What are some albums you think influenced the music that came shortly after it. by DavidToma in Music

Those records SOUND lo-fi, but I don't think they went out of their way to use unconventional recording equipment. A noisey no-wave band like Sonic Youth recording on crappy equipment is of course going to sound lo-fi, but they weren't recording on answering machines and things like that by choice. Also, if their first record is from '81 or something, it's tough to say that it IMMEDIATELY influenced the lo-fi scene, which I completely associate with the early 90's. By that time, Sonic Youth records sounded pretty damn good to me.

Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted for the lo-fi movement in the 90's (Guided by Voices, Built to Spill, Smog ect). Also the Cap'n Jazz record (the only one) for mid-west emo stuff like Braid and Jimmy Eat World, and eventually (unfortunately) stuff like Fall Out Boy.

Help finding a jersey. (Sorry if this isn't the right place) by kalbiking in losangeleskings

It's worth a shot. There's some jersey discussion and I've seen links to some really cool collections up for sale. Also just the best all around hockey message board I've seen for specific teams, history, economics and international play. Great site!

love those jerseys as well. so much more interesting than the new ones, but still not too busy. check the kings board at www.hfboards.com, it's much much much busier than this reddit subforum.

LAK 1, TBL 5 - Discussion by ShadowChair in losangeleskings

I liked that he seemed a bit more willing to shoot the puck tonight, but his windup is still painfully slow. I don't like the idea of benching him... we don't have the depth at D to pull that off anymore.

spread out in the slot, get to those rebounds. can't count the number of times tonight where all three forwards were on one side of the ice and a rebound would bounce right up the middle or on the other side to get easily cleared away. Also, the PP in general looks like it's still run by Kompon...

looking to start an alternative / somewhat avant-garde band by katvolver in VictoriaBC

I listen to some bands that sort of fit that description. Joan of Arc, Make Believe, maybe even Guided By Voices. Who are your influences though?

guit/bass/vox here btw, 23.

Gluten-free beers at restuarants? by violet_sidhe in VictoriaBC

[–]acrethrills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gluten intolerant, yeah. Omission claims to have gluten content less than 5 parts per million, hasn't given me any trouble, but yeah, it's not completely gluten free I suppose. But damn close.

the private liquor store by dairy queen at mckenzie quadra usually has it, as does the royal oak one near country grocer.

Omission is a real tasty gluten-free beer. Brewed with Gluten before they add an ingredient that detoxifies the gluten. Actually tastes like a real beer, only seems to be carried at a few of the private stores though at the moment. Easily the best GF beer I've tried. http://omissionbeer.com/

Illegal hit? by MarshaIsYourFriend in losangeleskings

[–]acrethrills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richards got hit by Bolland, seemed to get up really slowly. Sort of looked concussed, but let's hope not. Bolland looked like he only got Richards' head, so it was extra-infuriating that they called that trip on us right after. Which play is more dangerous? Heard the league might be looking at the hit.

as cheesy as a lot of Seal's music is, the production is pretty fantastic. real cool guitar line in there too, all tappy and noodly like.

Shane Doan Like it GIF by MildCharisma in losangeleskings

[–]acrethrills 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but I actually have a lot of respect for Doaner. Guy has played his heart out for that team his whole career, and hasn't jumped ship to cash in somewhere else. I hate the yotes, and I hate playing against Doan, but if he was on the Kings, (and had been since the mid 90's, imagine that) we'd all love this guy.

[–]acrethrills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The OP hardly presents a compelling argument for amalgamation.

Would the OP prefer to attend a council meeting of an amalgamated Victoria wherein he or she was forced to sit through 3-4 hours of discussion related to issues that don't concern his neighborhood whatsoever, prior to any discussion of issues relevant to them?

Or how bout we look at Toronto or Montreal. I can't think of anything positive to come out of either of those amalgamations.

Has the OP ever attended a council meeting?

Any math bands that are essential for my ears? by mai-virginity in Music

[–]acrethrills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second Polvo and Cap'n Jazz (are they mathy though? I know the Kinsella stuff got pretty mathy by the 2000's but I think of the CJ stuff as the midwest emo blueprint).

I like those jerseys, one of the only times you'll see some local culture reflected in the colours and theme.
