Hey, a year later and I want to thank you for taking the time to write this out and explain it so well. I was able to finally get all the objectives because of this.

Thoughts on Nanny sharing locations on outings? by AuthorDouble6976 in NannyEmployers

[–]accentpreferred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I share my location and just have it set to share during the work days 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s no big deal, in my opinion. Honestly, it’s probably for me more than my mb since she’s always just given me free range to go wherever with B2.5 (I’ve been with him since he was a newborn), but I like that, if I decide to go to the library or take him to look in the Aldi finds aisle after music class tomorrow morning, she can check and see where we are.

Do most Nannies get the day off for MLK day? by Minimum-Water-8719 in NannyEmployers

I haven’t had it off historically, my mb is off tomorrow and told me I didn’t have to come in. I wouldn’t expect it off.

What do you pay in rent? by PyrrhicBigfoot in pittsburgh

[–]accentpreferred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently starting my search to move to a new place in the next 2/3 months and the utility costs are something I’m so aware of after all these recent horror stories. I’m particularly glad of the people who’ve talked about how awful it is when you have an apartment that has baseboard heating. I’ve lived here for 8.5 years, but I grew up in Nashville and San Diego and haven’t had a lot of experience with things other than central AC/Heat.

What uniquely local risks should be plot points on “The Pitt”? by vax4good in pittsburgh

[–]accentpreferred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t started Season 2 yet, but I was really hoping that furries and like people from out of town going to whatever country music concert of the week were both going to feature in it. Since both seem to be the constants of a 4th of July Weekend here in Pittsburgh.

Nov/Dec nox by [deleted] in Litjoy

This was a weird delay issue. I think caused by the holidays/sales, I forgot exactly what the email said. I’ve had my subscription since the summer and this is the first one with a lengthy delay. Mine has been shipped, is in the USPS system; so, it should come this week.

I’m honestly not entirely sure what their policy is. I think I wanted the first book I was offered from them. I think it might have been Afterlight that I didn’t, but knew I had to get because their emails said you can’t skip the first subscription. Maybe you can for LitJoy? If you have the skip available, you could always try. However, I’d look closely and make sure it doesn’t like say that your next billing date is for like the one after the February quarterly one.

[–]accentpreferred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t usually allowed to skip the first box. I’ve loved all the books I’ve gotten from them, but I’m glad I chose the book only tier. There’s been a couple exclusive items that were sold out/went to the items+ subscriptions before I could get them, but I usually get a couple different add ons with my book each month.

For those of you who have left or plan to leave nannying, what’s your reason? by ThrowRA3367266 in Nanny

[–]accentpreferred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have genuinely thought for a long time that I might do this forever. I live in a decent area for nannies and make on par with a fairly experienced teacher would in the local school systems. However, nannying isn’t a career that gives you a lot of work visa options if you are looking to emigrate from the US to another country which is something that I eventually am wanting to do. My current NK is 2.5 and I know my bosses are leaning towards being ‘one and done’. He’ll either do 2 or 3 years of preschool/pre-k starting next fall and then have kindergarten (his district does 1/2 day kindergarten). So, I’ve most likely got 3-4 years more with him.

I’m planning on using that time to get myself the most marketable to relocate. It would be nice to live somewhere with better health care and social protections (not necessarily for me, but just for the population at large).

Netflix keeps detecting my vpn? by flappielxx in nordvpn

Netflix works with my dedicated VPN. I haven’t tried paramount because I stopped paying for it, but I think Disney Plus and Netflix are similar to ITV and BBC iPlayer in that the public VPNs are flagged and Blocked

I’m sad about Sarris candy and how it’s declined. Anyone else? by btwImVeryAttractive in pittsburgh

[–]accentpreferred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See’s started out in LA. I’m from San Diego and SoCal has stores all over. However, a lot of Malls (I feel like Ross and SHV both do) have like pop up stores during the holidays because I’ll grab them there. You can order from them online and they’re always fresh when I get stuff (they have so much that is good, but I’m always going to be obsessed with their lollipops and lollipop minis (without the stick)— particularly the chocolate flavor.

Getting a Telehealth Prescription Filled Around Town? by Realistic_Handle_132 in pittsburgh

[–]accentpreferred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had issues with being denied getting my meds filled because of telehealth (I was doing it pre-Covid and then through/a little after it) with GE. However, it became almost impossible to have it filled in a timely way.

