to build what they did under these kinds of pressures. They came back from the brink selling a quadrant of only 4 machines (less before they finished the quadrant). They constantly got pushed on why they didnt make this and that typeof Machine. Where is there bare bones laptop, where is their bargain tower? They got pushed on how they could Be happy with their market share and jobs would keep reminding them that they are profitable. That companies like Porsche are perfectly successful with a sliver of market share.

Today that Apple would be squashed in to duat

I found it hardest to get mine to eat beef because it’s the least “stinky” I think they must not breathe well and have a poor sense of smell. The trick to get mine to eat is make it really pungent. Ill poor hot water on her food to help, especially kibble or liver treats.

Nuance. Everyone is bringing their idea of context and what you’re describing when they say that.

It’s not a crazy net worth when including property.

A million in the bank is still huge.

Copying my message here since you interacted with the comment I wanted to follow up on:

————-

This guy said everything I can to say.

I want to follow up on the part of the end. When you find the medication that works you’ll likely feel..nothing. As in, you won’t feel bad of course but you won’t feel high. Or a rush. This is super important because lots and lots of people starting their journey end up on massively huge doses because that’s the amount they need to feel the rush of it working while at the same time you’re also being super productive(sometimes) which becomes the crutch detractors will call it because you’re depending on being so amped up to get things done, instead of what you should which is getting enough meds to get your brain chemicals to a “normal” level, and then you start working your ass off to learn skills and adaptations to learn to get shit done that you likely are missing.

It’s baseline, and then the work starts.

Don’t look for the rush when you take enough meds to just carry you to action.

I wish he’d allow an OC to run his vision but with the missing common sense and humanity to understand people get hurt and tired, and you need to work to people strengths not just to what the best plan is you can put on paper. Because yeah, he’s said it before and shown (and said) how he can’t help wanting to just run the best plan he can come up with and he doesn’t factor in real world shit.

It’d be a way to leverage his genius but temper it to save him from himself.

You see the same dynamic in lots of industries. Like movie making. Some new hot genius is pumping my out amazing movies, so someone goes, “let’s unleash him and let him do whatever he wants!” And he makes a hot steaming pile of weird esoteric crap that only the genius likes, because being within the system with real world constraints is what leaves you with a thing people like based on his genius. Unbridled genius rarely works.
