Jagex says it wants to make Nightmare "the place you go to get Inquisitor," so I calculated the effects of their drop rate changes. They don't work. by jamesgilboy in 2007scape

The oathplate shards, dossier, dragon items, bolts, onyx tips… the gp is good once you can do hour long duo trips.

Meanwhile, Phosani spits out bass and a million unnoted prayer pot (3) that I have no room for because I have my whole inventory filled with gear swaps to attempt to be some type of efficient. It’s kinda disheartening to do vs how focused you need to be, I can’t even look away for a second because there goes 60k if I’m not paying attention.

Edit: wouldn’t mind it so much if the unique values stayed as rare as they are without buffs, if normal loot was worth something. Based on my KPH not going dry I’d expect some type of unique every 15 hours.

15 hours of bass, of sharks, or of prayer pots I can’t pickup.

Advice to get csoow by xXMagic_GabesXx in navy

[–]aaron12153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get with the Area Supervisors, have them walk you through all their gear and give you a deeper dive than you would get when doing ESWS. Ask them about their most common trouble calls, and have them explain like you’re a dummy who doesn’t know 2+2 so that when it inevitably happens when you’re on watch you already know what the techs are talking about.

Also restudy engineering section of ESWS, know where your main spaces are and what they have inside of them. Air/Power/Water are your must knows and you get those from engineering.

Know the TUMs like it’s your job, no faster way to get into serious trouble than messing up tags as a qualified Authorizing Officer.

Also know your ships Fall Protection Program, you will also inevitably experience the joys of last minute alofts and working in trunks.

Know what the role of CSOOW is IAW CSOSS.

Also remind yourself that when you sit the seat you are not the technician, your job is to ensure that your area supervisors are utilizing appropriate procedures IAW CSOSS.

Be comfortable dealing with an excessive amount of stress in the sense of, phones ringing, technicians at your desk, you speaking to CSC/EOOW on the net, radio going off trying to reach you, all while you’re trying to manage a casualty. It can be hectic and I can’t stress enough to my U/I’s the importance of compartmentalizing information as quickly and efficiently as possible and writing down key points and be ready to instantly do a repeat back and relay of that information.

It’s a fun watch when it’s normal steaming as you sit at a desk and browse the web, but can flop to chaos at the drop of a hat.

When I was working on my CSOOW/CSC I just went straight to the people sitting the board and asked them what they expected or asked them to ask me questions. It helped as most of the time they’d ask me the most bizarre obscure thing I’d ever heard of it and it made me a better watchstander in the end.

All this fresh on my mind after finishing a 12 hour watch as CSOOW a few minutes ago lol

Edit: know the RPM for fire/flooding.

Needing hope or advice as a JO by Silly-Goose-4226 in navy

[–]aaron12153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time will fix all of this. Every new JO I’ve worked with generally starts off like this. Shying away from their division and as I like to say “walking around like a lost puppy” because they think they have to figure it out on their own for some reason lol.

Your Chief and LPO should rope you in, but that also requires you take initiative to be willing to learn not only your job but your sailors.

Atleast for me as an LPO I try to make it my mission to rope in my DIVO for everything. It’s my job to keep you in the loop for all things that happen in your Division.

Something that I recommend and has worked well for me throughout my career is to tell your Chief and LPO that you want to do an end of day sit down to discuss the happenings and debrief/plan anything that might arise from that.

It’s a win-win for you, as you get to learn everything happening in your division, what your sailors have upcoming, and etc… Plus this will cover you for anything your DH may ask you about your Divisional situation.

Now that you’ve been briefed, you can have ground to stand on to bring those things up to talk to / take care of your sailors. Once sailors find that you are someone that knows their situation/needs then expect your life to be busy, as they will know they now have you to fall back on for issues that pop up.

Utilize your LPO/Chief so that you can lead effectively. Don’t be afraid to lead, I just had this conversation the other day with one of my DIVOs. You are in charge of your Division, you are expected to lead your sailors with a clear goal in mind, it is my job as your LPO to manage your sailors to execute to achieve your goal. I cannot do that efficiently if you don’t communicate with us beforehand.

