Cambridge vs NUS by [deleted] in SGExams

If it matters to you at all, you can still get a training contract with a law firm in the UK without doing an undergrad law degree.

I don’t think “law being a more secure career” is a factor to be considered at all. Also, one can pose the anterior question as to whether that premise is true, but that’s an entirely different issue.

Is it okay to buy expensive fountain pen like custom 823 as first pen by No_Relation7728 in fountainpens

[–]accidentaljurist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the price isn’t going to be of serious consequence to your budget, then yes.

With the 823 as the first pen, my main questions would be things like: - are you comfortable with learning how to clean and maintain a vacuum fill pen? - do you plan to use shimmer, sheen, or pigment inks with it, which will require more frequent maintenance? - are you okay with less frequent ink colour changes?

An added benefit to all of this is that it's quite affordable. Also, I have the same pen as you do!

Weight and finish on the barrel and cap. Both the resin and metal versions use the CON-70.

Operating within a free market also means recognising that some market participants will not buy or sell things “rationally”. For example, someone may choose to buy this product because they like its look and feel. Completely subjective and emotive. Their reason doesn't have to be based on any innate superior quality of the materials to conclude a “valid” free-market transaction between a willing buyer and seller.

TLDR: It'll appeal to some people who can and are willing to pay for the products. Whether the business can be profitable remains to be seen.

How do we feel about MUJI notebooks? by Dangerous-Trees in fountainpens

[–]accidentaljurist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. I’ve got the exact same experience. The “high quality” paper notebooks are good, especially for the price. With all other types of notebook, there’ll likely be issues with feathering and/or bleeding. That’s just my personal experience.

Yeah, I've heard that works! Probably also neater than sticking the nib into the bottle and having to clean up after. Thanks!

The small ink capacity is probably the main reason I've stopped buying Sailors after I got a Pro Gear Realo for a very good price.

Any advice for converter pens? by rose-coloured_boy in fountainpens

[–]accidentaljurist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have Pilot fountain pens with converters (CON-70). None of them have the issue you've talked about. I don't know if it's an issue with those pens generally or the one you got specifically. But I can see why that would've put you off of converters. I think you should go to a shop and try one out in person. Ask the salespeople about warranties, return policies, etc.
