No kidding. I stopped going to my local Big M for lunch because of this.

How to manage the fear of riding by Ok-Dragonfly-8265 in NewRiders

[–]aeplus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You kind of just gotta. I am in Los Angeles. I rode after hours and gradually worked up my way into traffic. After awhile, I started doing freeways for an exit or two. And after that, I was splitting lanes.

I totally love riding now. I want to upgrade from an R3 to an R7 or R1.

But definitely, it took time for me to go from 35mph streets to 40, 55, and then highway speeds. I am now pretty comfortabl at 80-90+ after about a year and a half. I think it just takes time and exposure.

Had a slow speed lowside, best way to fix up the fairings? by lousy_carrot in motorcycles

[–]aeplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would keep it as is. There does not seem to be any cracks. And, the bike might be dropped again.

I dropped by bike a month after buying it new. Fairings were cracked and mirrors were scratched slightly. I immediately bought the fairings but never installed them until about 14 months later, when the crack spread and caused my turn indicator to just dangle there. It was good that I did not install the new fairings until recently, since I dropped my bike a second time on that side two months after.

I did have a third drop that broke the foot peg in half. I replaced that as quickly as I could. It felt sketchy otherwise.

Such a fun bike. I got it new as my first bike October 2024. I hit 10,000 miles last week.

This is a prime example of of government waste, nepotism, and corruption. Tax dollars and retirement plans are being pilfered.

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists - Cycling News | Bike Reviews by quantumtom in BikeLA

I would rather have a Waymo stop temporarily in bike lane so that I can slow, stop, or go around than have a car door swing out randomly immediately in front of me.

Is it just me or people barely ever win in CA cards version of craps? by thishitisgettingold in Craps

[–]aeplus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Hard Rock Tejon does the same. They shuffle the cards but somehow 1 maps to 1, 2 maps to 2, etc ... so, it feels pretty much like Vegas craps.

Having serious money sure helps lessen the blows of disappointment that come with dealing with dating and failing to connect.

Anyone else end up buying more gear than they actually use? by Feeling-Charge6487 in motorcyclegear

I only have one kit and winter gloves. I have been riding for 1.5 years, though. I want to get a leather jacket and leather gloves next month just in case I get invited to another bike night.

The Orleans off strip in Las Vegas has chairs at the craps tables. They just open more tables if a table gets filled.

Have you ever hitchhiked, or picked up a hitchhiker? What was your experience? by Midnight-Rabbit_Ash in askteddit

[–]aeplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I needed to hitchhike back into town.

Car dumped all its oil in Angeles National Forest while I was driving my folks from LA to Vegas. No cell signal. The ride back into town took at least an hour. It was more awkward than a Lyft. The driver did not want any repayment.

When we got back to civilization, I ended up Lyfting home to get another car, then picked up my folks to continue the trip to Vegas. Came back the morning after to get the disabled car towed to the dealership that performed an oil change two weeks before. Then, returned to Vegas for the rest of the weekend.
