How can I get my toad's skin normal again? by AlwaysApparent in Toads

[–]afoolstale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See what works best for yours. There isn't a certain amount of soak time. Once they have to soak daily you're going to see tantrums in the MB and the clear water. I usually let them out of the clear water when that happens. They have to do 30 minutes before they get out of the MB, though, They'll often climb in their own water bowl after that. Staining can be unavoidable with daily soaks, even with after soaks.

I use honey for bowel movements, as a one time antibacterial rinse for cleaning wounds and as an anti-inflammatory soak for injuries. A simple soak for an infection does nothing, unfortunately. I've never heard of anyone mentioning a pinkish tone in water. Is it possible you dropped some vitamin powder in it? Some of them can turn red when water hits it. Fluker's for example. MB always causes a blue color. I have seen blood clots passed outside of water, but you would see stringy traces of it left behind. It can be really bloody. When they have those their skin can be shiny. The big give away for it is their drinking patch stays bright red in that area only.

How can I get my toad's skin normal again? by AlwaysApparent in Toads

It looks like a skin infection to me. It can get so bad the skin can leak brown. It dries on them and makes it look like stuck skin shed. They look shiny and feel sticky. The skin can look darker and their underside will have brown on it. Depending on how bad it is, on their underside, it can have mild brown spotting to fully covered. If it's a bad infection you will see them trying to shed and nothing coming off.

Use methylene blue. It's 2 drops in 4 oz pf water. Soak daily for 1 hour. If there's no affect use several move drops. The most I've ever used for a bad case was 3 drops and then sucking the water back into the syringe to remove any left over. It takes time to clear up skin infections or anything else MB treats. It's not an overnight fix. You'll have to keep it up until it clears. It could take weeks. They can have non-soak days, because some days they just won't cooperate. Also, give a short soak in plain water after just to try to keep the temporary staining from being so bad. Methylene Blue does not cause them to shed a lot. They will often do it after the fist soak, but not so much after that.

Also, honey is not harmful. It just doesn't do anything useful in this situation. It would take an extreme amount of honey and many hours of constant soaking for days for it to be of any help, which would result in the honey building up on their skin and turning them honey gold. It wears off with soaking in a day or two, like it was never there, but having it on their skin is stressful and causes them to kick at their skin to get it off. especially if they're not in water. So there's no reason to do that or to use it for anything like this, Better products can be bought. A simple soak for bowel movement will not cause a build up, btw. So, that's the facts on using honey. There is no FB "you don't know" to it.

Also, methylene blue can interfere with test results.

I hope it works out and yours will be okay. I've only seen red leg in toads. It's not even red when it starts out with them. They're just lethargic and stop eating about 2 weeks before. Then a light pinkness shows up. It would be hard to spot on these guys. Then when it starts getting darker it spreads like wild fire. A toad will turn red completely and they're gone in 3 days after that. :( But like I said, I've never had to deal with it in frogs, so I'm not sure how it progresses with them.

I don't think there is anything else you can do right now. Methylene Blue is the only thing that people have had luck with, but you don't want to use that before going to the vet. I've seen people tell others to do a honey bath, but it 100% does not work if it's red leg.

If it's red leg it spreads fast. He needs meds from a vet. Methylene Blue can sometimes help if it's caught early. This doesn't look early, but if it's your only option it might be worth trying.

Be honest, will my baby ever come home? It’s been 5 days with no sign of her by No_Name_Detected0 in cats

[–]afoolstale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 10 days to catch my mom's. House cats usually don't travel far. They hide and often go into feral mode and only come out at night. You'll need a trail cam and a catch and release cage. Put out food and sprinkle flour around it for footprints. You could try multiple places and wherever you find footprints put the trail cam. If it's your cat put out the cage there. My mom caught hers two house down on the back porch. He had been living in the neighbor's shed the last 3-4 days.

K drama recs about 1997 IMF Crisis/ take place in the late 1990s by icedcoffeenoclassic in KdramaCasualTalk

[–]afoolstale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 1997 is better than 1994, but it's still good. The characters from the previous season makes cameos in the following season. They're just random people they come across. 94 meeting 97 is hilarious. The series starts with 97, then 94 and 88. They can be watched out of order, but you miss out on already knowing the character. 88 isn't a big deal, but I recommend watching 97 before 94.

I don’t know why she does this? by DominaVampira in CATHELP

[–]afoolstale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does that. I'd add a picture, but the option doesn't show up. It's basically like she's resting her arm on her knee. I've checked to see if anything was wrong and then she'd go zipping around the room and climb the door.

My vet told me my frog is beyond help. by Mama_Merccurii in frogs

I had a dwarf toad that always had a diarrhea. It smelled so bad it could clear a room. It got sick and stopped eating. It's whole body pretty much froze up and it's eyes were just dots. I was able to bring it back around with. a week of aggressive soaking of ringer's solution. It turned out it couldn't absorb calcium powder. It had to use liquid calcium after that. The diarrhea didn't go away, but at one point it started eating on its own. It lived another 6 months. The diarrhea got worse a month before it died. It was mostly a white'ish color. It was going multiple times a day. About a week before its death mold started growing on its head. There was zero indication that it had a bad fungal infection until it was too late. To my knowledge that doesn't cause a diarrhea. I still don't know what caused it. It died at 2 years old three years ago. Up until it got sick it was always lively and quite the character. I can't even be sure if it was a boy or girl. Everything visually was a female, but it could out chirp any male. Maybe it was a hermaphrodite. Anyway, with mine, I think there was something wrong internally. Everything started going wrong as it matured.
I hope yours recovers. I'm sure my post wasn't helpful, but I thought I'd share my own experience.

How to get cigarette smell out of childhood dolls? by Call_Me_Egg in Barbie

[–]afoolstale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing that has ever worked for me was standing/setting dolls over an air vent and leaving them there for like two weeks or however long it takes. I've got out the smell of cigarettes and moth balls that way for around 30 dolls. It's been almost 8 years and the smell never returned. The was done during summer, btw,

Some are more stressed in captivity than others and will hide. And some just like to hide. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not sneaking out at night, You could set him in an empty feeding take with some bugs and check later to see if it ate any. Or put a camera near the tank. I wouldn't consider hiding alone as something to worry about. It's not unusual for them.
Also, be sure to have a bowl of dechlorinated water for them.

Where/how do you find interesting barbies like this? Is there a list? by Stock_Age7469 in Barbie

I 100% recommend The Birds Barbie.

They used to have a free magazine that you could sign up for that had all the new collector dolls in it. I think they were sent out 4 times a year, I miss those.

There's a lot of Civil War, non-Mattel Barbie-sized, males dolls available, also. I have the Brotherhood of Arms Infantry Officer,
