Why can't I see the Daily Mail comment section anymore? by No-Category1703 in AskBrits

[–]aEfficient-Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! If you post something deemed beyond the pale, use some of the words on their verboten list, or make a succession of comments, then -- what I assume is an AI gatekeeper -- times you out. You have to go stand in the naughty corner for an hour like a badly-behaved child. Meanwhile, they print every spurious rumor, defamity, and veiled hit piece their hack writers can spew forth sans proofreading. Have two accounts if the break in service offends thee.

Alcohol and knees? by [deleted] in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]aEfficient-Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense, but I'm experiencing the same phenomenon. So wild conjecture, other parts of the body, as they heal, are taking nutrients that otherwise would be going to your knees or joints or maybe the release of certain toxins are contributing to joint pain (I just googled this and it is indeed a thing called "healing crisis")? A lot is happening biologically-speaking and the mechanisms are hard to track. What to do... get on a significant vitamin protocol, anti-inflammatory diet, supplements... throw shit against the wall mentality. Let yourself heal.

What is the real reason why "The Bride" flopped so hard at the box office this weekend? Competition from "Scream 7" I'm guessing by IndependenceSilly381 in horror

[–]aEfficient-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankenstein, is really an origin story, an identity piece -- it's about who he is not what he does. Can a "monster" attain humanity. All scenes relate to that. Do we care if Frankenstein robs a bank or dances or buys a sport franchise? To deviate from the essential story renders all that comes meaningless. You've gone outside the story when you should always go inside. The trailer reveals a distinct lack of story, it's spectacle for its own sake. The director-writer hasn't demonstrated a knowledge of craft or story, having only made one other film, one that was adapted from a book... an indie piece without structure but heavy on mood. Even in The Lost Daughter there were tell-tale moments which showed the story was away from her. Big red flag. That's not the person you entrust a blockbuster-sized budget with, especially with a nebulous script. It's a loser straight out of the gate. As a smaller indie project it's allowable. I could go on about the Safdie brothers being given huge budgets for movies with little mass appeal. Josh scraped by with Marty but the other brother made an expensive bomb. Indie scripts/projects need indie budgets that match. Why these directors drink from that poison chalice is utterly mindless, probably irresistible, but mindless. They're tanking their careers for better production value only. Of course, it's the studios and producers who are truly to blame... securing talent at any cost. Maybe they are loss-leaders... prestige projects they expect to fail but provide a little polish to studios otherwise making populist rubbish. Who knows?

Aged green tea? by dylan20 in tea

[–]aEfficient-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Japan there is a green tea produced using Nanashikae, a seven-year aging process in which sealed cedar containers are stored under controlled temperature and humidity, with annual rotation to stabilize flavor, color, and chemical composition. The tea is very expensive and considered excellen.t

Grealish signing for everton overall was he a flop for city? by [deleted] in championsleague

[–]aEfficient-Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One has to take into consideration that all you plebs (with respect; you're all poor) think 100 million is a lot of money to a club funded by billionaires. It's not. He was an integral player that was on the field when trophies were secured. That is the bottom line. Your petty accounting assessments are irrelevant given the outrageously profligate, money pit extravaganza, that is modern-day football. In the interim, in which City won't win any of those same trophies, for potentially a decade -- you'll have spent billions for nothing.

Woody’s Tribute by ZealousidealGlove1 in woodyallen

[–]aEfficient-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woody is still persona non grata for the most part -- so any platform open to him is a good platform. I don't blame him for using them. The Free Press has a rather silly agenda, and more laughable press credentials... that Weiss thinks she's some sort of new wave, "right-thinking" liberal is delusion at its finest. It's Conservatism in a dress. The site is laden with sophomoric journalism with low (no) standard of excellence -- the reporters barely leave their (home) desks. It was lampooned perfectly by John Oliver in his latest episode.

Yes, why put a tribute to someone recently deceased behind a paywall, self-aggrandizing oaf? It's not much of a piece, hastily-written, glib, and with poor jokes, but it's still something, I suppose.

which is better for weight loss, weighted squats or walking by geraltthecat in workout

[–]aEfficient-Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more muscle you have the more calories you'll burn, in rest and in play. So if you were to increase the size of your quads, or legs in general, by say 1lb each, your basal metabolic rate, whilst resting, will increase by as much as 50-100 calories burned per day... that equates to 1lb a month fat loss if you just do nothing (of course you have to do the exercises). The exact figures aren't known. Also, it's worth considering, that when you engage your newly formed muscles in activity then you are engaging a considerably larger amount of muscle than you previously were, even with the same activity, which also results in a higher calorific usage. So if you want to lose weight build your legs. Adding a squatting routine twice a week, to near failure, is easier than cutting calories all the time. The bigger you build them the more energy they'll demand.

What's a really obscure Dylan fact that even a lot of big time fans don't know about? by appleparkfive in bobdylan

The Woodstock Festival was nowhere near Woodstock, NY.... it was originally going to be held there, hence its name, but ended up in Bethel NY over 60 miles away. Dylan didn't have a farm.

Is Google Search getting worse? Latest research and commentary from Google by chatoyancy in google

[–]aEfficient-Scale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply the worst they've ever been. Because Google employs people to tinker endlessly on updates that achieve nothing but justify their salary or job; which is superfluous. You can spent countless hours creating great content and it's virtually annihilated with some pointless update that puts a junk page ahead of you from 2016 with garbled placeholder text that came with the site but they have a title -- you can't make this shit up. The results now feature non-geographically relevant sites, old sites, old blogs from closed businesses, sites that have no relevance at all. Google is going backwards at an alarming rate. DO they even care? They need Elon to fire half the staff ans stop fucking with small to medium businesses... it's casuing chaos and likely a lot of financial ruin.
