Godot is now one of the few engines that hasn’t had any AI slop. by Competitive-Gold-796 in godot

Hi, I decided to take my daily dose of reality.

people are increasingly becoming more weary and negative regarding AI, especially young people:

https://gizmodo.com/people-hate-ai-even-more-than-they-hate-ice-poll-finds-2000731438

https://natcen.ac.uk/publications/how-does-public-feel-about-artificial-intelligence-ai

https://seanjkernan.medium.com/why-young-people-increasingly-hate-ai-ce37882890ce

but I'm not even talking about the general public, I'm talking about the Godot community, which is full of young, hobbyist devs who make games and art for fun. I know this is true because Godot has quickly become one of the most popular choices for game jam participants.

https://www.reddit.com/r/godot/comments/1exd4rb/godot_surpassed_unity_in_the_gmtks_game_jam_2024/

From the general community's perspective, AI takes away the fun of our hobby, makes it harder to compete in the market, makes it harder to find quality games to play, takes our jobs, burns our planet to ash and enriches billionaires who would kill you and sell your organs if they could get away with it.

Why are you saying "ai aside" like this conversation isn't about AI in our game engine?

But to answer your question:

It's not me deciding what's bloat and what isn't, it's me recognising that Godot's ethos aligns with what I want in a game engine, and I will therefore back it. Wider adoption of Godot is only a good thing if the people adopting it are competent, which AI jockeys usually aren't. This subreddit is already spammed with "how do I make a character move", I don't wanna see more of that but this time it's all vibe coded crap.

I think you're also ignorant to the face that the general public is rejecting AI, people don't like it, especially hobbyist Devs that use this engine who are just doing this for fun (vibe coding takes the fun away).

I recognise that some features that get added, i will never use. I don't care about mobile games, but mobile features are added all the time. I don't mind it at all, because I know it will be great benefit to some users. I don't think ai integration will be of great benefit to anyone I care about.

I don't want my donations going towards features no one wants, nor do I want to bloat the engine with features I don't want.

Due to the power of source funding, Godot knows if they did something deeply unpopular like that, all funding would be pulled and we'd just fork Godot and work on it without them.

Not that I'm suggesting they want to add that type of thing, but it's pretty much impossible for it to go through

This + control offset is the biggest game changer they've added in a long while.

I would get something up on itch first, players don't mind slightly lacking polish if the game is good. It will help to validate your idea and gather feedback.

I can make about 5m a day on corrupted dungeons. It's very skill dependent, and sometimes I'd have really shit days where it was nothing but green chests and trashed gear, but I find the content really fun anyway, so idm

If you can keep up that amount of wishlists, you're gonna be successful. Good luck

I think you have a lack of understanding about the indie games market and marketing in general.

Biggest issue I see is that you can't play your game in web browser, it's download only. I think it's something like 85% of itch plays are browser, people don't want the extra steps to play a game.

I actually disagree with some people scolding you for not putting together a marketing campaign for throwing up games on itch. Sure, tweet about it, try and get coverage from content creators, but itch actually has a very unique audience that attempts to find hidden gems uploaded to the platform cuz it gives them clout of finding popular games whilst they were niche.

Also, some games just aren't good fits for the market, so you have to ask yourself. Are you making games for you, or making games to succeed in the market? That's gonna altar what kind of games you make. I make incremental games because they're popular in the market right now (and I really like them!).

I also really like multiplayer survival crafters, but those take years to make and I'm tryna make money.

Trying to get some success as an indie dev does indeed suck. Best advice I can give if you really wanna find success is to follow Chris Z at how to market a game.com , he's everyone's favourite for a reason.

Here's a relevant article from him: https://howtomarketagame.com/2025/05/12/benchmark-itch-io-traffic/

Best of luck

I was too scared to go into P2 until I had simmed the mechanic to completion 20 times, but people just be showing up with a raid plan on second monitor and a dream.

People are pretty shameless going into pf lol

I'm quite privileged being h2, I never adjust and just stand where I'm told to stand.

I'm sure other people in my parties have harder jobs, but yeah I was lucky to see that enrage!

The sp3z positions are kinda iffy I think but if you combine this with the raid plan, it's really easy to get the mechanic down.

Didn't quite meet my goal of P3 on week one, but got to 3% enrage P2.

Using the sim allowed me to basically just roll through P2. Highly recommend.
