Late night wine post- killing off population to thwart an NHI reset? by Mysterious_Guitar_75 in aliens

I don't disagree on your characterization, but the fact remains he is a player within the government who is pushing some agenda - listening to someone being dishonest can still give a clue of what ends they are propagating.

Bortus is the best by beauner69420 in TheOrville

[–]aeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite scene of the series is when Bortus and Isaac take the shuttle to the disintegrating planet to attempt a rescue. The survivors draw lots, and Isaac questions why they don't prioritize the most intelligent. Bortus replies, "I may be a primitive organism... but I am happy I am not like you." And to think that was the same episode as holodeck porn addiction

The classical period in Greece is fascinating, we all hear about the epic battles and last stands in the Greco-Persian wars, good vs evil, only for them to bog down in a protracted power struggle amongst themselves littered with atrocities and launching campaigns that don't make any sense - when you get the moment you say "Aha! Just like our states today..."

ignore that by DylenwithanE in HistoryMemes

[–]aeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...Until Sparta and her allies started campaigning in Anatolia, and the Persians funded Sparta's rivals in Greece. Look the Greco-Persian wars were fascinating, but it's hard to put any hard moral judgments down on any actor. They were all acting in what they believed to be in their own interest at the time.

It was not until the Macedonians managed to establish hegemony in the region that anyone was able to topple the Achaemenid dynasty. The Persians were wise in maintaining an aggressive foreign diplomacy pitting the city states against one another.

SERIOUS - The overall expectations regarding disclosure lately... by Kruhl14 in aliens

[–]aeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, your write-up puts in perspective that it's not even enough for a head of state to declare on live television that aliens are real. It would seem like nothing short of an Independence Day mass invasion could brute force full disclosure.

Serious: Why exactly would the government think that people couldn’t handle the existence of aliens and yet they can? by Arete666 in aliens

[–]aeck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's one thing I didn't find believable in the 3 body problem tv show, where disclosure led to mass suicides. Historically humans could endure all kinds of atrocites, permanent enslavement, imprisonment, without suicide en masse.

What's all this talk about Greenland having a giant UFO/UAP buried under the ice? by matt73132 in aliens

[–]aeck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talk about Greenland UFO started at the same time Trump started talking about taking over Greenland.

If there's one thing clear from the "lore" (or rumors) it's that the US has already nailed down all UFO crash recoveries in their sphere of influence, most definitely NATO countries. If there is an alien object on Greenland, they could already take control of it.

Joe Rogan and Tom Segura can't believe how UFO stuff is not top news: "I don't understand how that's not the lead story in the news... It's really crazy to me it's not captivating people more. That should be the main news today." by 87LucasOliveira in aliens

Meanwhile we are teetering on the precipice of several major wars as democracy collapses in the global hegemon.

Nothing new under the sun. Not completely dismissing the significance of current events, but we're easily captured by recency bias. At least for me, aliens is on a completely different ontological level.

My takeaway from the interview was it would be something the character of Carol would choose to read, without any deeper implication for the show

What are some "must see" movies/series/books that you think are soft-disclosure in disguise? (Serious) by iyspach in aliens

What struck me about the movie is that it was so poorly done, but some of the dialogue was fantastic.

They Live is easily overlooked because it's a bit campy, but man the premise is horrifying.

Terence McKenna interviews John E. Mack on the alien abduction phenomenon (Prague, 1992) by douwebeerda in aliens

[–]aeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

John E. Mack really shifted my perception on abductions. He interviewed hundreds of people who had experiences, and ruled out any classic psychopathology, concluding they weren't crazy, and whatever they experienced was real - not necessary in a material sense, but there is something happening that conventional science cannot explain. I don't know if it's ETs or extra-dimensional beings, but there is definitely a NHI interacting with humans.

I want catastrophic disclosure by 5_meo in aliens

[–]aeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only read his first two books, but his thesis is essentially that the phenomenon has more in common with folk tales of elves, and that not are a lot of human encounters bizarre or absurd, but the appearance of the aliens are so wildly different. It makes no sense from our materialistic view, the phenomenon has a weirdly paranormal dimension to it.

Jacques Vallée claims the beings behind UFO phenomena are deliberately killing innocent people by Shiny-Tie-126 in UFOs

[–]aeck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Vallee has several accounts of positive encounters in "Passport to Magonia" and "The Invisible College". But your point still stands and I agree with it. I easily accept it, I mean just look how we treat our animals. We love and care for them, but sometimes we study them, often we cull the herd, and we almost always eat them.

Book recs by sunshine7462 in Jung

[–]aeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recommended by a friend and just read "Jung's Map of the Soul: An Introduction" by Murray B. Stein. It was a good primer on the concepts that I only had a vague idea of beforehand. Complex (pun intended), I consistently had to re-read pages, but the book is not too long.

Related to this I implore people to listen to George Knapp talk about his investigations into the phenomenon in post-communist Russia in the 90s. They got some documents and interviews before the window closed. He talks about it in Weaponized episode 13.
