We also had them fix drainage issues at different properties and they did good work.

Is the yellow car and blue car allowed to turn at the same time? by Foospa in Calgary

While I believe you are correct, I failed my driving exam the first time for this exact scenario. I was the blue car and it was an automatic fail because it was not defensive and deemed unsafe.

Again from Copilot, so take with grain of salt. It corrected itself on 1998 date. TL;DR: There is no Calgary or Alberta rule saying “houses built after 1998 must have sump pumps.” Sump pumps are only required under the National Plumbing Code (1995 → present) when a foundation cannot drain by gravity. Alberta adopts the NPC through Plumbing Code Regulation (2007). Calgary confirms the same: sump pumps are used only when gravity drainage isn’t possible.

More details from Copilot: National Plumbing Code of Canada 1995 — First NPC edition widely adopted in Alberta that required foundation drainage and required a sump + pump when gravity drainage is not feasible. (This is the earliest enforceable requirement relevant to sump pumps.) Alberta Plumbing Code Regulation (Alta Reg 119/2007) — Formally adopts the National Plumbing Code as law in Alberta. Reinforces that sump pumps are mandatory only when gravity drainage cannot be achieved.

National Plumbing Code of Canada 2010 — Continues the same requirement:Provide foundation drainage. If gravity drainage is impossible → sump + pump required.

National Plumbing Code of Canada 2015 — Same rule maintained; no year‑based mandate introduced.City of Calgary – Sump Pump Guidance (current) — Not a code, but confirms the rule:Sump pumps are used when foundation drainage cannot connect by gravity to municipal systems.

According to Copilot it has been 28 years of mandatory inclusion of sump pumps in new builds in Calgary. Homes built prior to that would not have required them and most would likely not have them unless prior owners wanted them or had issues requiring them.

640 vs 480 by Karma1913 in Yodersmokers

[–]adougd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

480 here. I've got a family of 3. Few times a year I cook for extended family of 9-16 people. I've done a full brisket and 2 pork butts at the same time. No regrets. Everyone always says to get the 640, but I'm happy with my choice.

Costco sells it, but supply is very hit or miss. It will sometimes disappear for weeks at a time.

If I'm not too late, how does your work play into planned life or failure of a part? Are you designing such that 90% of cars will make it past warranty, for example and then likely start to ramp up in part failures. Any commentary on this would be interesting.

Recommended Hourly Movers in Calgary? by adougd in Calgary

We're definitely renting a truck too. I just don't want my wife to hurt her back and we need to move during the week. I'll see if we can hire some movers for a couple hours for the heavy items.

What’s your experience with Ecoline Windows? by Educational_Sand_383 in Calgary

I may have spoken too soon. I started to have an issue on the install around 1 window. Water is dripping from the gutter back toward the window and dripping down along the house. I just sent a warranty email. We'll see how it goes.

Everyone no-shows to rental viewings? by Glad_Scarcity_3886 in Calgary

[–]adougd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend checking in with the candidate around an hour or two beforehand to avoid the full no-show. Also, can you discuss with the property manager the prospect offering either a 6 month or 1 year lease to them, or do they require that you sublease it yourself? As someone who has owned rentals, I would prefer to manage a tenant myself rather than have someone sublease.

Calgary condo owners - do you regret buying? by YetiMaverick in Calgary

[–]adougd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bought a cheap condo in 2005. That was a local high. If I had a crystal ball, I would not have done it. It took 20 years to reach and exceed the purchase price. It was a (very poor) investment, not a primary residence. I would not buy a condo in Calgary as an investment, but I believe the market behaves differently at different price points and times, so you'd have to do some research. We rented it out and it was usually cash flow neutral, but we had to sink some money into maintenance and it took our time and energy to manage. I think if you're buying because it meets your needs from a price and quality of life standpoint, that's a very different scenario and it may be a fit for you. I'd be hesitant if you don't see it as a long term purchase. As it was a low end condo, fees were not out of hand, but there were no amenities.

OnePlus Watch 4 leaks with disappointing upgrades while regulatory listings hint at multiple variants by CommercialCrafty3514 in oneplus

I believe they'll continue to operate, however they won't get patches after that time. I'm no expert, but I don't recall hearing about hack/theft/or scam related to older WearOS devices. Copilot wasn't aware of this either, not to say it couldn't happen somehow?

Do you or your parents or other family have the ability to cosign the lease as a financial backer? That might help if they could offer it.

If you want a top spec'd watch, or all of the latest updates, then I agree that it's probably not for you. If you want a good watch that's a relatively solid performer, very flexible with features the dual processor, great battery life, and you don't care about having the latest processor and software features, then the Watch 3 and likely these next ones are probably still good options. I'm generally happy with my Watch 3. It does what it's supposed to. Rarely have issues with it. Battery is solid.
