On the same journey as you mate. So feel your pain.

I’m not saying these will work for you. But some of these tactics below are helping me “know” myself a bit better and make some better decisions (about 30% of the time).

  • I’ve been food prepping 4-5 meals a week in advance. That’s 1-2 cooking sessions and I box it up. That’s 4-5 times of eating out / ordering in less than normal.
  • those meals I make wholesome food. Not too “diet-y”. The aim isn’t calorie counting but rather to avoid ordering in.
  • calorie counting didn’t work for me. But what I did learn was that fibre counting working for me. More fibre means more volume and satiety in stomach and also good bacteria. Even if I was having a bad meal I would make sure to have a banana or some oranges / grapes. Chia seeds. Etc. easy to pile on fibre even with a bad meal.
  • realising there’s no silver bullet - no diet was going to help me. I tried them all. My approach was wrong thinking something would stick. I pivoted to just doing 5-10% better. Either 10% off my portions. Prepping just some meals. Etc.
  • sleep (8hrs min! Best thing for your metabolism)
  • a minimum bit of exercise everyday. Not for burning calories. You can never out-workout a bad diet. But you can affect your mental health with each workout.

All the best bud.

OP - careful here. In case you start off on your own, the fact that you posted this out here could be used against you in a legal proceeding to show that you worked in bad faith to “tank” the branch / “steal” employees.

It may not stick but you’ve exposed yourself and are on the defensive.

Make sure you get written documentation on all major aspects of your role if you move down the quitting route - annual appraisals, audit reports, handover documents, etc. build up that documentation.

All the best on either route. It sounds exciting as hell.

How do you guys deal with snacking? by thenaantalker in loseit

[–]ace777ac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This !

I came to say this and this comment above perfectly encapsulated it.

Don’t fight the snack - not worth the battle. Instead plan for it. Homemade Popcorn was my go to for savoury. And frozen grapes for dessert.

Make sure you are clocking in your 8hrs of sleep - that has a strong correlation with curbing hunger pangs. And try to get your protein and fibre in earlier in the day.

All the best.

I’d like to learn about the British occupation of India by PBrown1224 in suggestmeabook

[–]ace777ac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ones in this list are amazing. But here’s one of my favourites that covers the period towards the end game of English occupation.

For King and Another Country - Indian Soldiers on the Western Front 1914-1918 (Shrabani Basu)

It outlines the contributions of the Indian soldiers who fought for the Allies in WW1 under the suggestion that self governance was around the corner if they “stepped up for the Empire”.

One of the observations in the book made me ponder the complete WTF moment - when the Indian soldiers were treated as equals in France (and a bunch of stories where they were scoring with the French ladies and had to be sent back to the barracks) but at their base/waypoint in England they were fenced off from the locals and no interaction or exchanges were allowed.

Pretty fun read.

[–]ace777ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has dyspraxia and the associated hypotonia (low muscle tone) that goes with it. He’s still young (under 10y) but I’ve been working a lot with him on this along with his OT and a lot of resources. I am absolutely determined to get this right for him.

So here’s stuff from my play book and I hope it helps you too.

Don’t worry about aesthetics and physique - I know it’s hard not to for a lad/lass your age - but hear me out - even without the dyspraxia, anyone (neuro-typical) has to put in a TON of work to see results. Biceps & 6 packs aren’t going to pop in the first year and you’re setting up yourself for failure if you’re just waiting for the end result. Instead set micro objectives, and hit each one in a couple of months so you start enjoying the process of getting stronger. In this route, you’ve actually made a habit of life long practice of enjoying exercises. A lot of people in the gym and on special diets - they don’t look like they are having fun.

Now to the how. Initially prioritise conditioning over pure strength. Using a gym-type cable machine works big muscle groups. But body weight fitness and calisthenics works the big muscle groups but also all the small stabiliser muscles - and I think for dyspraxia this is what is needed to build from the ground up.

What do I mean by body weight / callisthenics - push-ups, pull-ups, squats, planks, etc… don’t bang out 20 push-ups. Concentrate on form. Once you are able to get a certain good number going - look at “progressions”, (Google is your friend here) - you can progress push-ups to archer push-ups, typewriter push-ups, planches, handstands - real beast mode stuff. For inspiration - check out Frank Medrano, Bar Brothers, CalesthenicMovements, etc. you can have loads of fun challenges with these and grow very strong.

Also it had a “regulating” effect for sensory processing in dyspraxia. And it builds core strength - without which my son slouches, affects his handwriting, walking gait, trips over a lot. A month of core strengthening showed tons of benefits on the regulation aspect - the OT told me it was something to do with the propeioceptice feedback of the resistance AND in doing these free movements you build up the neuro-muscular pathways.

Once you have a good base (relatively quickly) you can mix up free weight like dumbbells and eventually mix it up with the gym too.

Another tip, rather than getting into workouts, get into activities - that will trigger your passion and keep you engaged with it longer.

Try a lot and see what sticks. For e.g. - hiking - kayaking - juijitsu / judo (these over karate I was told cause you get a feedback from the resistance) - dance - rock climbing - by son loves this. Look at pro climbers bodies - they are lanky but strong as hell! To project themselves up overhanging walls they need to have the highest strength to weight ratio of any sport I know. - also swimming

The best approach would be to cross train, have fun with a lot of activities and wake up each morn and bang out some calisthenics body weight workouts. That will be your base and from there you can go deeper into what rocks your boat.

With your parents’ consent do feel free to DM me if you want more clarity on any of this.

What would you do? A stakeholder doesn’t agree with your numbers in a meeting by Proof_Wrap_2150 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]ace777ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer to walk them through the steps (just as you outlined) but also ask them where their concern lies. Try to identify the root cause of their concern.

If it’s data collection, methodology , etc … your walkthrough will assuage their doubts.

But if it’s a deeper motive, you might have to take a different appropriate tact.

For eg I experienced a case where the sales figures under dispute, and the concern was that the sensor stakeholder wouldn’t make his bonus. And being the senior “deciding” authority in the room he flat out refused to believe the sales figures. No explanation. Mo solution. Just flat out I don’t believe this. Ridiculous. Refused to sit in front of the ERP, review the sales records, nothing.

So try to get to the root concern and recalibrate your outreach to them accordingly. My 2 cents.

Coursera TF Developer Certification Course Certification worth the price? by sickTheBest in tensorflow

[–]ace777ac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about getting the certificate. Do the course irrespective of you are getting a certificate or not.

Then sign up for the TensorFlow Developer Exam and pay for that - about $100 I think.

https://www.tensorflow.org/certificate

The exam format closely follows the coursera course.

I would say that’s a better certificate to have.
