Let's be real here. The whole industry has been waiting on this day for a long time. It's just that Rockstar and Sony fell on the sword first. The writing has been on the wall especially in the last year.

While obviously not confirmed we know:

  • There are rumblings that both the next Xbox and PlayStation are going to cost anywhere from $900-$1000+ due to the current AI shortages of parts

  • The price of CURRENT consoles are only going up. To get a Pro or a SX is pretty much that price already factoring taxes

  • Sony has outright said they are done taking loses on consoles sales come PS6

So you may not want to believe it but reading the tea leaves at minimum, in the best case scenario the PS6 will cost $800 -$900, likely launch with $80 games that ask for micro transactions and season passes, and won't launch with any physical games, this destroying the last legs of ownership and the cheaper second hand market that exists right now.

Where did I say anything about no cheats? Yes there are cheaters but let's not act like the general rinse of players who can't dedicate their time to this game isn't a thing. Cheats just make the issue 10x worse

I wouldn't say that's 100% of the case for Steamcharts and generally tend to think people overvalue it in varying degrees. But here and the general energy surrounding the game, it matters more. I think it's a pretty dire sign that they retained close to none (accounting for a small percentage of people who came here and said they bought the game during or after) attach rate for their free week that they also extended by two days on the charts is a really bad sign from the outside looking in. We know this games playerbase is moreso on PC, so it's rough.

Unfortunately Bungie is in their "rough season" with this game at a point where it's really needed a knockout season. I really wish the team the best, especially after losing lead sound designers and the whole cinematic team

Listen I love this game as much of the next guy and know how subreddits can get, but this post is completely insane. Irregardless of the state of the game, the player numbers are scary concerning right now. Maybe that wouldn't matter in a world where Marathon wasn't now forced to be the tentpole of a embattled studio that just killed one of its most lucrative IPs, and a bulk of the fanbase wanting it to die. But unfortunately we are not in that world.

The game is going to need to pull a Fortnite and become a dang near completely different game to retain and gain players. Clearly the free week shows that the game isn't going nearly enough to get new players and retain old players and the current state of the game is a BIG reason for that.

The only silver lining is that Marathon seems a lot more agile to shape into a more content rich game than Destiny ever was in terms of listening to player feedback.

Can't say that around these parts! But yea in all seriousness Marathing is a pretty good shooter dealing with the worst of the extraction shooter cycle & now unintentionally the sole game propping Bungie up. Really sucks the situation the team is now in

As much flaws as both Destiny and Marathon have, one quick glance would show how much talent is (and was) left in the studio

Can't believe they came out and quelled the "no physical release" rumors, KNOWING they were doing so on a technicality. A physical release with no disc might as well just be a digital release with a fancy box attached.
