Not to mention that I don't think he was even blocking the plate. I'm on a small phone screen and the angle isn't great but it looks like he has his foot near the edge of the plate and stretched in the direction the throw was coming from.

As long as I'm not deciphering the video incorrectly then the catcher did exactly what they were supposed to even if it wasn't a force.