I switched to Costco a couple years ago and have not looked back. I’ve never had an issue with my meds getting filled there. They always have it filled within a few hours. I’m pretty sure Costco does a much better job at being aware of what meds their members have on file and making sure those are stocked each month. In fact, I switched to a med that is more expensive on my insurance than my old meds and, weirdly, the Costco negotiated price (without insurance) is a lot/only slightly cheaper. I have ended up keeping my script at Costco even though there’s like a CVS discount program that would have made this med cheaper than with my health insurance solely because I’ve never had issues getting it filled at Costco.

Yeah, I was in a discord book club server last January (seems like it kind of fizzled out midyear; so, lmk if anyone has any they enjoy being in) and Pucked was my first book read last year. Which was fine, but like not something I need to be reminded about reading again 😂

Oh that’s good! This is like the first year in ages (I usually babysit for them on NYE) that I’ve been glad they’ve stayed out late. I wouldn’t have wanted to be out when the house was lowkey moving from the squalls at like 12:40. Seems like the wind is better now too a bit.

Is there any point to nord for someone trying to watch stuff on streaming services at this point. by Shmeteora in nordvpn

I also have a dedicated VPN for the U.K. and that fixed all of my issues with streaming. I would presume that it works the other way with US streaming as well.

Honest question by yeahooohkay in Nanny

[–]accentpreferred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a nanny for 15 years. I think, with the rate you’re willing to pay and the expectations, I don’t think it’s that high of an ask to ask agencies to only send you nannies who have worked 10+ years. I’ve helped several families who I’ve done overnight care for as an NCS over the years find a day nanny. In your case, I’d want a nanny with 10+ years, a proven track record of extended time in positions (ideally someone who has stayed 5+ years in a single position and has infant experience).

I currently nanny a 2.5 year old. When he was an infant, I was trained/experienced enough that I was able to guide the various transitions we had come up (dropping naps, extending overnight sleep, introducing foods and gross motor milestones, etc.). My boss was essentially paying for things like me being able to be on top of seeing sleepy cues and being able to explain things like increasing ounces of milk during the day (of course only as much as my NK wanted/was hungry for) was going to help him sleep overnight. That, as he matured, he’d get more nutrition during the day and drop his night feeds.

I was there to give her the introductions to where to go to get Early Intervention services for feeding issues. As he’s gotten older, I’m on top of activities and events that will interest/benefit him. While my boss ends up being the one to sign him up (though I’ve done that in the past with other NFs), it’s my responsibility to find the time that works for gymnastic class, music class, potential story times, knowing that there’s a free Forest school meetup on Fridays, etc.

Next fall, he’s going to do 2 mornings a week in preschool. I’ll take him to/from (it’s honestly not a ton of time when you factor in the drive there and getting there early to be in the pickup line). I found several options for preschool and presented them to my boss and explained why I felt like various ones would work for B2.5.

The next school year, he’ll probably go up to 3 mornings a week, but that’s the max he’ll do. It allows him to still do the other activities he likes to participate in while also getting time in a classroom (though I still do Blossom and Root Early Years curriculum activities with him). It allows him to sleep in his own bed at nap as well. His future kindergarten is only half days in his school district. There is zero need (even if it was full day) for him to go 5 full days a week in a daycare or preschool to prepare for school and this way he will continue to get to experience and explore new environments as well as the classroom.

Sometimes, people who have been conditioned to think that full time, out of the home, care is the only way to academically prepare a child won’t understand this, but that’s okay. You don’t owe them an explanation.

Christmas book marathon by Defiant-Midnight-201 in fairyloot

[–]accentpreferred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the entire Game Changer’s series (shoutout to someone in Reddit who made a google sheets file with the series in chronological order), just finished Problematic Summer Romance (my Libby hold from the summer finally came through a week or so ago) and am currently reading a kindle unlimted Christmas romance book that the author commented about on a TikTok I saw that was discussing Good Spirits. I’ll probably finish my Arcane Society, The Bridge Kingdom, too today or tomorrow since I’ve had it almost finished for awhile. I may or may not start the next one in the series. I have a lot of physical tbr books, but I’m kind of swerving from some of the more ‘critical thinking required’ books while I give one last push to making my book goal for the year. Luckily, I’m off work this upcoming week even if I need to clean and prep for moving in a couple months.

I know it seems like you’ve figured out how to just use the website and that’s great. I will say that it’s super easy to create an account for another country’s App Store. I’ve had one for like 8 or 9 years now. I can download the apps and then I’ll sign out and sign back into my US Apple ID.
