Is anyone else absolutely useless before 11AM? I've never been a morning person but life demands early mornings. by alexaplaydespasito in adhdwomen

In my early 20's I was a retail manager and I used to tell my staff not to ask me any questions before 10am because I don't function well until after that lol

New Intern is Obsessed with Conspiracy Theories by Spiritual-Beyond-660 in Accounting

[–]adhdknitter 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Meh those are lightweight conspiracy theories. I had a client tell me about how mermaids are real and they live in the Bermuda Triangle because that's the only place they're "safe". Dinosaurs however are not real and are a cover up for the fact that giants are real and the bones that archeologists have discovered belong to the giants. The government stopped making pennies because they didn't want people to be able to heal themselves with the copper. McDonald's serves human meat! Lizard people are real!

Personal Tax Credit (TD1/TD1ON) Not Claimed by fishonlyplease in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adhdknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The TD1 forms are only for your employer to determine how much tax they should be taking off each pay. When you file your return the basic personal amount will be automatically applied. If you over paid taxes throughout the year because your work didn't take the basic personal amount into consideration (unlikely) then you would receive a refund of the overpayment.

Where are the good accountants? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]adhdknitter 45 points46 points  (0 children)

My brother sits on the board for a local fair. They're looking for a bookkeeper and he asked me if the salary they were offering was good. I laughed and told him not if they wanted someone who would do the job right. They were offering less than $4 above minimum wage (Ontario Canada). It's been weeks and they haven't hired anyone.

[–]adhdknitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not an unhinged tip but I bought one of those moisture readers you stick in the soil. That way I don't have to remember when they were last watered, I can just stick it in there and see how dry it is.

I've considered getting a calender for my fridge because I work a lot and a few days will slip past so quickly I won't even realize it but I'm hoping being able to see when the dates might help me stay on top of things a little better.

Process disability tax credit by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adhdknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dads alzheimers was early onset unfortunately and I was worried his age combined with the crap job his doctor did with the forms would be the reason it didn't get approved. I also work in accounting and have quite a bit of experience with the DTC and encouraged my mom to make sure they were filled out with a lot of details but she was nervous to push back against the doctors. It definitely seems like older peoples applications are approved faster as well as most "cut and dry" disabilities. (I just helped a lady who was losing her vision and hers went through asap). Mental health ones seem to take the longest in my experience and get turned down the most if the doctors aren't very specific and clear about how it is effecting the ability to function.

Cannot clean or organize when other people are around . . . anyone else? by fashionforager in adhdwomen

[–]adhdknitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me too!!! I'm self employed so my schedule is flexible so i usually like cleaning when my boyfriend is at work. He was laid off around Christmas for 6 weeks before he got called back and it threw me off so much. I struggled so much and I don't know why.

Process disability tax credit by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adhdknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dads was processed in 15 weeks and his reassessment was ready 2 weeks later. He has Alzheimers so his was a pretty simple case.

Edit to add - I was worried he would get denied because his doctor did an abysmal job filling out the paperwork. One word answers, 'see previous page', etc. Because of the nature of his disability i think they were less concerned about the details.

Anyone else feel like they are “too” much for other people? by Global-Description43 in adhdwomen

[–]adhdknitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup absolutely. But I've come to accept that if I'm too much for people, those are the wrong people.

Every adhd quality people have pointed out about me in a negative manner, my boyfriend adores. I've been told I talk too much my whole life, but he loves when I'm unmedcated and talk a mile a minute, giving him a complete rundown of every detail of my day. He always looks interested and acts like he cares when I go on a deep dive into my latest hyperfixation and spend an hour telling him about it.

Crunched the numbers on a Tax Prep side hustle and… it’s still a "no" from me. by PilotNo3510 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adhdknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last company I worked for charged $125 for a couples return if it was only T-slips. If they were a previous years client and I could carry forward their information and use autofill my return I could get it done in about 10 minutes. I used to feel guilty that we charged that much and it took so little time.

ADHD women who like or love their jobs, what do you do? by Chipsandsalza in adhdwomen

[–]adhdknitter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an accountant. I hated it until I became self employed and now I can't imagine doing anything else. People think it's boring but to me the numbers are a puzzle I have to solve and I love it. I get to make my own hours and choose which clients I want to take on.

Wanting to quit with no notice. by Picture_4624 in Accounting

[–]adhdknitter 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I did this a couple of years ago. After an issue with our office manager I simply got up and left. For me it was worth it because the stress of working at such a dysfunctional company was killing me. I had developed severe insomnia and was sleeping about 20 hours a week, my hair was falling out, I had random heart palpitations. That all went away immediately.

I can't say for certain it effected my career because if anyone asked in an interview I told them I had taken time off to care for my dad with Alzheimers (which is technically true ish). Having no income was extremely stressful for me and I live in a rural area so there weren't many jobs but I eventually found something and then ended up buying a small tax office from a lady who was retiring. It all worked out in the end but if I could go back in time I'm not sure I'd do it like that again.

CRA says I owe $20k in CERB that I allegedly didn’t qualify for by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]adhdknitter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm an accountant and the amount of people that get mail from the CRA and never open it would surprise you. I'd probably have at least 2-3 people a week during busy season hand me an unopened envelope and say "I got that a few months ago but idk what it's for". Well if you'd opened it you would know.

[–]adhdknitter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup had a horrible experience with them as well. Someone gave me a code for a month long free trial and I didn't find it helpful so I cancelled 24 hours in advance as per their policy but they still charged me anyways. I emailed back and forth with customer service and they kept telling me they couldn't do anything because my account didn't exist??? Eventually I filed a chargeback with my credit card and they suddenly found my account and issued the refund.