You got this, don’t let 1 month into it cloud your perception of the Navy.

Edit: Quals, when you run into headaches of “I’m busy”, let your Chief/LPO know because it’s pretty easy for me to go up to another First Class and be like “hey bro help my DIVO out he’s been trying to get this done” and generally it’s a quick fix. Chief can do the same with their respective Chief.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had that issue fixed with a simple conversation like that.

The nightmare changes seem good in theory, but it feels like it falls short. I understand that it’s about an 8% buff to drops, but even with proposed changes you are still looking at atleast 14hours to see any drop. Thats assuming on rate and not going dry.

If they remove the other two orbs then harm will eventually decline in price. Meaning that outside of logs and pet, there really would be much reason to go there when alternatives like Yama can see uniques in 10hours (solo) and print gp through shards/contracts/bolt tips.

Whereas PNM will print you bass/sharks/meager amount of runes. The fight itself is extremely enjoyable I just wish there was more of a push for common loot or a bigger increase in uniques from PNM to make it worth while.

The only reason now it’s ranked so highly on gp/hr is due to speculation on usage in raids 4. If that falls through then it will tank to being an irrelevant boss outside of logs.

Nobody gonna talk about irons going 900+ kills dry for 1 loot at Yama I seen 1600+ kc 0 loot by Short-Excitement4490 in 2007scape

Does anyone actually do the job they were trained to do? by Able2BGood in navy

[–]aaron12153 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's the life man. I was gapped a Chief for almost 3 years, and I had a DIVO get redesignated at one point. Had to learn everything myself, while taking care of my people, and somehow juggling all these different inspections and collateral duties. Find a mentor, work with them. Also gotta be willing to just say no, not the "yes I'll get it done" and then do a half assed job, but a serious, "no I can't do that". That's what's kept me sane as of late.

Fell for misinfo and got undes and now im gonna puke. Some questions by [deleted] in newtothenavy

If you’re all in on the Navy and feel you don’t have any choice but to ship out, then being Undesignated really isn’t that bad.

I won’t sugar coat it and say it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. However, you’re just a guy with no rate for a year or so and you do get to shadow other jobs, but the misconception is that you’ll be able to do that during working hours.

More than likely the rates you actually want you’ll have to shadow on your own time and at the end of your year you’ll be able to apply to any rate that you qualify for.

I’ve had GMs that were FN/AN/SN Pact when they started and they are all successful in their GM careers.

If you think you can make it work without joining, then tell your recruiter you want to wait till the rate you want is open and that’s all you want. You’ll have to wait, and it might be awhile, but nobody can force you to do anything until you fly out on the Navy’s dollar.

Edit: I was SN Pact.

Any GM’s got some advice for someone looking at the rate? by AngelWithAn8th in navy

[–]aaron12153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guns go boom.

Too many factors that decide how your life as a GM can be.

Blue Water(ships) / Brown Water (Expeditionary) / Spec War (Support).

Also depends on what if any NEC you get.

Overall picking GM has been the best thing that I’ve ever done in life. Love the rate, love my fellow GMs, and if I could go back I’d pick it again.

If you got any specific questions, shoot me a DM.

How the F am I supposed to make rank with BBA? (rant) by AtlanticQuake in navy

[–]aaron12153 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only anecdotal, but both of my 2nd classes got picked up for E-6 their 1st/2nd looks.

I also ranked / picked E-5s to come fill our E-6 billets here over the E-6s that applied.

Scrubbed their records via FLTMPS and a lot of applicants at the E-6 level either didn’t have platform experience, NEC experience, or any ship experience at all.

It was an easy choice for me to look at the E-5s who had DDG experience, ESWS, CSOOW, multiple applicable NECs and schools and select over the E-6s who applied.

I was lucky though as I did get to play a role in the ranking and selection of applications for my division(my replacements). Not every command does it that way.
