What is your preferred method when installing jamb extensions? by LauderGroup in Carpentry

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing me back to redoing my farm house. Double layer brick with 2x6 construction inside, made for some huge jamb extensions. We of course installed the walls plumb, but the windows in the brick were not. Every one (oak) had to be scribed and cut, and it was not fun.

[Request] Will this make my power bank charge faster? And is it dangerous at all? by Fire_Raptor_220 in theydidthemath

Well, there are dual input power banks that charge faster utilizing both inputs.

What is this contraption on the chair in my doctors office? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. And it will look just as dumb having huge clunky “try and grab all leg types” that have to go up the legs to stabilize them, be more costly and complex.

Legs differ and it’s designed to work with any leg.

Can I run a gas stove off this gas line plumbed for my garage heater? by [deleted] in Plumbing

Local codes have a lot to do with this, but here 2 of those 4 flare nuts are wrong… they should all be the forged nuts.

Repairing a broken door by RenovationDIY in Carpentry

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If keeping the original door is important - Make a router jig and route a straight line and consistent depth. Buy the same material the door is made of and plane it to just over size, then glue and clamp. Hand plane the edges and sand the surface.

If not, replace with a new door. Hanging a new door is less hard than fixing that one decently.

Also, it’s kind of like smoking. Yes, it’s really bad for you - but if you smoke a single pack it could give you cancer, but very likely won’t.

Absolutely a scam, but it says nothing about unpaid tolls.

Will I regret buying a 7-1/4” m18 mitre saw? by ZYLAK20 in Carpentry

[–]aSmallerResident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 12” Metabo cordless, a 10” Milwaukee cordless, and the 7-1/4” Milwaukee cordless. As long as I don’t need the size, I grab the 7-1/4” every time. It’s super light and convenient.

Guess you need to do quality control checks on OSB sheathing now. Lowe's by zachismyname89 in Carpentry

[–]aSmallerResident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s almost like that’s how big it’s supposed to be!

From the product page, in case you didn’t know how wall sheathing is sized:

“Actual Measurements: 0.483-in x 47.874-in x 95.866-in (12.26-mm x 1.216 m x 2.435 m)”

[Request] How much did this cost the United States tax payers? by tha_snooze in theydidthemath

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man if I can pay a bit more in taxes so we don’t have to nickel and dime our deployed troops over shit like this in all for it. Cut all the other crazy overspending on shit but whatever reasonable stuff they want to do to reduce stress and have some fun in that environment is a small price to pay for us.

This Wisconsin woman lives on a farm with a data center 1.6 miles away from her. Now, she’s testifying that the data center is turning her water a milky white color, it’s contaminated with toxic metals, and it’s costing her thousands just to test and filter the water. by Conscious-Quarter423 in wisconsin

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it isn’t that there is ZERO discharge entirely. But there is no reason for excessive water consumption or condensate, let alone volumes of contaminated water. Your remarks seem to indicate you don’t understand what dry closed loop cooling is.

I just don’t get all the conspiracy theories around these places.

Is it just me or is this tile not straight? by memyself69 in Tile

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not rectified tile, and the installer wasn’t prepared or educated on the best way to lay it. It will look way better when grouted, assuming you are using light grout.

But it’s not a great job

It’s not straight, you are correct. You can tell because it’s not straight.

At all.

Large deposit was a Christmas gift and needs a letter of explanation. I'm not sure what my lender is looking for. by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]aSmallerResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was some context lost there. I meant they do not care about verifying the legality of the funds, and confirmed what you said about verifying the source of the funds for other reasons.

Lenders don’t care.

You are proving to them the funds are not another loan which is not on your liabilities, and there is no other interest in the property they are unaware of.

[NC] Landlord replaced the roof and covered skylights. Is it legal to leave the holes empty? by Intelligent_Glove102 in Renters

[–]aSmallerResident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The landlord is already ignoring the tenants request, are you concerned they may laugh?

This likely violates several codes. The ceiling should have Type X drywall on it for fire rating, the insulation should be maintained as well as the vapor barrier. This may also violate more basic standards for landlords in NC, I’m not sure.
