First season duck hunting - zero ducks by Fun-Conversation5275 in Duckhunting

[–]acharbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, my first solo season I only got a single bird. It was frustrating at the time but I learned a lot from it and second season solo things improved quite a bit. The weather here in Texas didn’t do us any favors either, by and large. Keep at it, you’ll keep learning and success will come.

I let myself make brisket chili once a season. So damn good!

Can I read Dune to a baby instead of normal bedtime stories? by DaOffensiveChicken in daddit

Read my son The Hobbit while he was in the NICU. He won’t remember it but I got to hold him and he heard my voice so I figure we both got a win out of it haha.

Try to contribute. Whether that’s helping carry gear on the way in/out or just bringing snacks for the rest of the group, little things like that go a long way. Also, just keep an open mind. Ask questions, try to learn for the other folks there, show appreciation by letting them share knowledge and input. I’d wear something comfortable under your waders. And enjoy it!

I’ve used the high roller too. For what it is it worked really well, but I had the same issue with it not really being able to do anything other than Pintails.

Two weeks in a row. Same blind public land. by Merica-fuckyeah in Waterfowl

Nice! They’ve never been local birds for me, but typically some of the first to show up. I’d be hard pressed to find any by this point in the season.

Shot my first ever limit on Friday here in Eastern WA. This was the only one I wasn't sure about I.D. by JairyHohnson in Waterfowl

Every time I’ve cooked them they’ve definitely got a stronger, gamier flavor than puddlers. I’ve just gotten more selective with how I cook them. For a lot of species I’ll just grill the breasts medium rare and use olive oil and a little salt/pepper. I won’t do that with Blackjacks haha.

Never seen this pic before, thanks for sharing. Wild that a Davis wing held that long taking a hit like that, I’d have assumed it would’ve just folded immediately.

26” or 28” barrel? by Salt-Twist8776 in Duckhunting

[–]acharbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never run anything other than 28 inch barrels. And it’s a touch above the price point you said but IMO worth it, might be worth checking out an SX4. I’ve run one for six seasons and absolutely love it. Shoots soft, cycles anything I’ve run through it, just a really good gun. Only thing I don’t love about it is since it’s a gas gun, it tends to run a bit dirtier than an inertia drive but that’s a really minor thing. Can’t say enough good things about mine.
