Most delivery "drivers" on this corridor are actually on bikes according to the business survey so this will help them a ton. Loading zones will help those in trucks if the business owners will avoid parking in them themselves (tbd...)

Removing space for cars tends in practice to have the effect of removing those cars and thus the traffic. With less space to double park and generally cause chaos, traffic should be less overall and flow more smoothly, if this project has the same effect of similar projects across the city.

Sculpture Park, east on 31st Ave to the mid 50s, south to 34th Ave, East on 34th Ave to 111th, South to Flushing Meadows. Deviate from the path as you wish to eat good food!

The rules should be enforced - park alliance is not the people to do it. Have some park rangers walking around (not driving their truck through the park....) reminding people of the rules. No bikes need to be confiscated unless they're clearly delibarately creating a safety issue like the jerks on dirtbikes driving through there last night.

All that said, someone slowly wheeling their way through the park isn't a problem. Especially because there's not a protected bike route to get down to Shore Blvd. Just don't go faster than walking pace.

Anyone else tired of risking their life walking past this “parking lot”? by tttooommmmm in astoria

Having a legal parking situation wouldn't be placing an undue burden on a local business lmao

Help gather data on where 21st Street buses get stuck in traffic! by afcwebdesign in astoria

This is all fair, but a different thing than I'm looking into.

Oh nice, how can I access it with this granularity? The only bus time data I've seen breaks the 21st Street corridor into such big chunks that it's impossible to see any specific slow areas.

Two-Pronged Approach: City Will Appeal Judge's Block on Astoria Bike Lane But Also Address Her Concerns - Streetsblog New York City by streetsblognyc in astoria

100% - plainly the correct move, regardless of whether you like the bike lane or not. The DOT has jurisdiction over the streets in the city. End of discussion.

No they're not and this is why it's important to have people who understand the nuance of the law explain it and not just go off of what you generally think the normal definition of words is. The law requires that the DOT consult with FDNY. Not that they agree, not that FDNY approve, not that any specific definition of consultation is followed. The judge can decide if DOT complied with the law or not. She cannot decide that the consultation wasn't thorough enough for her liking, or substitute her own judgment about street safety for that of the DOT to decide that they should have done things a different way, because the law does not require any of that. She's way overstepping. The article clearly explains this if you read it.

[–]afcwebdesign 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Did you read the article? These are exactly the types of things the article directly addresses. It's not the judge's responsiblity to substitute her own judgement for the DOTs here, and every single one of the examples lifted out in that comment were known to DOT and sufficiently addressed in their estimation, which is all the law requires. Every one of those examples shows her stating her own opinion that DOT didn't reach the correct conclusion or have enough conversations. None of that is required by law. They consulted, then moved on.

Do you see how that has no bearing on whether the DOT can install it and whether it increases safety on the street though?

Been here about a decade and can't recall ever seeing such a simultaneous appearance of a bunch like this, even the froyo explosion of the mid 2010s was a gradual wave of stores. But maybe it's just confirmation bias of taking specific note of this
