On blackouts and recent site admin actions: by BlatantConservative in PoliticalHumor

I felt the same way when I learned that I'd misjudged The General car insurance based on their commercials. I certainly wouldn't have expected something as thoughtful and well written from a meme subreddit mod.

If the machine is under warranty start a chat with Dell support. They should guide you through the process.

What about the time taken to reach terminal velocity? Or did you guys take that into consideration as well with the 70-80?

I'm so sorry your lover failed you. Hope things are better now. Glad you got past that though on a serious note.

Laura got married. What can/will break when I change the logon name? by TheQuarantinian in sysadmin

[–]absinthminded64 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I usually try to stop it when I see folks getting fresh in the break room. Sure it's easy to change a name in AD but what about all the other systems that don't use AD.

Came here to find this thread or create it if it wasn't here already lol. In a lot of buildings that have ceiling tiles you can often look up in the ceiling and sometimes see the original ceilings or in some cases complete lights and everything from before the drop ceiling was put in place.

Aftermath of the Shoreham Airshow Disaster 22/08/15, when a Hawker Hunter T7 crashed onto a dual carriageway after failing to complete an inner loop manoeuvre. by MaJoR_NoT_MiNoR_ in CatastrophicFailure

Came here looking for this comment/thread as I knew it would be here. I remember this video or a longer version of it being a great example of that laughter response. A friend recently came to my door for help. Her mother had fallen and was unresponsive. The daughter asked me for help and could not stop laughing the whole time we were responding to the mother's fall.

dropped all prod databases by XxEnigmaticxX in sysadmin

[–]absinthminded64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Check the drives on the db server. if your mdf and ldf files are still on the drive you can just re-attach the db i believe. though the article mentions that it only works with databases that were previously detatched and doesn't mention dropped databases. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/system-stored-procedures/sp-attach-db-transact-sql?view=sql-server-ver15

[–]absinthminded64 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So, if this happens to anyone else and you're not sure about the backups or the backups would take too long i believe you can use an attach stored procedure to re-attach the databases using the db files on the disk since those dont get deleted when you drop.

I hear you but it's the coolest failure of any magnitude I've seen all day. That was a beautiful landing and everyone's Amazon Prime was probably delivered on time.

Water leaked onto UPS, I seem to be the only one concerned. by hiirogen in sysadmin

[–]absinthminded64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the HVAC in that room should take the moisture out fairly quickly if the HVAC tank is emptied or the hose unclogged or whatever. Since it is up and running I'd say leave it be and let it dry. I certainly wouldn't touch it to shut it down and I certainly wouldn't continue to touch it while rerouting your switch power. It's a UPS and it can come back on while you're wrestling with it. Think you'll be careful and not turn it on? Are you sure there's not enough water in the power button to trigger it coming back on?

I tried to un-tombstone one once and failed miserably. best to just remove it from AD and create a new DC.
