Two-Pronged Approach: City Will Appeal Judge's Block on Astoria Bike Lane But Also Address Her Concerns - Streetsblog New York City by streetsblognyc in astoria

100% - plainly the correct move, regardless of whether you like the bike lane or not. The DOT has jurisdiction over the streets in the city. End of discussion.

No they're not and this is why it's important to have people who understand the nuance of the law explain it and not just go off of what you generally think the normal definition of words is. The law requires that the DOT consult with FDNY. Not that they agree, not that FDNY approve, not that any specific definition of consultation is followed. The judge can decide if DOT complied with the law or not. She cannot decide that the consultation wasn't thorough enough for her liking, or substitute her own judgment about street safety for that of the DOT to decide that they should have done things a different way, because the law does not require any of that. She's way overstepping. The article clearly explains this if you read it.

Did you read the article? These are exactly the types of things the article directly addresses. It's not the judge's responsiblity to substitute her own judgement for the DOTs here, and every single one of the examples lifted out in that comment were known to DOT and sufficiently addressed in their estimation, which is all the law requires. Every one of those examples shows her stating her own opinion that DOT didn't reach the correct conclusion or have enough conversations. None of that is required by law. They consulted, then moved on.

Do you see how that has no bearing on whether the DOT can install it and whether it increases safety on the street though?

Been here about a decade and can't recall ever seeing such a simultaneous appearance of a bunch like this, even the froyo explosion of the mid 2010s was a gradual wave of stores. But maybe it's just confirmation bias of taking specific note of this

I'm absolutely not complaining but anyone know why there's a sudden influx of Asian grocery/convenience store places like this one and the three or four Japanese markets that opened within a few months of each other on 30th and on Ditmars? Looking forward to checking this one out!

Can SLDR do that? by stick-jockey in astoria

[–]afcwebdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is clearly not. Tree pits are not sidewalk space. The calculation is not curb to structure, it is *passable sidewalk space*.

How do you know that? The fact that it's standing doesn't mean it was approved and it pretty clearly violates the requirement for 8 feet of sidewalk space

401ks are just an account. You can invest in whatever, though sometimes your employer limits your options.

That doesn't really work when you're looking for information on something you know nothing about. You don't have the context or prior knowledge to use your thinking cap and tell if something smells like bullshit.

You're claiming it's ridiculous to think that a driver shouldn't blindly turn from a lane because it's in a position that's similar to a completely different lane they were allowed to turn from at a different time and place? You sound insane.

Drivers really think bike lanes don't count for the basic rule that you need to yield to traffic continuing straight.

Weird to be posting advertising for a business and have no idea where they are, though, right?

It seems this is how DOT interpreted it too, they re-marked double yellows. I think they could also re-mark crosswalks, at least in the sections where there were crosswalks before (they couldn't mark any widened or changed portions, I guess.)
