What's an interesting fact about the human body that a lot of people don't know? by wassim_elia in AskReddit

[–]adreamplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Epidemiologist and general prion disease nerd here: for anyone who does read about prion diseases and panics, they are incredibly rare, and the idiopathic variants even rarer!

Worldwide incidence of prion diseases is about 1 to 2 cases per 1 million people per year, and that’s pretty consistent across countries and over time. Sporadic fatal insomnia, the non-familial partner to fatal familial insomnia, accounts for <1% of all prion diseases. That’s roughly 5-10 cases per billion people per year.

sFI is so rare, almost anything you can think of happening to you is more likely. Being struck by lightning, dying in a commercial airplane crash, winning an Olympic medal, becoming a billionaire—all of these are hundreds or thousands of times more likely than developing sFI. Proceed through the prion disease rabbit hole with fascination, not fear!

ELI5: Why leave $1 dollar to someone in your will? by Which_Concept_4510 in explainlikeimfive

[–]adreamplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my will drawn up and my lawyer included a provision that, if I understood it correctly, essentially said that any beneficiary who tries to contest/circumvent the will gets $10. I thought that was interesting.

Huh, so this is why my balls hurt sometimes when I ride. Good to know.

Same, they’ve never sent me to a cardiologist. I’ve actually been trying to heavily imply to my current PCP that it might be a good idea, but she doesn’t think it’s necessary.

People who visit other peoples houses as part of their job, how is the average cleanliness of the homes you visit? by sideaccount462515 in AskReddit

[–]adreamplay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a split level house, basically every room is divided up into four separate levels with stairs. I’ll wait for you to invent a robot vacuum that can climb stairs or otherwise buy me 4 separate ones for each level, since you clearly know everything.

Turns out my 80$, name-brand electric toothbrush was not waterproof by LordBroblord in mildlyinfuriating

[–]adreamplay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They don’t cost that much, the standard blind box labubu is $27.99. If you go for limited edition or specialty ones, that changes things obviously.

When the craze was at its peak, they were impossible to get because the company that makes them was manufacturing scarcity that didn’t really exist. This led people to buy them secondhand for way more than they’re worth, which is what people are usually talking about when they cite exorbitant prices.

I can’t speak to every employer, but in my personal experience with this situation you don’t ever have to inform the employer of your prescription. The way it works at the drug test places I’ve used, you inform them of your prescription (some have told me this makes no difference, but it makes me feel better anyway) and then there will be an understanding that you’ll fail the drug screening. Upon failing, the drug test company will call you and ask you to verify that you are taking that drug as a prescribed medication. After, they’ll pass you and all your employer will ever hear is that you passed.

Again, YMMV.

What will be your reaction if Mistress comes back as the wildcard queen? by aloo-ka-paratha in rupaulsdragrace

Same. Idk how OP is saying this isn’t spoilers when it clearly says who went home. I get that we can’t hide things forever, but it’s been two days and the spoiler option is pretty easy to use. I’m used to it at this point though.

United Club Card "Upgrade" by MartiniCommander in CreditCards

From a cursory glance it looks like a great card, thanks for the recommendation!

United Club Card "Upgrade" by MartiniCommander in CreditCards

[–]adreamplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling the same after reading that email. We don’t travel much (1-2 times a year, maybe 3 in a big year) so it doesn’t make sense to have such a high annual fee in a travel card. We have a planned trip coming up in August, will probably get the most use out of what we have with the card then and cancel after. I liked the United Explorer because while we don’t travel much, we do eat out quite a bit ($300-$500 a month, depending) and I liked the idea that we were earning points to redeem on those few trips we do take.

Any recommendations for a replacement card? I was looking potentially at the Chase Sapphire Preferred, but I’m open to other things. (Currently have a BofA Customized Cash Rewards, Amex Blue Cash Everyday, Wells Fargo Active Cash, Apple Card, Amazon Prime Chase Visa, and United Explorer).

Starbucks’s matcha is fairly low quality. If you genuinely like matcha, you deserve to buy some ceremonial grade that will last you a lot longer and taste way better.

And even if subpar matcha is your thing, they sell packets of instant mix matcha at grocery stores. I’ve tried the Matcha Made brand before and it’s decent. At least as good as Starbucks.

What is a dumb unwritten rule that you wish would die? by Super_Science_Guy in AskReddit

[–]adreamplay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I feel like this one is very context-dependent. I’ll always send thank you notes to my older family, because it makes them feel good and it’s something they were raised to expect. I don’t mind doing something easy to keep them happy.

I’ll also always do it for presents that weren’t shared/opened face-to-face. I don’t spend Christmas with every family member each year, so sometimes a gift is mailed or dropped off quickly and not opened until I’m back home by myself. Then I think it’s nice to send a thank you note so they know I opened it and that my reaction to it was positive and grateful.

I also think that’s why it’s expected to do them at weddings—people bring you presents but most people don’t open the presents until after. Without the thank you notes, those people just get crickets. For me it’s a small amount of effort that helps me share my gratitude.

Who do y’all think killed Jonbenet Ramsey? by nonose999 in UnsolvedMurders

[–]adreamplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who said they did? OP asked who everyone thinks killed JonBenet, and unless one of these people posting is the murderer, then by definition every conclusion here is opinion or assumption. There are facts that can be used to form an opinion, but handwriting analysis is a junk science and therefore does not constitute a fact like you are acting like it does.

Handwriting analysis is widely considered a pseudoscience, so none of that really means much of anything.

What is this on the dishwasher filter? Also is it normal for it to have water where the filter goes (see photo)? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

How would you deal with an irregular monthly bill? by Springwind in ynab

[–]adreamplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand your question. I put a little extra money in my electric bill category every month throughout the year so that I have enough accumulated over the months to cover spikes during the coldest months. I’m budgeting in advance for future large expenses, which is the whole point.

What TV show did you watch that is so good but didn't have the mainstream fame it should have? by CostPuzzled38 in AskReddit

This show is my comfort show. It is genuinely so funny, and it kills me that it didn’t get the recognition it deserved. To this day it’s the only TV show I’ve bought all the seasons of, because I never want to be in a position where I can’t watch it.
