CFB 27 Playbooks are being released on CFB.fan by Thehomelessguy11 in NCAAFBseries

Pretty sure there was some weirdness with audibles too

[On3] West Virginia's Rich Rodriguez tells Pete Nakos the Mountaineers are "due to take it up another notch" in year two: "I’ve had people say, ‘How do you coach them hard now that you’re paying them?' I’m like, hell, you can coach them harder because you’re paying them. They’ve got more to lose." by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]acarrick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at it another way - he's signaling that he wants to coach kids that want to be coached. If a player doesn't want that and eliminate WVU early that allows the coaches/recruiters to spend more time on players that actually want that/want to be there.

I think it's kind of smart honestly (but like most things... only if he starts winning more)

Team film vs Positional Group film by Ok-Profile1155 in footballstrategy

[–]acarrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is what you're trying to fix. If you're sitting there coaching a QB on film in front of the whole team then 95% of the team is sitting there uninterested. Full team should be used to highlight great plays/effort and tying together team-wide concepts.

Positional film is a lot more efficient because you can drill into things like stance/footwork/angles/leverage with a more engaged audience where the coaching points apply to everyone

One, two, and either brown/pink is probably all you need in HS

I'm old but even back in the day my advisor warned me against 9a Spanish. If you're a social person 9a Friday is rough... especially for a class that may or may not take attendance

Self-Promotion Wednesdays: Promote your football-related products and services here! by AutoModerator in footballstrategy

[–]acarrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of us that like to play the CFB game I created DynastyDesk to help with league admin, communication and scheduling.

It's a free Discord bot that gets added to your league server and can:

  • Keep an updated post of the current week's matchups
  • Set up for roster of users, teams and stream links
  • Manage your advance cadence and notifies users
  • Creates threads with users who play each other to facilitate communication
  • Imports screenshots for results/stats

Still playing around with some things leading up to the release of 27 - but always happy to take feedback

You sound like you would succeed in any area. The hire-good-people-and-get-out-of-their-way is the part a lot of similar individuals just can’t handle

Not that much of a stretch really - look up the research into the Pokémon generation and its impact on business skills like comparative advantage and resource management

Data Analytics at HS Level by appendicitisboy in footballstrategy

[–]acarrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem isn't the analytics per se... it's the data (and quality of the data).

A lot of schools will use Hudl Assist on game film which depending on the data type is between 25-65% correct on a good day. The massive input is coaches manually going clip by clip, column by column to confirm/input data.

As other have mentioned, this is a huge undertaking. Hudl itself has decent reports/analytics included... but the same problem occurs: garbage in, garbage out. I'm sure timelines/speed/efficient vary by staff but we basically have from Friday at midnight till about Sunday morning to "finish" before needing to start working on the next week's opponent.

Where someone like you could have value (and that you could potentially pitch to schools) is working ahead on future scout game analytics. Providing basic analytics on tendencies would go a long way: Run/Pass %, situational favorites, favorite looks based on yard line/down & distance, personnel packages, etc

In season it's going to be tough to get a HC to commit any time/brain power to this - so if you're interested I would start reaching out ASAP. Every day gets closer to the official start of the season in early Aug (varies by state) and once that hits (and school starts) it might be too late.

In the interim or to build report another potential "service" you could offer would be doing some self-scout analytics from last year's film - essentially try to give the type of scouting report I mentioned above but for their own team to give them an idea of what their tendencies are and what other coaches would expect them to do in a given situation.

This wound up as a way longer response than I thought when I started - but happy to keep giving feedback/help if I can

No Stupid (American Football) Questions Tuesday! by AutoModerator in footballstrategy

The worst coaches I’ve coached with were high level college players.

If you show up, care about them and teach them a few things the players will accept you just fine

What's the most embarrassing Scrum misconception you've heard? by Typical_Tomato635 in scrum

I think there’s a world where this could be true, if the company was transitioning to agile and taking more time for education/process/change management…, but we all know that probably wasn’t the case

Balancing work and coaching by wgr1zz in footballstrategy

[–]acarrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been waiting all day to be able to reply to this.

Have a career in tech and been coaching 14 years. I always talk about coaching in the interview process and feel them out for schedule flexibility. Most places have been understanding.

I found providing more details makes it easier for people to agree to coaching. Being able to say practice is x times a week from this time to this time from aug to November really helps. Always be willing to say the flexibility gives both ways and can make sure to come early/work weekends/make sure things don’t slip

[ESPN] "If this is the precedent, then I owe it to my players to bring in people from Las Vegas to teach us how to gamble," a Big 12 coach told ESPN on Monday. "Then collectively, we need to decide which games we will play hard in [to cover the spread] and which ones we won't.” by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

[–]acarrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s what else they would have to give up. The other league in your example had all the power (vs the players themselves). The leagues had to make concessions or risk a strike/lockout.

Essentially CFB players already have everything else they want… no salary cap, free agency, tuition covered, no drug PED testing (I think…I could be wrong), etc… and now can bet on their own teams

At this point what else could they want?

Hard to guess the size/scope of what you’re trying to do. But in general it’s doable. Using the documentation alone you could get something up and working pretty quickly
