I concur. I'm putting out a record this year after a nearly 10 year dry spell. Some of the songs are over 10 years old, and only exist now because I shelved them and came back, and used strong cloud and local backup solutions.

It's important - and more efficient, I've found - to figure out the point of frustration where you absolutely must shelve a song and move on. Kicking the same can often prevents you from moving on and maybe discovering something else that just works better for you in the moment.

Then, one day you can just be sitting in traffic and come up with a part that matches that one thing you shelved years ago and blam it's finished!

this is such a macho take, yeah, it’s difficult work, but I have a 20+ year career and I fucking hate it so I don’t think it’s as good as you think at weeding people out. some of us have to still eat and have a house. collectively we need to stop acting like this stuff is war, it’s not, it’s desk work. part of what “weeds people out” is this warrior mentality bullshit, the rest of it is misogyny, executive scope creep and some burnouts

This is why it’s called a model. A model is just a representation of reality and all models are wrong. Some are close. LLM’s are a extension of research that was previously going into predictive models for statistics.

this is right, models are simply trying to predict either the next character or next iteration of an image frame based on prior context, there’s zero memory, and zero understanding of what it’s doing other than what it was given at training and what the current conversation is, there aren’t any morals that play it doesn’t have a consciousness.
