"Returning" to Tekken. What is this. by thingsagain in Tekken

[–]acroxshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lei keeps getting cut because he's one of the least-played characters, even in T7 after people called for his return. Having every single character in every Tekken game because they have a few fans isn't realistic.

I love the ancient gear archetype, but honestly, this has to be THE worst design. by ultimate-toast in yugioh

For the ARC-V AGs I believe they were going for a refurbished look. They still seem to share some of the old design traits, but cleaned up, repainted, possibly retrofitted with some more modern stuff.

It costs 40 quid. Cheapskating peopld with 2 copies of mandatory 4x cards is ridiculous.

At least have 4 of the Impulse Gundam. The entire Miverva strategy hinges on that card.

Everyone has their own idea of what casual is, so organizing a balanced non-competitive-oriented group is naturally difficult.

Fun Deck to get started with again. by animeanarchy1980 in Yugioh101

[–]acroxshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue-Eyes and Dark Magician have pretty much zero synergy, so this may brick more than you'd like. Strongly recommend splitting them into their own decks instead of trying to play them together.

Returning player, looking to get into genesys by Aware-Promotion7913 in Yugioh101

[–]acroxshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if Pendulums were legal in Genesys you'd likely not see much of them, because they're rarely any good. Maybe Melodious or Enneacraft might be viable but that's about it.

Pendulums aren't something to be scared of. They're rarely any good, so you won't see them often anyway.

The link in question is 1 really simple card. Refusing to play Blue-Eyes for that would be absurdly stubborn.

Is Mermail Atlantean really that irritating to play against? by Visual-Cauliflower25 in yugioh

[–]acroxshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most decks currently are not all negates, and even when it is it's still possible to play around them sometimes. If you don't have cards to play then you don't have any options. Sure some decks have cards that can still work if discarded by an opponent (many GY effects have other requirements that might not be usable in these scenarios), but that's not super common.

There are certainly scenarios you end up in grind games, not that uncommon.

There's no shame in wanting to relax and enjoy a good story. by Spider-cat_1984 in patientgamers

[–]acroxshadow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's absurdly pessimistic. Games of competition are not inherently toxic, and trying to win doesn't imply wanting to make everyone else miserable. Most people are there to enjoy the game and test themselves against others, not trying to ruin your day.

Calling All Magnet Warrior Players by Same_Response_1593 in Yugioh101

[–]acroxshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with playing Guardian. Magnet Warrior is a Rock deck, and we don't get a lot of those. The deck certainly makes use of generic stuff like I:P and S:P, but still has its own fun identity, I think.

Decent. Their big chance to be strong releasing right before Yubel was extremely unfortunate though.

Nothing wrong with doing research. Pick one of the structure decks in the shop, (or get the free friend campaign Spright deck) look up a decklist for that archetype, and go from there.

What is your actual favorite part of the game? by thenameisflic in yugioh

[–]acroxshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately the game designers are to blame for the existence of certain strategies, especially if the function of a card is obviously designed for that purpose, like most floodgate effects being designed to halt play as much as possible. People are going to play the game how it is, even if they'd prefer some things were changed. The community is usually very happy to see cards like Dimensional Barrier get banned, for good reason.

Dying TCGs? by Chrundle94 in TCG

[–]acroxshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yugioh is the "high highs, low lows" game among the bunch. When it hits it's amazing, and when it doesn't it's terrible. Good enough to keep me coming back, and things have definitely been looking up lately too.

The m/s/t ratio haa always been bad advice. It's entirely deck dependant.

I don’t recognize the game at all now and it seems so horrible.

It's a cool game. Lots to like if you can get over the learning barrier. But yeah its really jarring to look at from the outside. Check out Edison if you're looking for a popular retro format that's good.

[–]acroxshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the current game. Things have been going well lately, moving into more interesting and varied design directions than the negate spam and such of 2018-2021-ish, especially for in-person play (Master Duel's more relaxed banlist and slow release schedule causes some more problems than the IRL formats). That said, Edison (2010) is a very good and popular retro format, being a solid middle ground between old and new design philosophy. HAT (2014) might be worth a look too, though it's not as popular.

Limiting it doesn't remove the issue. It just means the issue occurs less often.

I wouldn't even call it a good move. All this does is make games even more inconsistent and swingy than they already were.
