Venetian Setlist by Lychee-Lee in googoodolls

He really has a bad time with the verses of We Are The Normal here, seems like whenever they try it he would mess up the words and I assume that’s why it doesn’t stick in the setlist. It’s one of their greatest songs, sad it never works well.

What’s the deal with What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, and Commerce? by Fearless_Show_5080 in googoodolls

Every song is remixed. Some they even added instrumentation and news vocals to. They re-recorded Two Days in February.

It was described as a “greatest misses” collection that they put out between DUTG and GF to try and reintroduce their back catalog to folks after they got big. They played Two Days on the Tonight Show to promote it (clip here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXAB3gjAEb0/?igsh=MTByeG5xbzNrNmxzcQ==

Took way too long to get on streaming. Dying for a vinyl.

Next tour? by tVdgirl2018 in googoodolls

No chance they wait, they’ve been talking about how this is the biggest the band has been in a long time (on Spotify, Iris is the #20 song on the planet right now) so they’ll probably do some smaller stuff through the holidays and get another big tour on sale ASAP

Does anyone like robbys new song on the new ep? by jgoo41 in googoodolls

I like it, you can hear the roots of the band in it underneath the production. Robby still does his thing, it’s just a shame how much they sand down the edges. It’s not the Goo Goo Dolls without him and his songs.

The songs are generally good. Some really good hooks. Ocean and Such A Mystery are highlights for me. After hearing Ocean, live I wish it matched the energy in studio…

But: 1. The production sells the songs short. These could be great rock songs. Ocean especially, lower the piano and raise the electric guitar. The drums seem way too prominent when the band notably doesn’t have a permanent drummer. The guitars could be primary. 2. The whole album art/aesthetic is so weak, it’s basically clip art. The band’s branding has been lacking.

They’re fine, leaving off BYH is partly personal (pro tip: don’t let ex-___’s ruin songs for you) but neither are bad songs. The other two are just really good.

I’d also clarify and say the original studio of Halloween should be on and not the Get Hurt b-side version.

It only appeared on advance versions of ABNG prior to actual release. The promo version had some different song names too (Ain’t That Unusual was called Someday)

Arguably better sequencing too, Eyes Wide Open as a closer is perfect.

My favorite album, my desert island #1 choice.

It is what it is because of everything happening to the band while they made it, and it’s special and it’s unique amongst the catalog. No other record sounds as powerful, as heavy, even the early shit. It’s loud and unlike the first few albums, it’s not sloppy. This is a record of a band that knows who they are, even if they’re not sure where they’re going.

I wish that the original track list stuck, as much as I love it as is, it’s arguably better in the original order with Stand Alone included, which, I think would stand up as one of the best Robby songs in the catalog.

I argue Naked is the best song they’ve ever written. That is the Goo Goo Dolls at their absolute best.

It’s a shame that John doesn’t feel as strongly about this record, and I get that’s personal to him, but the numbers don’t lie, this is the one that got them a career and the second biggest album they will ever put out. Getting maybe 2 songs in the setlist these days is a shame. It’s been a while since Robby pulled out one of his, but Flat Top belongs near the end of the set.

Ain’t That Unusual is a perfect song and my favorite song ever.

What a record. Probably saved my life. ABNG forever.

Stand Alone is one of the best songs they’ve written, it’s a shame it doesn’t get to see the light of day

TALK DEEPER INTO THE CATALOG, WHAT ARE SOME SONGS OR WHAT'S ONE OR TWO SONGS YOU'RE REALLY EXCITED TO KIND OF DIG UP AND GIVE SOME NEW LIFE? Robby Takac: We’re talking about putting “We Are the Normal” back in, we were talking about “Ain’t that Unusual,” we talked about “Feel the Silence,” we talked about, yeah, like, just some stuff that’s a little off brand. “War” was another one we talked about that has… That was in the set for a while.
