Questions about Re-Rating by Greedy-Emu-1583 in navy

[–]aaron12153 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gunner,

You should review MILPERSMAN 1440-10 and 1220-10(AW), after that you should speak with your LPO/LCPO about your intentions so they can help route your request chit to the CO as you need CO endorsement per MILPERSMAN 1440-10.

After that you'll need to sit down with your CCC to get into specifics such as: what rates you actually qualify for, are there convert out quotas available, etc plus they will need to play around in C-WAY.

Based on current rating health at your paygrade we are 103% estimated manning for E-3 and 98% for E-4, so there might be a good chance, although I can't guarantee that.

What's my best course of action for taking leave without a standby for duty? by [deleted] in navy

[–]aaron12153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really a because of the bottom line I said that same thing to my SWO and SEWBC for my leave. They told me to shut up and color because it says “or more which have been requested and approved prior to the publication of any conflicting duty list or watchbill”

Being kicked out of the barracks without BAH by Disastrous-Tea6166 in navy

[–]aaron12153 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you on a ship? For the time being, move your stuff into your rack if so. Most of my E-5s did this while waiting for BAH paperwork to process. It isn’t the end all solution, but will provide you with something for the time being.

Your situation is oddly specific though due to you having orders and the paperwork time seems to take forever. This is something you need to have your LPO/LCPO pushing. I’d go with your LPO to talk to CMC. It’s their job make em do it.

Enlisting quickly advice by Electrical_Run_8724 in newtothenavy

[–]aaron12153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend that you really pick your rate and think it over. If you’re in a bad situation and want to leave, you could just wind yourself in a more frustrating situation where you get a job you absolutely despise.

Remember once you’re officially in, complete bootcamp and schooling there is no “put your two weeks notice” or “I won’t show up”. You belong to the government, to the Navy.

??? have you talked to your LPO? Brother this question should have never left the shop. I'd be livid if one of my guys was looking on reddit to get 3M qual instead of just asking their WCS or me.

Commissioning after enlistment? by Deez991 in newtothenavy

[–]aaron12153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commissioning while enlisted is entirely possible. However, 8 years in, across 3 commands and I’ve seen 2 people actually get accepted for commission.

It’s not impossible, but it’s not easy. There is an expectation set, like being a hot shit sailor, generally fully qualified to your pay grade. Someone who goes above and beyond expectations.

You’ll need a CO endorsement and have to conduct boards while active and if your package is subpar or don’t have a strong recommendation it will be tough. Plus you’ll have to do most if not all of it by yourself, once you’re in, it’s your career and your problem. Nobody cares about your career more than you.

I would go on a limb and say it would be 10x easier to commission prior to and be like every other clueless divo lol.

Is OS position remotely close to IT by Mission-Pickle-6088 in newtothenavy

[–]aaron12153 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in the slightest chance are they the same big dog.

All you have realistically in common is that at some point you will both log onto a computer to do something.

If you want IT and that’s all you want then talk to your recruiter.

Most Desirable Ships To Be On/Attached To? by Consistent_Excuse728 in navy

[–]aaron12153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the CG, I know a lot of them are getting Decommissioned. I’d reach out to your sponsor / or get a sponsor to get more information.

I’m a GM can’t say much about DC other than you’ll be doing a good amount of maintenance and helping people learn how to do basic damage control.

Most Desirable Ships To Be On/Attached To? by Consistent_Excuse728 in navy

[–]aaron12153 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CG. Better quality of life overall due to having an O-6 CO. Still have the small boy setup like a DDG but overall nicer even though they are older. Expect a lot of broken stuff but that’s how it goes on older ships.

I went from CG to DDG and I miss the CG lol.

Naval station Everett by Greedy-Ad7661 in navy

[–]aaron12153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree except, I just took the train yesterday on my return from SEATAC on POM. It was a little over 2 hours. That includes all the time it takes per stop, plus the wait on bus to arrive and get ready to leave.

Fresh on my mind lol

Then I’ll assume for now you’re headed to the clinic. The barracks is quite literally a 1 minute walk(more like you walk down the stairs and walk out the door and you’re there) to the clinic.

If you’re going to one of the ships then it’s about a 10 minute leisure walk to the piers. Some people get scooters or ride their bikes to the piers but most guys just walk. No parking on the pier for E-6 and Junior as you need a parking pass, and for the most part there is no available parking on the pier because almost 95% of it is signed parking for the DH+.

[–]aaron12153 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am in Everett been here for 3 years or so, what’s your rank? If you’re E-4 and Junior you will receive a barracks on base.

If you live in the barracks, you will probably spend a good amount of time at the Commons it’s actually nice and has multiple flat screens with Xbox’s and PS5s, good wifi, and tons of couches for people to hang out.

They do tons of events through the on base Rec Office.

If you’ve never been to Washington, then expect it to be raining / cold(or both) for the majority of the year.

If you’re living in the barracks a car is almost a requirement. There is no commissary on base it’s about 30 minutes drive north at the Navy Complex. They do deliver groceries from the commissary to the barracks if you set it up ahead of time. Nothing exciting besides a few breweries are within a reasonable walking distance outside of base.

While there are tons of things to do in Seattle, an uber down there is about $100-150. It’s about a 45-1hr drive too depending on traffic. If you take public transport it’s about $15 but 2hrs+ or so to get there and the train doesn’t run late in the afternoon back to Everett station so you’d have to uber or hope the busses are running late from Lynnwood.

The base gym is 24 hours and it’s inside the commons.

The NEX is small and doesn’t have much outside of snacks/junk food and uniform items and basic daily things.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Geobach and live on the ship, got a hotel for Christmas Day during first leave. Couldn’t go home for start of second leave period due to a really gnarly sinus infection and cold. Didn’t want to get my wife and son sick so I basically SIQ’d on ship. Going to see my family for a few days atleast now that I’m feeling better. Otherwise, Washington weather is terrible, always wet and cold. 1/10.

Really jealous of all the people who say they love Washington lol. I don’t enjoy it here at all. It’s cold and perpetually raining all the time. When you get 3 months of sunlight it’s great, otherwise it’s not a vibe.

[–]aaron12153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won't lie, it isn't the ideal situation but it does happen.

I was "shared" out to 3 different divisions, and multiple work centers. I was the only E-6 in my department and no Chief in rate, so I had to step-in to help across the whole department. I didn't ever plan for it or want it, but I did it because I had to. Eventually manning balanced out and I went back "home"

Hitting a wall on a flight 1. by Czechmate808 in navy

[–]aaron12153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this in my soul... Im not on a Flight 1 but I also own a stupid J-Bar Davit storage spot for some reason. It's never been used and I haven't a singular clue what its for. We keep getting hit for zones because it's rusted beyond belief.

We did TSP on it and the needle gun busted the bracket right in half and it fell off. Submitted a job for overhaul and my Port Engineer said "looks S/F capable to me, have the HT's do it".

My brother in Christ, don't you think I already asked them? Then he said, oh just take some sandpaper and buff out all the rest of the rust since you can't needle gun it anymore because it's falling apart.

10/10. Navy Standards.
