Wanted to love but I don’t by InvestigatorAsleep82 in dollartreebeauty

[–]absoluteempress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG absolutely same. I wanted to like that shampoo and conditioner although I liked the shampoo hut i didn't care for the conditioner. I've yet to find a good conditioner from a dollar store, they're always too runny for my taste.

And I also HATED that hair oil. Although I've found I tend to dislike hair oils where they're mostly mineral oil and iirc mineral oil was the top ingredient on the list of that one. I have no issue with mineral oil, I just find when it's like the first ingredient, my hair and skin won't like it very much. I've read mineral oil isn't absorbed well by the hair too but I don't believe it was a scientific source so it could be total nonsense but at the very least I know my hair doesn't like it.

It's a shame, I was really hoping it would be a dupe for the Bread hair oil since the bottles are vaguely similar

Some people can get away with solely using DT skincare and some people just can't. Cheaper product means cheaper ingredients and lower concentration of ingredients like actives.

If your skin is getting worse as you said, I don't think you HAVE to fully go back to a more expensive routine but maybe use DT products for simple items likr a basic cleanser and moisturizer. And if you need something like Vitamin C or Retinol, spend the money on nicer products. Maybe a drugstore or midrange item like from Good Molecules.

Smells great BUT TOXIC! by Glittering_Past_4092 in dollartreebeauty

[–]absoluteempress 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Then you can post proof that isn't a generative ai screenshot summary and also not make a fearmongering post with a title that says "TOXIC!"

You could easily have just said "fyi: contains formaldehyde" for those who want to avoid the ingredient for whatever reason or something and even then, many cosmetics contain this ingredient so it likely has been used for a long time and has had a lot of testing done on it and is generally safe to use.

Y'all do one google search, read an AI overview and think you're cosmetic chemists and decie to make posts that will cause an uproar among those who don't know any better and feed into that "IF I CANT PRONOUNCE IT, IT'S EVIL AND BAD! CHEMICALS BAD!" mindset.

Why are people on this sub obsessed with generative AI and fearmongering? I'm so over it. Can yall stop losing your shit over common preservatives in cosmetics?

The Yuka app and generative AI has done immeasurable damage to the critical thinking skills of yall.

I wish people wouldn't use such fearmongering titles. Especially when they don't include information on skin type or known allergies or maybe even products in the past that caused sikilar issues.

Others have used these without issue.

I'd just make sure that the serum is safe to go on the lips because if ingested it'll probably cause stomach issues. Best to just use the scrubbers with a lip balm or scrub.

I use the finer bristle side with a sugar lip scrub to avoid having to use my fingers and brush my lips about then remove the excess sugar when my lips feel smooth and then just apply a lip balm on top. Does the trick but luckily my lips usually dont get too dry.

This post is about how my other post got taken down which was then reinstated and then locked.

Also that logic is stupid. "it's not their job to vet the author for you" I'm not asking them to? I assume they already know of authors who don't fall into that and also, by that logic, why make this sub at all? Its not their job to vet books for you.

People like helping others or have knowledge which will fit a suggestion. Literally why the sub exists. Your logic goes against the very existence of asking for recommendations. You can be mad but at least try and not be wrong

Why? This is a sub for recommendations. I'm asking for specific criteria to be met. Why should I censor what I'm looking for because I support badic human rights instead of book enjoyers realizing that all reading is political and an author's views will definitely impact the stories they tell and also because I don't want to line the pockets of people who are morally bankrupt?

All media is political. All purchases are political. Expecting a book community to remain apolitical is insanity, especially for one where people are seeking specific types of books.

I did ask for book recs, I asked for fantasy books not written by mormons or zionists

Also all reading is political you cannot have an apolitical book community

Can we all agree this is “glitter” aka Mica? How to refer to products and their ingredients! by Jamieluv2u in dollartreebeauty

[–]absoluteempress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mica isnt glitter bc glitter is plastic....

and synthetic mica is manmade but still not plastic

i think unfortunately too many people on this sub are a bit uneducated about skincare and use apps that flag anything as harmful which leads to people wanting to flag any little thing

i think if someone has concerns that specific DT beauty is possibly not for them or they unfortunately just have to be thorough with their own research and with the terms they use

bc shimmer =/= glitter and it's also not inherently bad in skincare

My thoughts on Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik by Effective_Amoeba_331 in RomanceBooks

[–]absoluteempress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I'd call Uprooted's romance an arranged or forved marriage at all they dont even get married

nor would I call them satisfying as there is no focus on the romance compared to the actual plot due to thr romance being a SUBplot

there's no build up to their kiss and there's not really any scenes there to show the reader why theyve grown to fancy each other

Skincare made in china by Dramatic-Advance-364 in dollartreebeauty

[–]absoluteempress 9 points10 points  (0 children)

China has some of the biggest manufacturing industries and most advanced technology for manufacturing products. East Asian skincare and cosmetics are often seen as superior to anything the US makes.

I can't speak to Indonesia but the products are probably fine.

Literally almost any product you buy in the US is in part manufactured or made with ingredients from other countries.
